Given the drastic amount of change on this roster and coaching staff, I think the value of any DVOA numbers is essentially nil until they've had 4-5 weeks worth of games this season.

I'm not gonna put a number to it (mostly because every time I go through the schedule, I end up with what feels like an absurdly high number), but I think this team is better than most people realize. I think a top 10 defense and a top 15 offense is likely, with the upside of a top 5ish defense and a top 10ish offense. Those combinations make for very good teams. The most likely path to downside seems like it's the OL being abysmal. Fingers crossed that it's adequate, because I think that's all it needs to be. The other wild card would be having a tough luck run in that late season gauntlet of divisional games. The inverse is also true, though (run hot and get into a great position). If Caleb is THAT dude (the type to have a big rookie year - stroud, herbert, prescott, etc. type - something that should be realistic for a prospect of his caliber) and they steer clear of bad injury luck, I have a hard time putting a ceiling on what this team can do, given what is around him.

He also clearly isn't 145 lbs, regardless of what the website said, so double burn. -
eberflus has, a few times, referenced the preseason snap totals rookies got in the past few years (mentioned stroud, richardson and others specifically, iirc) and suggested they'll look to be somewhere in that range with caleb. i don't want him to play a whole lot, but i do think it's probably a good idea for him to at least have a few reps under his belt if only for the procedural stuff in the huddle and at the line.

a little envious because i haven't been able to think about anything else since sometime in january. summer has been a minor distraction, at least, but camp is pretty much here now.

16-1. They're still going to lose in horsefeathers Lambeau (in an undefeated week 18 no less) because of course they will.

Positive view of it is it gives Caleb a chance to acclimate himself to the league properly before the most important games hit the schedule.

This was a fantastic read.

HBO is pushing for it and it's obvious why. A Bears Hard Knocks would be a home run for them and the alternatives (in terms of teams they can force) are very much not that. I'm pretty sure it's going to happen, especially with the way it's been talked about lately (and I'm usually the first to throw cold water on HK/Bears speculation when it comes up every year).
