  1. same reason i didn't want to trade baez last offseason the market isn't always right. soler's value is at a low point and he has upside. not to mention the thing most are talking about trading him for, young pitching, is still very overvalued.
  2. I would rather spend my afternoon pregaming at the worst and douchiest Wrigleyville bar than go watch the Bears.
  3. lots of people call them that
  4. Kicking the horsefeathers out of Dusty to win the pennant would be... delicious. losing the pennant to Dusty would be... a swift kick to the jimmy That's loser talk.
  5. Depth/protection against injury, to face LHP and because we can? Why trade him just because? He's not bringing anything but a nominal return so keep him and let baseball figure itself out. Or do you just want the Szczur's of the world taking up bench spots? I asked Longenhagen in a chat on Soler's value. He equated it to around the equivalent of a top 75 prospect. If we keep Dex, we've got enough depth. Grabbing a top 75ish prospect, or a pitcher that's came up and has lost a bit of value(but still has upside) seems like a good idea to me. We very well may STILL be selling at the highest point possible. Because injuries and his lack of D are not likely to be changing. We're obviously in a great spot with depth and its not a necessity to deal him. But if that's the expected type of return-I think its good enough to pull the trigger personally. No, thanks. I'd still bet on Soler having a more productive career than a 75 ranked pitching prospect. The FO will figure out the pitching, especially with the defense we have. Young pitching is still being overvalued. Give me all the bats. The depth is an extremely important part of why we're so good. Did anyone honestly expect a (solid) rotation made up of Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta, Lackey, and Hammel to be historically good at run prevention with a down year from Arrieta? The combination of this defense, the coaches, and this FO are magic.
  6. We'd be trading him because he's an attractive asset and sooner or later we're going to need another starting pitcher. Given what we have, and given what Soler's shown and not shown, he's the most expendable of that group. What do you think his value is right now? Because to me his value is find a AA pitcher who isn't a big prospect hope you get lucky on his development or you have to take a gamble on a guy who's working back from injury. Yep.
  7. That's not really a thing, especially if Fowler leaves. Even if he stays there's enough PAs/platoon situations to take advantage of. If Fowler stays, it's a thing with Schwarber's return. Getting Bryant, Zobrist, Baez, Contreras and Schwarber all in the same lineup would be extremely difficult. And that's not including Soler either. It definitely gets easier if Fowler is gone and Heyward is in CF. You start to reduce old man Zobrist's playing time more and keep him fresher. Plus injuries will happen.
  8. I just don't think having too many talented young position players is a problem. Especially not with Joe Maddon. And we aren't always going to be as remarkably healthy as we were this year (in which, ironically, we did lose one of said core players for 99% of the year).
  9. Yeah, all I'm looking for is for him to improve his ABs to the point where he can be maybe 6ish, around where he had gotten to in the minors. Although I do think you're overstating the protection thing (as far as how much he will or won't be pitched around because of the rest of our lineup). Guys who walk will walk, guys who don't, won't. I don't think it matters much who is around him. If he's donging enough, though, he'll get pitched "around" more.
  10. I think the Dodgers are really damn good. I'd be much more confident if we had two lefties in the rotation. That's not to say I'd expect to lose. I'd just prefer the Nats.
  11. Early career Yankees Soriano is one of the better comps I came across. It's pretty hard to find guys who've had sustained success with a <5% BB rate and >20% K rate in their careers. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=2b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=1871&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&page=2_30 I'm still holding out hope that for Javy it just clicks one day and he ups his walk rate significantly, sort of like Sammy in 98 (yes, part of that was being pitched around, but there was a definite approach change that year, too). I think it could come as he matures and realizes more and more that he doesn't have to swing and approach ABs the way he does to hit dongs and be a productive hitter. I'm not saying it will, but I think he's talented enough to do it.
  12. lol that article is quoted right on this page but yeah, it's good there ain't no link yeah, it's further back viewtopic.php?p=108774#p108774

  17. good call. i've been to like 2-3 games since we got him with varying levels of sobriety but this is right. also i'm not really a fan of rage against the machine so i am not all that familiar with their songs I used to love Rage growing up. They're pretty silly now. With that said, I adore LZ... and the plagiarism charges are silly to me. Inspiration maybe, but literally different notes. Wake Up is a pretty sweet song to enter to, too. yeah i was really just pointing out the similarity. it's nowhere near as bad as green day - brain stew vs chicago - 25 or 6 to 4
  18. Lol wut? They play Wake Up by Rage Against the Machine when Chapman comes in. good call. i've been to like 2-3 games since we got him with varying levels of sobriety but this is right. also i'm not really a fan of rage against the machine so i am not all that familiar with their songs
  19. i wish people would just never suggest starting guys on short rest. it is not good. if the alternative isn't starting 2003 estes, it shouldn't even cross your mind. hell, even then, i'd rather do a bullpen game like we kinda did in game 4 nlds last year.
  20. i'm not sure, but in rewatching the 9th inning just now, i think they played kashmir at the end of the top of the 9th, which i believe they've been playing at wrigley when chapman comes in
  21. well, he was essentially a 3 win player (2.7 in 140ish games) with a below average bat this year... soo maybe? i guess? i have no problem continuing to use him the same way next year, maybe less 3B and more 2B but still picking and choosing his matchups, maybe a little more liberally
  22. casting this to my TV right now. what a time to be alive. i wish we could get the postgame uploaded too
  23. those tech nerds are probably hiding out on the dark net somehwere i will never waste an opportunity to post this
  24. I got picked for the NLDS (but tickets were sold out by the time I got in) and just got picked again for NLCS so that doesn't seem to be correct i hate you!! This brings my lottery record to 0-6 Didn't you get free tickets off a Twitter contest or something? You don't get to complain about that :-"
