  1. Those are valid points against the Mets, I guess. I don't see how the loss of Glavine plays in if you're replacing him with Johan Santana. The Martinez concerns are legit. So are the Hernandez concerns, but he's their 5th starter. How does the rest of their rotation shake out? Maine and Perez. That's pretty solid. Their lineup is pretty impressive too. I dunno. We'll see.
  2. I wouldn't say that. Midway (the airport) isn't near as bad as it used to be, but I wouldn't exactly call the area "decent." I'd probably say that you'd have an easier time getting to Wrigleyville from the O'Hare area than Midway, too.
  3. Heh. Missed it on the last page. At first glance, looked like it was all Rex/Mendenhall talk.
  4. Looks like the Bears have signed Des Clark to a 2 year extension. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=4402 I don't mind Clark. He's been a solid since 2006. I do hope that Olsen will see more snaps next year, though.
  5. Wait, wait, wait. If you had to choose ONE stat that showed how good a player was at getting on base, you'd choose OBP?!? Wild stuff, man. :) I knew that sentence sounded really bad, but I just couldn't phrase it correctly. :D I usually phrase it the "not making outs" department.
  6. Don't drink and draft.
  7. He's just not a very good fantasy player. In real life, you take him out of PetCo, and you have something. In fantasy, with 5x5 stats and the fact that he's in PetCo for half his games, he pretty much sucks. I shouldn't talk. I took Geovany Soto in the 6th round last night.
  8. Seriously, the Bulls started the worst sports trend of all time.
  9. Hmm... Clayton's article on it states that Rex has been signed as the starting QB. Not that that should take anybody by surprise, but it does conflict a bit with the reports we had been hearing that he would be signed (almost word for word) to compete for the job with Orton. Doesn't matter to me much, as I'd rather see Grossman play than Orton anyway. While Grossman (despite his huge inconsistencies and clear flaws) has shown big flashes of his talent, I have never seen anything to get very excited about from Orton (except maybe that one drive in Detroit in 05 and the fact that he managed to out-manage Favre in the horrible conditions this year). Still, I was surprised, as it goes against what we've been hearing from the local outlets. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3260592 Could just be an issue of wording, though. Also... http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-5-514/Grossman-and-the-Bears.html
  10. DeRosa being out for any significant amount of time could seriously screw up Hendry's bargaining position on a potential Roberts deal. That aside, I just hope the guy is alright (as it appears he is).
  11. That sucks, but it sounds like he's ok.
  12. He's still under contract, what kind of pick do you think we could get for him? A 5th rounder maybe? I think they're going to cut him before his roster bonus kicks in on the first.
  13. Rex has re-signed to a one year deal. Guess he wants a fresh shot at that contract drive with a new & revamped o-line. We'll see if he has any receivers (other than TEs) to throw to. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=4400
  14. FWIW, I was drunk when I came home and made that pick (Geovany). Seemed like a great idea at the time.
  15. Huge reach but I can't chance it at this point... 6th Rnd 61. Garrett Atkins 62. Felix Hernandez 63. Aaron Rowand 64. Geovany Soto
  16. Not that I would advocate Pie for Roberts, but not if you then trade the other parts we've talked about trading for Roberts (Gallagher, Murton, et al.) for a good CF. Or just signed Lofton (is he still out there?), I guess.
  17. And, of course, one of them is firmly entrenched as a starter and the other is battling the organization's pride and joy prospect for an everyday spot.
  18. Fuld could probably learn to throw right handed in ST, and still have a better arm than Theriot's noodle. hahahaha no he can't, u moran, lulz
  19. You responded like this when I suggested that Lee might be better in LF than Bonds at this point. Are you really that bad at detecting sarcatic/tongue-in-cheek comments? Honestly, what's the point of that smart-ass reply? I could see it if someone was seriously suggesting something ridiculous like that, but it's clearly a joke.
  20. haha i just looked at the stats no-hitters and grand slams....roooooooooofl
  21. My thoughts exactly. I really don't get what people are dreading. Another month of what? Speculating? Just don't come in the thread if you don't want to speculate on it. Amirite?
  22. Yea, it's a negative, no doubt. If they want to be in an uproar about how Soriano already has nagging injuries in the second year of an insane 8 year contract, that's fine by me and makes a lot more sense. The steals thing, though (and not having that speed at the top of the order)? Just doesn't bother me all that much.
  23. Apparently, on top of (obviously) getting an offer he feels is financially fair, Berrian wants to hear if the Bears have retained Rex or not before he feels completely comfortable in deciding whether or not to stay. EDIT - Forgot the link. My bad. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/cs-080221-bernard-berrian-chicago-bears,1,7932166.story Also, heard on the Score earlier that the Bears were meeting with Grossman's agent today.
  24. This Soriano leg thing is being made into a bigger issue than it is. As long as he doesn't reinjure it, all this really means is that he won't be green lighted to steal a bunch of bases. Big friggin deal. The sports talk guys out here are making it out like it's this huge cloud that might be hanging over the Cubs. As long as there isn't a big risk of him hurting himself further, I'm not really concerned.
