  1. I'll take their best seasons based on ERA+... Prior at his best.. (2003) 30 GS 211.3 IP 245K 50 BB 2.43 ERA 175 ERA+ 1.103 WHIP Z at his best... (2004) 31 GS 209.7 IP 188K 81 BB 2.75 ERA 165 ERA+ 1.216 WHIP I'll take Mark. Admittedly, Z has had two seasons at/close to that level, which in terms of current value gives Z a hell of a leg up... But if we're talking at their best, I have to go with Mark. EDIT - Just want to restate that I'm not trying to bash Z at all. I've just always thought Prior was the better pitcher.. (and think an argument can be made for Wood)... WALKER with the double!!!!
  2. Anyone else remember the game where Fernando Vina swung and missed at a Kerry pitch that then broke and hit him in the shin? Twice. YES... love it.
  3. Especially if he could still throw that curve from '98 that people started calling a "slurve."... Unfortunately, he can say probably goodbye to his reconstructed UCL if he throws that one. Still...Filthiest pitch I have ever seen.
  4. Yeah, that's not true. When Prior is healthy, it's not close. Wood is a much closer call, admittedly. Prior has command. Z and Wood have much filthier stuff. I can buy that.
  5. No. Z has the single best pitch, even better than Wood's curve with that 95 mph sinker. He is healthy and a horse and can hit .300. I'd take him over Wood and Prior in a heartbeat. Let's not get crazy here. If and when Prior is healthy he's the most domiate Cubs pitcher and one of the most dominate in the league. Thanks for supporting my side of the argument... but the word is "dominant".. Just a small pet peeve of mine..
  6. Yeah, that's not true. When Prior is healthy, it's not close. Wood is a much closer call, admittedly.
  7. I'm not even saying this just because of this game.. (or now, in light of that 3 run bomb he just gave up), and not to take anything away from Z, but I've always sort of laughed at the notion that Z was the best of our injury-depleted "Big 3".. Prior and Wood are definitely better (those two huge qualifying words attached, of course)... Z is still awesome though...
  8. He was down in the count 1-2...can't necessarily blame him for taking the protective swing. You take protective swings on close pitches... not ones that are about to bounce off the plate...
  9. I'm guessing the people calling out ARam here are the people who are listening but not watching...
  10. This team is so confusing. I really really like some parts of the roster.. and I *really* dislike other parts. Time to start the 2006 championship season...
  11. I'm gonna try and stay optimistic about Jones.. Maybe they'll give him enough days off against lefties that his numbers will be solid. Hey, Jones has a 1.250 OPS against Harang (in 4 AB's) So what's his story again? 2 years ago, he was hitting great. That's not all that long ago. Injuries? He claims that as they lost some of their better hitters, he felt more pressure to drive in a lot of runs and hit for power, and started to try to pull the ball too much.
  12. Bruce already released it. Pierre Walker Lee Aram Jockstrap Barrett Murton Cedeno Big Z NOTTA BAD LINEUP...EXCEPT FOR JAQUE...BUT HEY, WHATTYA DO? I'm gonna try and stay optimistic about Jones.. Maybe they'll give him enough days off against lefties that his numbers will be solid.
