What makes you say this? Ummm, because if you are picking top 5 you most likely sucked the year before, hence plenty of room for improvement And you can't take advantage of plenty of room for improvement by trading down for more picks?
Group A - Nolan Arenado Group B - Josh Donaldson, Manny Machado Group C - Joey Votto, Mike Trout, Giancarlo Stanton Group D - Buster Posey, Carlos Gomez, Willson Contreras, Josh Reddick, Adrian Gonzalez WC - PM
Didn't mean to imply that the Bears would have all 8 rated the same. Just to paint the picture of what the team would be looking at to draft. I guess my point is that's why trading picks seems so unlikely to me. When you are picking top 5, you typically have plenty of needs and therefor it makes more sense to pick your top guy if you can. What makes you say this?
for some perspective, rizzo was coming off 1.8 fWAR in 87 G and then about a month of whatever he did in 2013 when he got his extension a few months before his 24th bday. anderson put up 2.4 fWAR in 99g last year as a 22/23 year old. i think the downside, like you said, isn't much...the upside is that he continues to play well and maybe develop further and then they get him at a nice (maybe even great) value. Fair enough, but Rizzo showed more potential in minors to be an impact hitter. I get Anderson plays a premium position and good defense but man he could be an ugly offensive player. I just don't really see the upside in doing this. He has a pretty strong track record going back to the minors and his time in MLB last year that he's going to be a 3-4% BB and ~25% K guy in the majors that's gonna have to BABIP his way to any sort of respectable slash line. yeah, that's the wild card i suppose. his skillset is probably still undervalued on the market, so they probably don't need to do this if he remains the same type of player.

if he ever figures it out at the plate (namely vs rhp) then easily...until he puts up big offensive numbers, i just have a hard time saying that without at least the caveat that it's just defense/baserunning. a few years ago i felt like puig was that guy. just exciting at everything.
you might've missed it, but i think the hope of any of that in the remotely near term is officially dead after sammy's bizarre (and awesome) interview and the way the team apparently received it.
look at them they're all watching him to make fun of this horsefeathers thorn in their sides [tweet]https://twitter.com/ARizzo44/status/843999823908880384[/tweet]
Just noticed this while setting up our log spreadsheet for the tickets this year. The 2nd home game (ring ceremony night) is a bronze game for the STH, but they've got it as a platinum game for single game buyers. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/schedule/printable.jsp
no different from what law already said scouts have always hated his swing, and it's easy to see why. it was talked about when he signed his contract too. we're just hoping it's back to the slightly less ugly version that managed to yield an above average offensive player who plays elite defense for like 3400 PAs before last year.
ok so you guys know i'm about a half notch below mojo in my hockey indifference. so last time i remember checking, the hawks were hanging with the wild points/record wise but i remember them being wayyyyy behind in goal differential (like i remember it being maybe mid single digits positive). the hawks now have a +40 differential (still behind the wild's +54) and are ahead by 7 points. what the hell happened? have the hawks been blowing everybody out for the last several weeks or something? was it just toews not sucking anymore (this was one of the narratives i had heard by sports media osmosis)?
