  1. and apparently Duhon stopped doing that cause he's Kicking-A now By relative standards, I guess. He's playing for Mike D'Antoni.
  2. I've heard some talk that Deng is from the Chris Duhon school of partying and gets smashed (sloppy) even the nights before games.
  3. It's not a bad thing, but depending on the lineup he's in (and I'm opening a big can of worms here - and this somewhat goes against what I usually would argue because Dunn is such an extreme case), it's not all that great of a thing either if he has, say, Jeff Keppinger or Paul Bako, coming up behind him. It kinda blows to have a guy of Dunn's caliber taking a walk in that situation. I'd almost rather he swing at balls he otherwise would consider borderline, there. Who knows if that's not what he's already doing, though. It very well could be. In a lineup like ours, though, I feel like he'd be a great fit (offensively, at least). When you have solid hitters throughout, walks are an awesome, awesome thing, and a hitter like Dunn fits better in that type of lineup than anywhere else, IMO. By the way, I somehow totally managed to misread what US said as runners on with two outs (not man on 3rd/less than 2 out). Makes my case make even less sense. Sweet.
  4. Don't want him to shorten his swing. I want him to swing the hell out of the bat, even on two strikes, at balls he thinks are balls but might be strikes in THOSE particular situations. Like I said, he might be doing that already. If he is, then I don't really have a point. I would hope he is. And like you said, that argument is more of a knock on the lineup around him than it is on him, but I think it's a reality that comes with the type of hitter he is.
  5. I feel like what I said there is beyond too obvious so I hope what I was saying makes some sort of sense.

  7. Is that really news, though? I think most of us knew that no matter what they said, this wasn't entirely over with. Hell, Bruce confirmed as much immediately after the deal was declared dead.
  8. Nothing in sports pisses me off more than bad officiating. I can take poor play. I can even take dumb play. I can't stand when the incompetence of officials changes the outcome of a game.
  9. Wow, that might be the worst foul call I've ever seen in my life. Rose didn't even come close to touching him.
  10. Not Rose's night at all... nice phantom call though
  11. Furcal signing with the Braves is bad, bad news on the Peavy front, unless Peavy really, really has no desire to go there.
  12. Seriously? Turning prospects into Lee, Ramirez, Harden, etc. has been a problem? I think he meant that the "assuming it's done smartly" part is Hendry's burden to carry.
  13. Gordon's shooting is just insane sometimes.
  14. I wish I could throw 92mph with my left arm...
  15. LOL Kinda funny how that one never materialized, or even close to it. I wonder if Theriots name was ever mentioned in trade talks. Good thing the Cubs didn't make that trade. Theriot is the 2nd or 3rd best SS in the league and can play multiple positions. haha
  16. I agree. Although it can be almost impossible to quantify the number of runs saved by a good defensive player, it should be considered when evaluating the overall impact brought to the team (as TT has done). IMO guys like Dunn and Alou are/were so HORRENDOUS in the field that it negated much of the impact they brought at the plate. I estimate that Alou was good for -5 runs just in persistant stupidity in overthrowing the cutoff man and allowing runners to advance. That's also probably quite generous (to Alou). Defense is overrated in baseball by many, especially in the the corner outfield positions. A guy like Soriano gets a lot of assists because he's a bad defender. A guy like Dunn looks stupid sometimes, but most of the time his error has no game impact whatsoever. A CFer or SS that can't handle his position is another matter though. However, those guys get moved from CF and SS. I'll take Dunn and his errors and you can have most anyone else. Defense was considered so overrated that it's underrated now. It's like Derek Jeter.
  17. No, thats not really what you said at all. He's just being a smartass.... why argue?
  18. If you're in the playoffs, you're equipped to win it all. I'm not whatsoever arguing that the Cubs shouldn't be trying to improve. But I'm tired of seeing this argument made. The Cubs were the best team in the NL (and one of the 2 or 3 best in baseball) and got swept out of the first round. If you're in it, you can win it all. How good you actually are doesn't even matter that much. Again, allow me to stress that I'm not arguing that the Cubs shouldn't be improving. They should always look to improve and being the best team in the playoffs certainly gives you the best chance, albeit not by all that much.
  19. Towers has little to no leverage. People really need to stop acting like Hendry should've just taken his take it or leave it offer. Towers is in no position to back up any take it or leave it garbage. Saying the talks are over is a bluff, pure and simple.
  20. #-o lol so basically it's like... if two of our 3 best starters suck and/or get hurt, our rotation is questionable. cool..
  21. Not to mention the fact that the team is the one dead set on moving him. Not vice-versa. Peavy has no reason to cater to their needs when they're the ones who are turning things around on him. Peavy isn't demanding a trade. Ownership is demanding Peavy be traded. He should milk the situation in every way possible because he never came out and said that he wanted to leave in the first place.
  22. he's under contract. his "loyalty" is in honoring his commitment to the team. And he knows they have to move him. If they don't, he can keep pitching for them and not uproot himself.
  23. Thing is, if Peavy really wants to just come here and nowhere else, who is stopping him from completely playing hardball. What loyalty does he have to the Padres in this? He knows they have to move him. He knows the team sucks. He can tell them to screw off and only move him here if he wants. He doesn't have to help them in getting a better package. That's if Peavy really only wants to come here.
