  1. Apparently Harper was spotted at the Blackhawks game last night or something? I know there was the White Sox thing, but maybe Charles the Cat was right about him meeting with the Cubs this weekend, too.
  2. BDB/PWC's doom bonering game has been highly underrated here since like 2015...maybe because it's always masked/softened with something like "but I don't know as much as you guys so I hope you're right" or "don't get me wrong, i really want < good thing> to happen, but" You don't even watch baseball anymore until the playoffs because you're too cool, so I don't give a horsefeathers what you think. you've confused "don't really get emotional about a game" with "don't even watch" i'll have you know i wasted plenty of hours watching regular season cubs in 2018
  3. Nagging, career-curtailing injury immediately follows. or we could go with: prior rolling around on the ground grabbing on his shoulder sammy's helmet exploding d-lee's wrist nomar grabbing his crotch kb's slide (did we actually see this happen?)
  4. Don't be willfully obtuse, it's a really bad look. BDB/PWC's doom bonering game has been highly underrated here since like 2015...maybe because it's always masked/softened with something like "but I don't know as much as you guys so I hope you're right" or "don't get me wrong, i really want < good thing> to happen, but"
  5. literally in that article from this week But clickbait headlines
  6. i had similar thoughts. i feel inclined to think it's more correlation more than anything. either way, they're in good company, at least. and the teams in the division are behind by a pretty wide margin, so maybe that's something.
  7. [tweet] [/tweet] https://theathletic.com/644267/2018/11/09/one-important-statistic-that-shows-why-the-bears-could-win-the-nfc-north-yards-per-point/ I'll post a snippet for non-subscribers Packers 27th, Lions 24th, and Vikings 21st
  8. yeah, i mean, opt-outs are just another way of providing value, no different than money or whatever the hell else. you can try to not give them out, but you better be offering a lot more money in exchange.
  9. 3 years from now you're talking about essentially a different franchise. Bryant, Baez, Rizzo, Lester, Zobrist, Hendricks, Schwarber, Montgomery, Quintana, the whole bullpen sans Edwards, all at free agency. If anything Harper extends your window of competitiveness by having a star caliber player to build around instead of completely starting from scratch and spending your money on worse players than Harper anyway. Great. Sounds like we'd be the Angels, just not quite as good. what the hell are you talking about? jesus
  10. Carter is going to be a stud
  11. he hit 89% of his kicks his first year, 32/36 (made pro-bowl, for whatever that is worth), looks like he got hurt and went on IR in 2015, made 80% in 2016, and 91% in 2017...how's that not relatively competent? I'll concede the age argument, being only 26 and having time on his side to improve, but he hasn't had a lot of kicking experience and he's bounced around a good bit. that makes me question his competency a lot despite hitting 89% of 23 fg's or so in the last few years. Thats not a lot of attempts. And, he's struggled over 40 yards a good bit he's 70% on 43 attempts over 40 yards for his career...i honestly don't know if that's good or bad...my guess is it's mediocre.
  12. i'd agree with that. of course, you could just about make that case for all but like 2-3 nba teams (most of which, yes, are way better than the bulls).
  13. he hit 89% of his kicks his first year, 32/36 (made pro-bowl, for whatever that is worth), looks like he got hurt and went on IR in 2015, made 80% in 2016, and 91% in 2017...how's that not relatively competent?
  14. I just dont see him as the future. Love to be wrong I mean yes you'd like to have a solid stable kicker like we had with Gould for the previous decade but among concerns for the Bears, having a kicker of the future is pretty low. plus he's 26...so even if having a kicker of the future were a thing, as long as he stays relatively competent, like he has been, he probably will be here for the foreseeable future.
  15. idk what the hell hickey did well anyway. he can go.
  16. I recently saw some conversation on Chicago sports twitter about ranking all of the teams based on how far away they are from a playoff berth, and people seemed to consistently be placing the Bulls in last. Without even getting into how much easier it is to make the NBA playoffs than the MLB playoffs, I really don't see how you can put the White Sox ahead of the Bulls at this point. (I realize this is damning with faint praise but I still don't really see how it's close) Carter Jr. looks very solid already Markkanen is very good and I am very high on his future LaVine has been great a couple of other guys on the roster that are at least mildly interesting i.e. portis and dunn a bunch of those bulls guys obviously haven't been playing, and it's reflected in their current record, but people act as if the white sox rebuild is just going to automatically materialize just because the cubs and astros had success
  17. I'm not sure I really wanted him unless he was cheap. He does have some mileage and our DE's are pretty solid as is. If anything, I really want a new kicker. it sucks that he missed that kick in Miami but i don't really see how parkey has been a big problem he's 13/16... 5/7 from 40-49 and 1/2 from 50+ (28/28 on xp also)
  18. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff Bears #4 overall in DVOA #1 in defense, #10 in offense, #26 in ST Also, they've got them with a 67% chance to win the division, 20% chance at a bye, and 79% overall to make the playoffs
  19. Obviously not comparing what they did to get run out of town, but he did the same thing with Zambrano, then he traded him for Chris Volstad a few weeks later. I highly doubt Russell plays another inning here.
  20. The bears are very good and should have a better first half record than 5-3. Yes, we can go 5-3 on the back end and should be better.
  21. I'm not in favor of it, but didn't it work in our favor like three times today?
