Ohhhh that's delicious. One time a few years back, in the 2014/2015 offseason I was talking to a friend of a friend Cardinals fan about how good the Cubs were going to be. He lives in Chicago and has a tendency to be nice and placating, so this time he went on a thing about "I hope the Cubs are good, I really do." I was like "you really don't. It's gonna happen and you're going be sad for a bunch of years." I'm not sure what that guy is doing these days but I'm guessing that watching the Cubs dump beer all over their visitors lockerroom isn't especially enjoyable. I wonder how many Cards fans said patronizing stuff like that to Cubs fans in the years leading up to 2015 and I'm kinda hoping it stings a little more or that they blame themselves for jinxing the team or something. But mostly I'm just happy the schedulers set it up this way. Peace out Cardinals! Comeuppance is bitch! At a Cubs/Cards game in 2014 at Wrigley, I was drunken-loudly bashing Kolten Wong and mentioning how much someone has to suck to get picked off to lose a World Series game. The old Cards fan guy in front of me who was being fake nice at random times all game got all in a smug huff and said something like, "Any idea what it feels like to be in a World Series?" and I just said something to the effect of, "I'll know pretty soon." Not that cool of a story but I love thinking about what that idiot must feel like now. Reminds me also of opening night in 2015, waiting in one of those terrible bathroom lines, some Cards fan was talking horsefeathers and I told him I'd take our next 10 years over theirs without thinking twice. Got another smug response and even other Cubs fans were saying stuff like, "Pump the brakes, not even close." Dummies.
