  1. I feel like this has happened before, like within the last 5 or 6 years. It's more like a week before, right? yesterday was the 20th and 12 days before the Cubs first game. The Cubs open a week from today
  2. I was very confused by the whole thing. None of the apps made note of it being a regular season game, its just next to all the spring training games. I get the reasoning and know this isn't that unique, but 2 weeks before everybody else starts is new, no? I feel like this has happened before, like within the last 5 or 6 years. It's more like a week before, right?
  3. this seems like a pointless risk by the white sox but it's automatic generational wealth for eloy no matter what he ends up like, so that's awesome for him
  4. said about even pennier pinchinger direct competition the mid-small market franchises claiming their billionaire owners can't afford a damn thing are arguably worse
  5. [tweet] [/tweet] What’s he gonna say? “The Cubs and Tom Ricketts are trash and I’d rather light myself on fire than play for this manipulative, lying, morally bankrupt ownership, and by extension, organization” "i'm not going to talk about an extension"
  6. With English that good, I'm shocked he ever uses a translator. I spoke Spanish before I spoke English and I still speak it exclusively with my mother and that generation of my family...Despite being fluent, I'm still incredibly self conscious when I speak it to other native speakers, so I totally get why he'd want an interpreter in a professional and public setting where the whole world is going to be judging whatever he says. That said, props to him for going without one. He speaks much better than I would've guessed. I wonder if he was taught in school growing up.
  7. he was a decent pitcher for the dodgers in the mid 90s but he kinda sucked by the time the cubs got him...and yeah, blisters. Ah, yes, that rings a bell now. I think I've voided all but Sammy, Kerry, and Brant Brown's dropped fly ball from that era of the Cubs out of my brain. Or I drank too much in college. [tweet] [/tweet]

  9. it comes down to the fact that analytics naturally (and logically) favor a process driven approach. they value those draft picks extremely highly, even with the inherent risk of missing on them built in to that value. whatever process they used to come to that conclusion obviously saw the two picks as more valuable than mack and the opportunity cost lost when tying up the salary cap space. the trade, in this case, is being judged by what was known at the time it was made and what the range of likely outcomes were. the outcome (and all that we already know about it) isn't relevant in their evaluation. in the real world, due to a ton of external variables that aren't necessarily properly accounted for, though, it's not always as simple as saying do what the math says. the real world isn't a poker game with easily defined probabilities on everything. and, either way, knowing what we know now, an entire season and several months later, who cares? both things can be true.
  10. in reality, tho, i've been dying to share that story with someone who would appreciate it since last night when they started playing that song i got way too excited and was like "ITS THE DUDES FROM MVP BASEBALL!!!" and i got looked at like a moron
  11. was it that transparent?
  12. I have...SO many questions. it's not that great of a story. i was at a bar next door with my gf and we saw they were there and she wanted to go so we went. they were playing a small venue (no surprise there)...joe's
  13. so i ended up at a plain white t's show in rosemont last night out of nowhere and then i saw the band that did this song from mvp baseball
  14. I'd rather do the automatic baserunners thing that everyone just arbitrarily hates off hand than have horsefeathering ties. Watching a game for hours and having no winner and loser is so horsefeathering unsatisfying.
  15. who the hell is tony barnette
  16. [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. I've seen in a couple of places (Twitter and another board) some rumblings that they may still bring Callahan back and use Skrine in some sort of supersub role.

  19. there are 5 teams in baseball with higher totals, and 4 of them are in an american league that is half filled with dumpster fire teams that will roll over for their opposition
  20. 89.5 sounds bad?
  21. Except the Dodgers. And Washington is the same as us. NL centreal centrapoline!
