  1. What the hell just happened
  2. Let me just say that I worry about this game, given the health of our secondary and the way the GB offense has performed in the preseason (granted, it's preseason - but they're hot). While I feel pretty comfortable with a Bowman and Peanut combo at CB, neither has played much or at all in the preseason and Peanut might not even be available for the game. Hopefully, GB doesn't shred our secondary too bad and we can score enough points to win.
  3. FINALLY Let's do this....
  4. I think Aromashodu was the 3rd most locked in (if you didn't take into account the draft picks being completely pretty much a lock). I think that's why you didn't see much of him and why you saw him playing with the starters the last two games. Cutler seems to have more than a slight preference for him. Rideau looks like the odd man out, but if anyone didn't make it in favor of him, I would have to think it was Davis, unless they really get crazy and cut Iglesias, but I can't remotely see that happening.
  5. Unless the league wants to foot the bill, I don't see why he should have to. The NFL told him the minimum height and he put it (I believe - don't quote me on the exact height) 10 feet higher than that. Jones is totally justified in his response.
  6. Haven't noticed him, which IMO means he's looking great.
  7. So only the last 5 teams on the schedule were able to be successful with the adjustment? Something much better defenses and more celebrated coaches weren't able to do just 1-3 weeks prior? Come on, he broke down physically. He had a torn biceps which you want to eliminate from the equation for some reason. All I'm saying is that those teams could have implemented whatever adjustments needed and that doesn't mean they would be guaranteed to work in practice. Balls could have wound up in good spots, borderline tossup plays could have gone the Jets' way, etc. The fact that he had success at times during that stretch doesn't debunk the theory, to the same extent that it does not debunk the theory that he was hurt and that that was causing him to play poorly.
  8. I'm probably going to pick up the almanac... The PDF is only 12 bucks.
  9. Yea, that's the best thing I've read on football in a long time. I actually felt like I learned a lot about the game, which I can't say for much of anything I generally read about football.
  10. Nobody loved that Football Outsiders piece as much as I did?
  11. I'm pretty sure that's how it's gonna shake out. Not sure you meant anything by the order, but I'm pretty sure Aromashodu will be #3... the rest, I don't know. Davis is probably #4 and Iglesias/Knox is a wash at this point. Neither is quite ready.
  12. Give him a chance to run in a few regular season games. That said, it can be difficult to put up impressive y/c numbers in spot duty. It can also be very easy to, as well. Incredibly fluky. But I agree and have noticed that he hasn't been finding the holes in the preseason.
  13. Peterson is more of a special teams contributor than Wolfe, and neither of those two is a better backup RB option than Jones. If one has to go, it's Wolfe who has done nothing in the NFL so far. I understand wanting to keep more WR in the hopes of having one develop with Cutler. I think Jay is going to turn one of these guys into a legit threat. I'm thinking it will be DA... he has the best speed of the nobodies and has good size and seems to be pretty lanky. If he can figure out his responsibilities and has improved his technique in terms of catching the ball, he could blossom. As for Wolfe vs Peterson, I agree with you, but I don't think the coaching staff does.
  14. Adrian Peterson may not make the team, though. Wolfe is a contributor on special teams too and the Bears seem to like Wolfe more in the offense than Peterson (based on everything I've heard).
  15. Cut Jones to keep Rideau? No, thank you. Rideau is probably the odd man out at this point... he hasn't shown much in preseason games and has looked slow. Davis's play on ST will keep him around.
  16. Football Outsiders with a pretty cool look at our offense http://footballoutsiders.com/walkthrough/2009/walkthrough-chicago-six
  17. Making the adjustment doesn't guarantee success against it. There was definitely a trend. Regardless, no matter how you look at it, Favre was a turnover machine at the end of last year and isn't any younger. And he might still be hurt. And he's had one good season out of the last 5 or 6. It might work out if he can defer to Peterson and the run game and plays a more conservative game. Whether he can do that remains to be seen. And like I said, extrapolating the sack totals was pretty much absurd. Citing his sack total last year and how it was higher than any he'd had in a while while playing behind a pretty damn solid offensive line is legitimate, though. EDIT - Fixed... LOL at he might still be young
  18. Analyst: Favre looks ‘slow’ http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AvjSMUagjpPSxHkdFeLkQI9DubYF?slug=jc-favrereview090109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns First off, I'll say that I think it's unfair, at best, to attempt to extrapolate his sack total in a a few quarters of a preseason game into a full season total. That said, it's not surprising at all. I mentioned the point made in the bolded earlier in the thread. Favre was getting TONS of YAC last year, 2nd or 3rd most in the league among qualifiers. I don't know that it's accurate to blame it on the Jets speed so much as it might be that Favre doesn't have the quite have the deep accuracy anymore. Either way, it points to the idea that it may have been more of an adjustment by teams playing against him than the injury (a bit of both, certainly) that caused him to turn the ball over like crazy toward the end of the season.
  19. SI has the Bears beating the Packers in the NFCCG (at home) and losing the Super Bowl to the Patriots. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/09/01/main/index.html?eref=sihpT1 http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/public/92881/bears%20SI.JPG
  20. Total viewers and rating doesn't necessarily mean the same thing. A 6.6 could have represented fewer viewers in 1996 than in a 6.0 in 2009.
  21. lol their hate is so transparent and pathetic because you know that 99% of them would be ecstatic if they could change it all back
  22. Bears sign Rod Hood.
  23. So Favre apparently may not play tonight and has diagnosed himself with a cracked rib. Blog says he's expected to play, though, so we'll see. If true, what a selfless warrior. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4434939
  24. Apparently, doesn't remember telling Marshall he'd trade him, either.
