  1. The team's payroll rank for those 3 years was 9th, 14th, and 19th, for an easy to calculate average of 14th. That equates to a ~125-130 million payroll in 2021, the White Sox, Twins, and Braves are all right there if you want a mental image. This is the crux of what I'm getting at, I'm not even saying the ideology is 100% wrong but when you actually put specifics to it you don't have to write off the immediate future the way the team did in 2012. Things might be much worse than they ought to be(and also might not, see my post above), but that doesn't mean catastrophic things for the next 3 years. I almost said a low midmarket team but small market team sounded cooler and didnt think anyone would call me out on it. :D I just can't remember ever seeing a bad team become a good team in 2 years with ~80% of the team being acquired during the interim. Yes teams often bring up prospects, but how many current prospects do you see being a part of the 2023 team? What does the Cubs projected payroll look like after arb raises? $60m? I just can't see Jed spending $65-70m this offseason to get the payroll up to that $125-$130 level. Maybe I'm wrong, as that could be like 3-4 players these days. I don't know about 80%, but I'm reminded of this 538 article. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-2016-cubs-won-just-like-the-1997-marlins-did/
  2. My assumption is we're in for another true tank. If reality is somehow immediately going hard to compete again in 2022, I could actually live with the occassional mid-year tank sell off every 4-5 years. Kimbrell and Chaffin were the only non-rentals they sold off right? If it's a one year tank... Lame. If it's a multi year tank, im done with em.
  3. I mean even if Lance ends up being awesome it will be hilarious how much they gave up to do it when they could have stood pat and probably ended up with one of the two. Or traded up much less.
  4. I'm still in awe that MY team more or less fell as backwards into a talent like Fields and it didn't involve some horrific tank job, but just general NFL incompetence and having the right trigger happy NFL GM at the helm to be aggressive for it.
  5. Honestly I think Turners was cooler, if I'm trying to put my obvious Javy Baez aside. Javy still wins the all around cool competition though.
  6. Did we? I feel like most still recognized that TB was a trash pass D that year. Like it was promising because shredding trash Ds is what good QBs do, but it was still obvious Mitch played way down to good competition too.
  7. Jay Cutler has Twitter now, and it's, well.... He was more fun as a memeable don't care QB.
  8. Sorry you cant dumb down star talent like Fields. It was a big concern with Trubisky, but Fields is not Trubisky. Not worried.
  9. If one were so inclined to engage, which would be dumb, we're at least adding Puerto Ricos one gold to the US's count. But also it would be really dumb to get into said possing match. But just saying. Why stop there? Why not add Canada? Eh, I guess it depends on what angle we're taking. I was originally thinking more colonialist for USA, so see if Phillipines or Cuba or other former territories should count, but my sophomoric world history also probably recognizes the analogy broke down long ago. But we're definitely counting the Puerto Rico gold.

  11. Solution: make the NBA more like a normal labor market. The highest level players can negotiate contracts with expensive buyouts to tamper down too much team building, but otherwise just let the players dictate the league movements, even leaving existing contracts. Its probably what the fans want anyway.
  12. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/31974570/kevin-durant-plans-4-year-198m-extension-brooklyn-nets-manager-says KD 2027
  13. I was just hoping for a 2nd round pick back. Anything else is kind of gravy, although I guess the amount and length of $ heading back will make a difference. As stated before they can't really take back long term commitments and stay under the tax (unless White gets moved for expiring or future assets)
  14. He's an RFA so we should still be able to trade him for something, no? 1. If there's any team with cap space left, the Bulls don't really have leverage for a S&T 2. The Bulls do have the leverage of matching an offer, but really depends on where they see his value, and if they have him on a multi year deal they are into tax territory next year when they resign LaVine. Some rumors that CHA is still interested, even after agreeing with Oubre, who used up most of their cap space. At this point there really isn't a scenario where Lauir gets more than MLE money without a S&T - I think only OKC can offer more. But at a certain point, maybe Lauri signs the QO and reenters FA next year unrestricted. But that's a tough sell. His role would shrink in 2022, so I don't know if losing the RFA tag makes up for it.
  15. Doug Pederson on bears staff now?
  16. I suppose I should update from 3.1.7 one of these days. 3.3.4 is the current version. God knows how many I've skipped over the past, I don't know, 10 years or so. Based on another PhpBB board I frequent that recently upgraded, and it's nice...
  17. Depending on the size of an offer, I think he can bluff his way to a 2nd rounder. It's something at least, they've given up a bunch of picks this week. Also, I'm sure this isn't the I first talk they've had. They still need to complete the Lonzo S&T. I think they could possibly just get a TPE from it as well.
  18. Was at a wedding in Milwaukee last weekend and the drunk FOB Packer fan trying to get a rise out of me wasn't even remotely successful. Enjoy your last season of Aaron, suckers, the Fields era is coming.
  19. Shoot it directly into my veins baby.
  20. I've hardly watched any Olympics l, but damn it sounds like Lavine is having a great Olympic showing. Most the articles I read going in questioned if he'd even have a minor role. https://www.nba.com/bulls/news/lavine-soars-team-usa-advances-gold-medal-game Just start the KD 2023 rumors now.
  21. Cool, depth.
  22. Yep. If we wanna get lazy with the comps, AK looks like he may be more like a Riley. Just constantly in the picture, always moving. I know a lot of fans still want "the Process" type building, but I'm okay with the opposite. Obviously could fail, but so could "the Process."
  23. I think the Lavine extension has sailed, unless Lavine is prepared to give up a ton of money to lock in now. Hell technically reach FA, but Bulls will still be able to offer the biggest max deal and I'm sure they will. I was reading that even with this move they can still get one done this offseason. I have completely lost track of how the CBA works so I cant do the math myself. Who knows. It's certainly way more confusing than it used to be. Either way, I'm not too worried about extension or him technically reaching FA as long as Bulls can offer the biggest max in 2022.
  24. I cant see him signing here. If they did sign him it would make it really really difficult to extend Lavine, and definitely unable to extend Lavine before he becomes an UFA I think the Lavine extension has sailed, unless Lavine is prepared to give up a ton of money to lock in now. Hell technically reach FA, but Bulls will still be able to offer the biggest max deal and I'm sure they will.
