  1. Regarding the offense, it's too bad you didn't watch the playoffs last year. Yes there are a couple different guys and its a different season, but the majority of the offense will be made up of guys who played on a team that got shut out 4 times in 13 LCS/WS games, including twice in a row in the NLCS, and 2 of the first 3 games of the World Series. What did the Cubs do after getting shut out 2 times in a row against the Dodgers? They scored 24 runs in the next 3 games including 5 off of Kershaw to win the series. What did they do after getting shut out in games 1 and 3 of the World series? ...Well they struggled for 2 more games and then broke out for 9 and 8 runs in the last 2 games to win the title. The Cubs are streaky but when they get out of slumps they get out of them in a hurry. I'm not saying the Cubs are a lock to win or anything but I expect the Cubs to come through until they don't. I have full faith in Kyle, and Gio honestly does not scare me at all. Sure having Scherzer in the middle innings scares me but so did Andrew Miller in Game 7 and we scored 2 off of him. it's almost as if the majority of these slumps and streaks in baseball are just a figment of our imaginations or something occasionally something mechanical gets out of whack or whatever, but usually it's just baseball. the cubs are going to get shut down by great pitching sometimes. that's why it's great pitching. i mean we're talking about guys like clayton kershaw, max scherzer, and stephen strasburg right now. for horsefeathers's sake. that doesn't mean they'll never beat it, but they're obviously going to get beat by it frequently too, especially with how often you face it in the playoffs.
  2. when is game 1? i haven't allowed myself to think that far ahead. Saturday Lester because yesterday was his "side day?" Or Lackey...not sure what else you do unless Hendricks just mows them down and never gives Joe a chance to use Q.
  3. it's funny you use this gif i wish i could just not watch tonight and assume a loss and then just consider it gravy when i wake up tomorrow to find we have another game on saturday.
  4. when is game 1? i haven't allowed myself to think that far ahead.
  5. it doesn't make any sense to be extremely confident or extremely doubtful either way. it's one baseball game (and one best of 5 series) between two very well matched and very good teams. i don't get why we try to analyze it so hard other than i guess to expend nervous energy.
  6. cleveland has blown 2 game leads in consecutive playoff series. people forget that too.
  7. the origin of the robot joke doesn't even make sense! not to mention that i'm a psychotic meatball in the playoffs and i truly believe these games reduce my life expectancy
  8. i don't know how you guys can be very confident or expecting doom. i just kinda go into playoff games fearing bad stuff but with zero expectation either way... GEE, I WONDER WHY. this is gratuitous considering the rest of my post. shame on you.
  9. i don't know how you guys can be very confident or expecting doom. i just kinda go into playoff games fearing bad stuff but with zero expectation either way... like, it would have to be some extreme matchup like the defending champs facing some mediocre lefty against a modern day greg maddux (minus the playoff downtick) or something crazy like that.
  10. i don't really care about bulletin board material or whatever but why would you even say that?
  11. 3 days rest 2, he pitched Monday... Tuesday/Wednesday off i'm an idiot forgot what day today is
  12. I wish yeah they were just talking on the broadcast and said scherzer was going on short rest after coming back from an injury
  13. the white boy from altoona iowa who played college football in the big ten being against the anthem protests surprises you? i knew this exact response would be coming and i don't know why i was under the impression that he was pretty liberal. it's been so long that i have no idea of the origin of why i thought that anymore. edit - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2014/dec/30/kyle-orton-and-the-search-for-the-nfls-liberals https://www.huffingtonpost.com/weston-gentry/kyle-orton-the-antitebow_b_957016.html
  14. neckbeard is on the score taking a pretty strong stance against the anthem protests right now would not have guessed
  15. [tweet] [/tweet] i wonder how long it took whoever to find this
  16. yeah i was just thinking the same thing we can tweet highlights from losses when we're winning 10+ games again...right now it just seems pathetic, even though, admittedly, that was a very cool play
  17. Whether it was gamesmanship or Strasburg being shamed into starting, I think a few of us had a feeling this might happen. i don't think it was gamesmanship. too much other stuff going on. lots of obvious incompetence and agitated mike rizzo, etc.
