Also important, IMO, not letting Herbert cloud judgment out of jealously for how quick he's doing it all. Lots of great QBs came along slowly as rookies. Fields doesn't have to be Herbert to be a franchise game changer.

No, I don't think you sound dumb, I just think that Fields is gonna throw the ball down field really well if he has time and the best way to get there is probably extra blockers which is gonna work out for both big passes and running, and teams aren't probably going to stack the box to stop the run and risk Fields burning them deep. Also if this D keeps playing bend don't break we may just have less drives. It all kind of seemingly adds up to low passing attempts to me. But it is probably their best chance at winning football.

I also get that this is a particularly meatbally fanbase whose first instinct is to cheer for 3 yards and a cloud of dust. But this team can run. And to be a run first team in today's game I think you need multiple guys who can do it (or Derrick Henry) , and they actually do!

I don't know, teams are averaging like 4.5/carry against the Pack and it's clearly this team's strength too. Hopefully they find some more downfield shots, but this is probably going to be a low pass attempt team at its best this year and I'm actually okay with that. I think the D is capable of holding the Pack to a few scores. I just feel like eventually we’re going to be in situations where we can’t play this kind of football and expect to win. This isnt 1998. Plus ultimately I just want to develop fields this year, not give him the 2005 Kyle Orton game plan. I know this is an outlier but look at Herbert coming in and averaging 300 yards per game. Our circumstances are a bit different but playing as conservative as we were today bothers me. Let Fields throw, he’ll make some mistakes but whatever, he’ll learn from them and ultimately both Fields and the Bears will be better for it. Yea they were too conservative today. But they aren't going to dink and dunk their way to 300 pass yards successfully either. And if the run game is picking up big chunks they just aren't going to get a ton of throws. So just hopefully they are using a big chunk of those throws on big plays. If they pass 300 yards a game it's because they fell behind early. That's just who they are this year.

You had me in the first half, I’m not gonna lie Oh sure he was 48 years old you say. But we have to understand people where there are in their life experience. Back in 2011 Gruden had only spent *checks notes* 19 years as a coach and commentator in a sports league that is *rechecks notes* 68% black.

Technically, they traded Elton Brand for Chandler and picked Curry... so they never really had a chance at Gasol, since the Clippers owned the 2nd pick. And from what I read in "Boys Among Men" by Jonathan Abrams (about the prep to pro generation) Krause only made the deal for Chandler after Gasol was picked at 3 and he knew he could pair Chandler and Curry Eh, I guess he chose the combo, but obviously if he wanted Gasol he could have done the deal direct with LA for Brand. I guess he was worried that Chandler would go 3 and he couldn't pair Gasol and Curry? Well benefit of hindsight it's not like Chandler would have paired with Gasol and the next two picks were Batteir and Richardson. I'd take either. But hey that's hindsight. He swung for the fence. Curry ended up being lazy and overweight and Chandler's supposed offensive potential was wildly overrated.

Uh I was trying to think of a franchise that wasted good QB play. While I was predicting a decade of 8-9 finishes with a #6 seed sprinkled in now and then But then is his doom boner independent of Fields or is Fields just a continuation of the same doom boner. If they're the Fischer rams it's the latter.

Well maybe they just don't want to spend the extra cap to IR him lol Normally I wouldn't care, but my fantasy league has free replacements before waivers/free agency for guys on IR. I can have the first crack at Damien Williams if they place him on IR. I know, no one cares about my horsefeathering fantasy team. LOL. There's a separate thread to complain about your fantasy team no one cares about.

With the ability to call up PS guys to the active roster, they could take it week by week, I guess. Maybe there is some belief the 4 week time is worst case and he could be back after 2 weeks?

Side note, I hated Roy Wood Jr and didn't think he was funny for the longest time. But like as of a year ago or so, he's one of the funnier comedians to me now. He's a Cubs fan so he's cool.

5 man protection says otherwise One thing I noticed when looking at snap counts is that the Bears used an average of 1.7 TE per play last week (99/58) compared to 1.1 against the Browns (51/45). That could also just be the heavy emphasis on the run game last week, but I'd like to think the line held up better because we used Max protect more (and...its the Lions) Yea. Saw a good Twitter thread on how much Kmet made an impact blocking Sunday. Obviously we want him to be a receiver for how high of a pick he was, but they definitely adjusted personnel and scheme to give Fields time. Obviously not being Garrett/Clowney helps too.

I actually don't think thats the right mindset around which to determine how someone values 6th round picks. Once they're picked it's bad to give them an entitlement roster spot. But yea, in general I think we can say Pace doesn't value mid and late round picks. And he's willing to deal the 1st rounders for impact players too. He's just has a huge "get your guy" attitude. Even when it's a return specialist for 13 games for a middling team. *sigh*
