  2. it comes down to the fact that analytics naturally (and logically) favor a process driven approach. they value those draft picks extremely highly, even with the inherent risk of missing on them built in to that value. whatever process they used to come to that conclusion obviously saw the two picks as more valuable than mack and the opportunity cost lost when tying up the salary cap space. the trade, in this case, is being judged by what was known at the time it was made and what the range of likely outcomes were. the outcome (and all that we already know about it) isn't relevant in their evaluation. in the real world, due to a ton of external variables that aren't necessarily properly accounted for, though, it's not always as simple as saying do what the math says. the real world isn't a poker game with easily defined probabilities on everything. and, either way, knowing what we know now, an entire season and several months later, who cares? both things can be true.
  3. in reality, tho, i've been dying to share that story with someone who would appreciate it since last night when they started playing that song i got way too excited and was like "ITS THE DUDES FROM MVP BASEBALL!!!" and i got looked at like a moron
  4. was it that transparent?
  5. I have...SO many questions. it's not that great of a story. i was at a bar next door with my gf and we saw they were there and she wanted to go so we went. they were playing a small venue (no surprise there)...joe's
  6. so i ended up at a plain white t's show in rosemont last night out of nowhere and then i saw the band that did this song from mvp baseball
  7. I'd rather do the automatic baserunners thing that everyone just arbitrarily hates off hand than have horsefeathering ties. Watching a game for hours and having no winner and loser is so horsefeathering unsatisfying.
  8. who the hell is tony barnette

  10. I've seen in a couple of places (Twitter and another board) some rumblings that they may still bring Callahan back and use Skrine in some sort of supersub role.

  12. there are 5 teams in baseball with higher totals, and 4 of them are in an american league that is half filled with dumpster fire teams that will roll over for their opposition
  13. 89.5 sounds bad?
  14. Except the Dodgers. And Washington is the same as us. NL centreal centrapoline!

  16. Yeah, that's a steal. Guys are now taking less to go to the Bears. Pretty cool.

  18. As far as Bell goes, I was of the belief that it's stupid to spend big money on a 27 year old running back who hasn't played in well over a year (and wasn't necessarily a fit for the type of running the Bears like to do - but that was a far lesser con for me bc whatever you just figure it out) when RBs are very replaceable and the Bears are so good at drafting in the mid rounds, so I'm more than fine with it. It would've definitely been fun from a big signing glitz angle, though (and, you know, adding a very good player).

  20. yeah, it might be irrational, but when i thnk of shifts all taht comes to mind is the frustration of watching schwarber and rizzo launch rockets right into outs
  21. [tweet] [/tweet] just draft someone
  22. don't know what you're talking about
  23. apologies if this has already been posted... i hadn't noticed it since the cubs first put it up
