  1. Maybe, but I doubt he winds up having to settle for one year, anyway. I'm sure some team is going to offer (maybe they already have) something in the vicinity of what he wants. I don't think this would've turned out the way it did after their meeting unless Wood had a pretty good idea from talking to teams that he can do a quite a bit better than we're willing to do.
  2. No way do I think that's a good deal to make. Short term or not.
  3. Gregg is fine as a closer. And salary wise, he's pretty cheap. He's probably a better option than Dempster was and the closer role is overrated anyway. Hopefully, we won't have that many save opportunities anyway next year just like this year. We can argue till the cows come home as to whether or not Ceda really had much more value than this. I'm guessing that he could've gotten us a LITTLE more, but I am doubtful that it was much more. The argument about what kind of pitcher Gregg is and how he can contribute to our team should be a separate one, though, IMO. I just hope Marmol is kept in the setup role and Gregg closes.
  4. Oh... I also have a Rex Grossman jersey. a Jordan 45 from when I was in 6th grade a Grant Hill 96 olympics jersey and, the only one besides Rose and maybe Harden (debatable) not loaded with bad karma, a Rodman 91 black jersey. Oh, I also have a Sosa home authentic.
  5. Because being upset over what was given up to acquire him (with reason or not) doesn't justify totally undervaluing him and pretending that he's horrible?
  6. I thought it was 100% certain that he wouldn't sign for less than huge dollars over a long term deal. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I'm guessing something like this is close to being the case, given the fact that Hendry and Wood met last night. I was being slightly sarcastic. Everyone's taking that as sacrosanct. How do we know it wasn't just Wood trying to open the negotiations? How do we know what the final number/years would have wound up as? I'm pretty sure Hendry knows this and I'm guessing Wood probably stood firm. They wouldn't just do this for no reason. People are letting their emotional attachment to Wood cloud their judgment...big money to a reliever, especially one with Wood's history, isn't a good idea. Hell, big money to a reliever is basically never a good idea.... What amazes me even more are those that are somehow attempting to justify a potential bad contract for Wood by pointing to the other bad contracts we've handed out. Yay let's keep making more mistakes because we've made others in the past and what does it matter if we make more!
  7. Sell the Harden one plz. I have a Derrick Rose one too.
  8. On the bright side, he managed to survive doing that with a horrible defense behind him, and he's moving to a good one. On the negative side, everything else. His K numbers are like Howry. And he's coming to Chicago. You know, to pitch like Howry. Yea, no... And why are we only looking at 2008 numbers?
  9. I thought it was 100% certain that he wouldn't sign for less than huge dollars over a long term deal. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I'm guessing something like this is close to being the case, given the fact that Hendry and Wood met last night.
  10. Shirtzees I own - Patterson, Wood (x2), Nomar, Harden
  11. Are people seriously trying to argue that since we have given out bad contracts in the past, we should continue to do the same with Wood? WTF? If he really wanted this long term deal, it was 100% the right move to let him walk.
  12. Even if Gregg is kept he wouldn't be the closer. I see Gregg replacing Howry on the roster. And who replaces Wood? That the million dollar question, isn't it? Not in my mind, it isn't. Because I don't see Gregg as a replacement for Howry.
  13. Even if Gregg is kept he wouldn't be the closer. I see Gregg replacing Howry on the roster. And who replaces Wood?
  14. Yea, I was gonna say.... Wittenmeyer is pretty terrible.
  15. I wish Raisin had posted a little while earlier. :x
  16. He got you with that Zima, eHarmony, and chubby girls line.
  17. Why would he approve a trade to a bad team when he could easily force his way onto a contender? He knows very well that SD ownership is in disarray right now and is in the midst of a firesale. I don't really buy the close to home stuff.
  18. I really think he has no desire to go to Atlanta and won't actually approve a trade there. I guess we'll see.
  19. Our biggest hope is what I've been suspecting for a little while now, that Peavy wants to come here and has no desire to go to Atlanta at all. We'll see.
  20. He posted last night and the night before. And pretty late, just like dexter said.
  21. They had Rogers and Mazur talking about it on the Murph show today, but I haven't heard much else on the Score. Boers, who is a huge Peavy fan (they like to interview him when the Pads are in town and such), seemed to think that the rumors were a joke a few weeks ago and that the Cubs had no chance of getting him, so I'm guessing that is part of the reason you don't hear much talk of it on that show.
  22. The postseason has absolutely nothing to do with the voting.
  23. I guess. I just hate that others will run the wrong direction with something like this and be like "omgz could the Cubs be going after Sheets?" just because some writer said that they could wind up among a group of teams who COULD need to sign a starting pitcher. It happens all the time....huge pet peeve of mine with this kind of stuff. Think Phil Rogers or Sam Smith speculating that the Cubs or Bulls could or should be after someone (based on no actual information) and then the major outlets running with it as "Bulls after 'x player'?"
