  1. There's nothing wrong with being pass first when you have Jay Cutler at QB. In fact, you're doing yourself a disservice if you're not. That said, have to get better at using the pass to set up the run.
  2. Now, can we stop all the nonsense with the blitzing and stay in Cover 2 for however long we continue to generate consistent pressure? I hate, hate, hate how blitz happy we've been. The middle of the field has been wide the hell open.
  3. Well, FWIW, he's only averaging .1 ypc less than last year at this point... big plays are part of that just like the short ones are. I've never understood why people try to pull out the big plays and say he's only averaging 3 yards or whatever outside of the big ones (or whatever - not saying you're doing that but just putting it out there). My point being that the run game wasn't all that good last year and his overall production this year so far as a runner isn't that far off what he was last year. He's solid, not great, at running the ball. The fact that he's solid at so many facets of the game is where his value really lies. And yea, if our line was better at run blocking his numbers would obviously be better.
  4. They don't seem to care right now...Orton has proven capable enough to run their offense it seems. I bet most would tell you they'd rather have Orton than Cutler. Cutler has been awesome the last 3 games, but he's had 3 game stretches of awesomeness in the past only to see a leveling off. I think Cutler is legit and what he shows is an improvement over last year, but the jury is still out a bit. The jury is not still out at all. Especially not within the context of comparing him to Orton.
  5. I can't believe you have never been to a game. Are you tailgating to get the full day experience? Regardless, have a great time. Thanks. No tailgating. Friend lives in a building pretty close (like LSD and Randolph) so we're going to take a cab from there. Will probably get there early to check out as much of the stadium as possible.
  6. Thanks... It's actually my first football game, period... Noon on Sunday can't get here soon enough
  7. Going to the game this weekend as of a little while ago... My first Bears game ever... can't wait
  8. Pretty sure he was asking, "Really?" about what he put in bold.
  9. I am. Why take away any snaps from this young WR corps when all we've seen of them is good performance and progress on a week to week basis? I don't want an old and bad WR who used to be good on the roster. And I don't want to hear anything about veteran leadership and taking the young guys under his wing, because that couldn't be any further from the type of guy Marvin is.
  10. They're going to look to sign Marvin Harrison to replace our #4/#5 WR?
  11. lol now Morrissey, who, if you haven't been following, bashed the trade when it happened and has looked for any opportunity to criticize Cutler since, is comparing Cutler to Tom Brady.... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-30-morrissey-jay-cutler-sep30,0,315321.column
  12. Yea, I have no idea why they would want anything to do with Marvin Harrison at this point.
  13. What's your issue? The headline? Cuz I'm sure David Haugh didn't write that. If you're saying that's an anti-Cutler article, I disagree strongly. Agreed. Haugh is a huge Cutler fan and there was nothing really idiotic about it. And Haugh is awesome. I can't blame the out of towners for not knowing that, though. You get a much better feel for who these guys are when you see them on local TV all the time and you hear them on the radio everyday.
  14. Just to continue looking at how the Broncos WR are doing vs. our maligned corps. I think this season will be a pretty interesting case study for this, since a swap like this is pretty unprecedented. Hester 13 rec 187 yds 2TD Bennett 13 rec 168 yds 0TD Knox 9 rec 159 yds 2TD Marshall 12 rec 128 yds 1TD Gaffney 10 rec 146 yds 0TD Stokley 6 rec 157 yds 1TD Royal 6 rec 42 yds 0 TD And don't forget how Stokley got half those yards and the TD. We'll get even more of a look as the Broncos start to play some real teams and we start to play some crappier ones.
  15. All blue was awesome... that green thing looks like vomit
  16. They play the Falcons on SNF after the bye on October 18th. They play the Bengals the week after that. After that, you won't see them until back to back national games on Thurs night (11/12) vs. SF and on SNF (11/22) vs. the Eagles.
  17. Hey. He was traded for Ken Griffey, Jr. One of the greatest players of our generation. He's got to be good if the Reds got Griffey for him 10 years ago. And yes, OMC, this would be the ultimate Cubs move: Sign a guy who used to be good a long time ago but is worthless now, and then the front office crows about the big-name FA we signed and how they're trying their damndest to win. Besides successfully taking a flier on Jim Edmonds at league minimum, when the hell was the last time the Cubs have done this? If anything, their most recent MO has been to overpay players coming off the best years of their career. I wouldn't be able to argue with that. Your Cubs melodrama reaches insane proportions sometimes.
  18. Seriously... WTF responses in this thread? Cameron would be a nice addition assuming he isn't paid something insane. EDIT - I see that this has been mostly straightened out in the rest of the thread...
  19. i love stuff like this http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-films-anatomy-of-a-play/09000d5d812e272a/WK-2-Anatomy-Cutler-to-Knox
  20. Well, I mean, Des Clark was a big part of that 2 TE set. So that's kind of screwed. It remains to be seen if Kellen Davis is actually any good and if they can go about it the same way with him...
  21. It took you until two games into this season to realize this? That's like somebody just now realizing that Aaron Miles isn't good at baseball. Turner has never had a good QB, a good RB, and good TE's in the same season until this one. He doesn't really have the excuse this year that he has been able to fall back on in previous years....that he didn't have the tools to field a good offense. He does this year...even with mediocre WR play. It's not that I haven't had my doubts about Ron Turner. I think it's just proven that the excuses (admittedly, not given by him, but by defenders of his) don't fly. If you were going to withhold judgment until you saw what he did with talent this year, I don't see why you'd conclude that he's bad after two games. One game the offense moved the ball decently in a hostile environment but Cutler made dumb throws/WRs screwed up routes/fat guys made amazing plays that kept them from scoring a lot. I'll give you that they should've run the ball more in the first half because of how Cutler was struggling. In the second game, the offense did a pretty decent job against a pretty damn good defense, Troy or not. Not sure how, if you were going into this open minded, you'd deem him bad after these two games, especially after the second one. Personally, I think he's fine. The reason our offense has been anywhere between meh and bad the last few years has been crappy players, especially at QB. The reason it will be better is because we have a good QB who is going to make everybody better and allow some of our players to show their strengths. I don't think the OC matters all that much (barring extreme cases like a moron like John Shoop) and I don't think there are huge differences among WCO offensive coordinators. The few times he has had decent quarterback play, the offense has performed well. 1995 with a healthy Erik Kramer and 2006 before the Arizona game showed everyone that all you had to do was bring some pressure to make Rex completely lose is mind. I mean, it's not like we've ever had elite offensive talent (even now, we're only elite at one position and even that's apparently debatable to some people). We've pretty much always had crap. Sometimes better crap than others, and a few decent RBs along the way, but yea.
  22. Except the Bears are only gonna prep for Wallace so it doesn't matter. LOL at you Jim Mora.
  23. The Seahawks injury report is pretty lengthy... Mebane Hill Jones Spencer Branch Tatupu (no practice) Hasselbeck Houshmandzadeh (no practice) Fisher
  24. Hester also impressed me making some tough and important catches on 3rd downs...
  25. Tennesse gained 320 yards with Troy on the field while Chicago gained 275 yards without him. There's no point in even bringing up what they could have done. Cutler looked pretty good, but the offense was not impressive. Fair enough. I don't necessarily think it's fair to judge Pittsburgh's defense off that one game and use it as a measuring stick (and Troy was in for what, part of the first quarter? Or did he get hurt in the second quarter? - not that he didn't make a noticeable impact when he was in), but I thought it was a respectable effort for an offense that is in transition and was pretty crappy last year and was up against a pretty damn good defense, Troy or not.
