I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance Soriano would be moved down if they ended up getting Roberts, and I think the odds are only that good because of Soriano's leg problems. If I had to bet, I'd still say that Roberts would bat second and Soriano leadoff. However, I'm reasonable enough to know that I can't make some sort of ridiculous guarantee as if I know for sure, because none of us know that. I also know that I won't lie about what Lou said just to make my point seem more valid. How did I speak for a moderator? All I did was remind you to what HE said. As for disagreeing with that I've said, then fine. The thing is, you never make counter arguments. That's the thing that separates Lou from Dusty: The ability to recognize something isn't working, and the willingness to change it. That's not necessarily a good thing. Of course it's good when he gives up on a bad idea after 2-3 games, but the fact of the matter is, 2-3 games isn't enough to determine anything, and if it was a bad idea, he shouldn't have done it in the first place. The same goes for the inverse. If he comes up with some brilliant idea and then gives up on it when it doesn't go well for the first couple games, it would be a bad thing. A - He should be able to recognize what a bad/good idea is B - Once he has determined that something is a good idea, he should stick with it What if Marmol has gotten rocked his first two outings out of the pen and then he had just gone away from him the rest of the year? I realize no manager is perfect (especially among those that are realistic candidates), and I'm fine with Lou for now. For the most part, he doesn't do any really stupid things like Dusty did, and that's all you can really ask of a manager. Don't screw it up. So, I'm not trying to be hyper-critical of Lou here. I like him. I'm just saying that if you decide to implement something and give up on it almost immediately after if it doesn't start out well, that's not a good thing.

It's possible because sacrifices count as PAs (which are used in calculating OBP) but not as ABs (which is used in calculating BA). So if a guy is 2 for 2 with a sac fly, his BA is 1.000. His OBP in that scenario would be .667. I think I'm right, but I could be wrong as I confused myself a couple times trying to explain this.

You can bet that (not that he had much chance anyway) Cuban would probably lose most, if not all, interest in buying the team if they part it out this way. I remember him mentioning last fall that he was waiting to see the details on what would be included in "the package."

my guess is they'll do something very similar to Soldier Field, wherein they retain the facade of the park and gut all the stands /clubhouses and start over As long as they keep the big things that make it Wrigley Field, I'm ok with it. Keep the scoreboard, the Ivy, the brick, the bullpens along the foul lines, and the Wrigleyville atmosphere. Don't give me any damn jumbotrons. Quite honestly any new ballpark would get rid of certain things. The Ivy is gone unless they can figure out away to grow it through padded walls. Same thing goes for the brick. Because they would have to build it to code. They don't necessarily have to rebuild the outfield wall or the bleachers (which were just rebuilt, anyway).

I think he was just making the point that wrigley is focusing too much on Roberts' ability to steal while overlooking the fact that Soriano's power will have him in scoring position too. Soriano hitting a double gets him on 2nd just like a hit or walk and a steal from Roberts does, and with less risk. As for speed, just about anyone short of maybe Geovany Soto should be scoring from first on a double pretty often.

I wouldn't have a big problem with it. You can bet that they'd do it tastefully (as they've done with all the upgrades to the park), and it would be in the same neighborhood, which is a big part of the whole Wrigley thing. I have no problem with a bunch of aging concrete being torn down and replaced.

Better than the Bears being in Champaign. They'd have to be a little creative with the scheduling to get 162+ games in one park.

i will simply say that i think you're overvaluing steals. Roberts getting a walk plus a steal = Soriano getting a double, only there is more risk in stealing the base. you also can't look at steals completely objectively between the two because it's possible that the O's manager called for them more than Lou. perhaps if Soriano was leading off for the O's he'd have 50 steals last year. you just can't make that comparison I'd think that with Roberts speed he would score from first on a Sori double in most cases. That is likely true. Seems completely random/irrelevant, though... :-k

BTW, just to further support Wrigley's point... Last 3 years Soriano .333 OBP Last 3 years Roberts .371 OBP 38 point difference. And that includes Soriano's career season in 06.

That's nice of you to protect Mr. Miles. By the way, has that site been around for a while? I haven't heard of it and I've been on here for a few months now. I found it last week when it was posted in the comments section of Roast's blog. I posted the link in Rants and all hell broke loose and the thread wound up being deleted.

Seriously, why do you keep saying Soriano's health is in question? Where do you find these things? He's not really wrong about that, although he is exaggerating the importance of it a bit. He also is right in that Lou has suggested he'll move him down in the order if the leg remains an issue.
