  1. lol this is a terrible analogy
  2. If you hold your 5th starter to the same standards you hold your #1 starter, you're gonna have a bad time. Which is basically what goony said in the link I posted (that they should all be held to the same standard).
  3. then you'll probably be even more surprised that he went 2/4 with a R and RBI against us in the 07 playoffs
  4. i was trying to find the video where motte yells "NO GOGGLES KELLY LET IT BURN" or something like that
  5. It'll be owned by the Ricketts family. which also means the cubs won't have anything to do with it. i believe kenney has stated at one point or another that the money will be put back into the team, but that since it's a separate entity, it won't have to go through the revenue sharing stuff and maybe whatever the covenant restrictions were with the debt obligations? i could totally be pulling out of my ass and i'm definitely speaking out of turn, as i have no idea about any of that stuff...just a vague recollection of what was said. i think kenney said the same about the ricketts owned rooftops.
  6. a lot of it
  7. It'll be owned by the Ricketts family.
  8. i just don't want to miss any insanely great moments like this
  9. I would assume the expectation is for relatively few guests to arrive via their own car that needs to be parked, like a lot of city-based hotels. this too. whatever parking there is will be insanely pricey, i'm sure.
  10. originally, i believe the plan was to have underground parking in the hotel. not sure if that has changed, but there's also a bunch of parking spots that are part of the (unrelated to the Cubs) addison park on clark project
  11. so the new hotel is going to be called Hotel Zachary...after the architect who designed Wrigley. Nice enough idea, I guess, but nobody is going to have any clue what that's about. http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/travel/ct-wrigley-field-hotel-zachary-travel-0914-20160913-story.html http://www.trbimg.com/img-57d8733d/turbine/ct-tlh-hotel-zachary-rendering-cubs-jpg-20160913/1550/1550x872 http://www.trbimg.com/img-57d8733d/turbine/ct-tlh-hotel-zachary-rendering-2-jpg-20160913/750/1550x872
  12. going to be at this game tonight. i set my DVR to go 3 hours after the scheduled end (on CSN) to capture whatever coverage there may be afterwards. you guys think any other channel will have major coverage? maybe mlbn? local news probably...
  13. i horsefeathering love this scene. kills me.
  14. https://www.instagram.com/p/BKW5D-TgJdW/ this caption is so perfectly javy
  15. I was gonna offer this. That season BABIP of .251 is so ludicrously out of step with decades of history... are we *that* good on defense and *that* good at getting weak contact? (Perhaps pitchers who induce weak contact synergize exceptionally well with great defenders, both improving each other?) If it was just luck though, and we were that much of an outlier, you would have expected the half season BABIP to start regressing, and it really hasn't, over thousands of batted balls. I dunno. Being so ludicrously out of step with decades of history would be easier to assign to being so ludicrously talented and well run than to ludicrous luck. Obviously, there's probably some positive variance involved in there, but with that much talent, we are likely to be doing this for a while.
  16. oh right. coghlan has been bad so .210 would be good. he's actually hitting .214 with the cubs tho. also, the cardinals suck. they don't have pixie dust. *beep boop beep* (extremely robot voice) actually pixie dust is from the 1953 walt disney film 'peter pan.' there is no evidence that it exists in real life. i will never know a woman's touch. The point is the pixie dust is ours, you silly bastard
  17. Maybe it's the beer but this doesn't really make sense to me Being classy enough to play for the Cardinals instantly raises your BA by at least 40 points. oh right. coghlan has been bad so .210 would be good. he's actually hitting .214 with the cubs tho. also, the cardinals suck. they don't have pixie dust.
  18. He was wearing a Cardinals jersey. Duh. Coghlan would probably be hitting a robust .210 if he was on their squad. Maybe it's the beer but this doesn't really make sense to me
  19. viewtopic.php?p=1953#p1953 :-k :-k :-k :-" :-" :-" Yes, an above average starting pitcher. I realize my stance on this isn't clean, but Hammel is fine. I don't disagree with what you said (this time). Just struck me as funny and I remembered that exchange.
  20. bring on all the weirdo randos we need it
  21. I think Jason Hammel does a tremendous job with what the Cubs need him to be, which is a 5th starter who pitches like a well above average starter. He gives you quality innings and most of the time a great chance to win the game. No need to start him in the playoffs and no need to get rid of him before next year, when rotation depth will remain an issue. viewtopic.php?p=1953#p1953 :-k :-k :-k :-" :-" :-"
  22. I'm sure they've fixed guys and we just didn't make a big deal out of it but it seems like the Cubs have 2 players who they tried to refine into better overall hitters with disasterous results. you mean like bryant, rizzo, russell, and fowler? all of them have made significant adjustments under the tutelage of our big league coaching that really made them take steps forward. hell, even javy is a very different hitter, even though he still has a ways to go.
  23. this idiot is going to get donged http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/alt/519076.jpg and then this guy will do a suprisingly solid and decent job http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/525x330/543557.jpg and then we will throw the dance party of all dance parties http://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/2015/09/26/images/mlbf_502708883_th_45.jpg
  24. i guess this confirms that we're too good to even minorly celebrate a wild card clinch
