  1. tonight's intrasquad game will be broadcast on marquee
  2. depends what you think of posey at this point i guess and whether last year means he's done crazy thing about kopech is he hasn't pitched in a real game since what, september 2018? that will be one long layoff. wonder what kind of impact that has on a guy's development (i'm sure he'll be fine).
  3. almost no hit the red sox too. i think he had a few of those that year.
  4. In case people are still sweating this after Kenney expressed confidence a few weeks back that it would be done.
  5. i knew they were right around each other, but i couldn't remember who was first.
  6. I remember sensing the tide turning in late 2014. First, IIRC, it was Alcantara (lol) and Hendricks getting called up around the same time. Then Javy which was super exciting until he started striking out in 80% of his PAs. Then Soler came up and did crazy awesome things. Rizzo had turned it around after a really crappy 2013 and Starlin was showing signs of life. Oh, and Arrieta was pitching like a Cy Young contender while nobody was looking. It was this weird sort of fun payoff to actually paying attention to the team while they sucked ass to sort of see the tidal wave of awesome just starting to form at the end of that year (even though, as tends to happen, some of the guys who were doing well at that point ended up being not so great and other guys ended up being awesome).
  7. Yes. When I signed up for MLB.tv way back in the aughts one of the reasons the gave for blackouts was to encourage fans local to their favorite teams to buy tickets to the game instead of watching it on TV, so they blacked it out which makes no sense in a city that's 5+ hours away from the nearest baseball team that gets blacked out from 4 of them despite not having the option to watch them on their local TV station. As I said, it's not the reason, but it's a reason they gave for the blackouts and it's completely absurd. that's not a reason though. the reason is so that you have to pay for RSN carriage. attendance makes no sense as a reason to block MLB streaming. the games are still available to (most - not all, though, which is one of the dumbest things about this) of these people on TV in some form.
  8. i think he's getting mixed up thinking of local blackouts when the teams dont hit an attendance threshold, like used to happen in the NFL.
  9. If a player dies from COVID? Nah, if that happens it’s dunzo. What if the player's case is traced to something outside of his job? It'll still cement the possibility as real (and perceived to be more likely than it is, perhaps) and lead to pulling back. We've made long standing/permanent changes to society in reaction to plenty of unlikely events that just hadn't occurred yet before. I think seeing a player die would make players far more fearful of getting it, too, even if they can prove he didn't get it from "work."
  10. "Typical Cuban-Americans, I guess"
  11. I agree, it’s funny that people think the Cleveland Indians or Atlanta Braves team names offend anything approaching a majority of Native Americans. Why should it be ok for it to offend any significant number of people? What good reason is there for those being the team mascots other than, "That's the way it's always been?" What's the argument against changing the names so that even a minority of people aren't offended? Who does it hurt to change a stupid team mascot?
  12. Chatwood is gonna be good and should've had a spot before the Quintana injury.
  13. it's happening
  14. i thought wade already disclosed all this a few years ago after he signed with the bulls, no?
  15. My guess is he's opting out. He's a diabetic, apparently.
  16. also i am pretty sure the rooftops are technically owned by hickory street capital, not the actual cubs
  17. I could be off in my thinking but I'd imagine they'd be running at a loss or just barely a profit to run them at such a low capacity. May be more profitable to run the season off as a total loss due to some sort of super rich people write off or insurance claim. i have a hard time believing that (as far as the rooftops go)
  18. I would imagine so. I believe I saw that if Chicago stays in Phase 4 Wrigley can operate at 20% capacity. I think the big question would be whether the rooftops would be treated like an extension of Wrigley or like you said like a bar/restaurant. lightfoot already said that chicago won't allow it (20% at wrigley/major venues) for the foreseeable future
  19. does anyone think the cubs might try to run the rooftops? can they pass it off as a bar/restaurant and run it under those guidelines?
  20. It was more than just sheer laziness. I was at a stoplight and I knew I could always count on you for something like this lol You typed two separate sentences including punctuation in a stoplight post? Put the phone down you negligent homicidal maniac. lmao. voice to text. that's why there's actually some capitalization and stuff.
  21. I shouldn't reward such sheer laziness lol, but 42-18. I have to assume that this was their best 60 game stretch of the year too given the 25-6 start. It was more than just sheer laziness. I was at a stoplight and I knew I could always count on you for something like this lol
  22. How did the 2016 team do through 60 games? Just curious, and too lazy to try to look it up right now
  23. Yes. It would appear all the things that were in the rejected agreement are happening anyway except for the 16-team playoffs. The universal DH for this year was agreed to a long time ago. I think the justification had something to do with having fewer reasons to burn through a pitching staff with the complications this season presents. The universal DH for 2021 is what we lost (unless that has since changed today and I missed that).
  24. oh my god i completely forgot that we're going bryzzo at the top. seems like so long ago. hell yes, these lineups fornicate.
