  1. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64666&sid=477b44cfe63b78e1c6796bdda36e3597 Yeah, that definitely didn't come out of nowhere. It was discussed for a while. i mean from the media, particularly the local media, and mostly prior to the winter meetings. it picked up steam right around this time that year. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?p=3319208#p3319208
  2. well ten teams would be a lot to choose from. so would half that. and given the types of franchises likely to be involved in that grouping, i'd have a hard time seeing the white sox being one of the most attractive options (again, without blowing the field out of the water in terms of money). Then we just have wildly different ideas of what "no shortage of teams" means out of 30 teams. To me, only 4-5 teams, tops (and that's also all I think is probably out there), being likely suitors is not that. in a "here's 5 teams offering you 350 (or 400 or whatever) million, pick one" situation, among the organizations likely to be able/willing to do that, i just have a hard time seeing the sox winning out.
  3. I think I must be remembering wrong, but in my mind I got a push notification on my phone that he was signed and had no idea they were even in the mix. A couple of weeks ago I even looked for the thread to try and confirm that but couldn't find it. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64666&sid=477b44cfe63b78e1c6796bdda36e3597
  4. [tweet] [/tweet] this is brutal. could be really really serious. hoping for the best.
  5. age 26 generational (blah blah debate over this word) talents don't come through free agency but like once a decade, if that. i think all the public disinterest teams are showing is almost entirely negotiating/posturing. Again, strongly disagree. I'd genuinely be surprised if there were even 10 teams even just considering that type of mega contract. well ten teams would be a lot to choose from. so would half that. and given the types of franchises likely to be involved in that grouping, i'd have a hard time seeing the white sox being one of the most attractive options (again, without blowing the field out of the water in terms of money).
  6. Thinking aloud here...does anyone remember who first reported the Cubs as being serious players for Heyward? I seem to remember it coming somewhat out of nowhere, as people (especially the local media) weren't expecting a big splash signing in 2015-16 after they signed Lester the year before. We speculated about it here a lot, but I don't remember the media seeing it coming far ahead. I actually remember DiCaro, of all people, Tweeting some stuff, but don't remember where the first reports came from that the Cubs were strongly in.

  8. There's also the possibility that he doesn't want to have to do that. No kidding; the point is that is not THAT bonkers that Harper would go there if they were willing to pay him what he wants. And, let's face it, that Reinsdorf is Reinsdorf is the biggest hurdle to that happening and why it likely won't happen, not, "LOL THE WHITE SOX PROSPECTS ARE ACTUALLY MADE UP OF BROKEN GI JOE FIGURES WITH POPSICLE STICKS FOR ARMS." yeah, but he's gonna have no shortage of teams that'll pay him what he wants. i think they'd have to blow teams out of the water to get him, given the overall picture. and reinsdorf's history makes it really hard to see them blowing the field out of the water, so by extension, i consider the idea pretty bonkers. also did you edit that reinsdorf stuff in after i thought of my response or am i going nuts?
  9. [tweet] [/tweet] he has me blocked on twitter, so i could be remembering wrong, but wasn't he one of the guys poo-pooing the cubs spending big this offseason a few weeks ago?
  10. yes and eloy is either a poor corner OF or a DH so he better hit like they think he can or he's just a guy
  11. Mully (on the Score) just asked Levine point blank about all the uncertainty with the Cubs money and fans thinking they're going for Harper and blah blah. He basically answered that they've all been trying hard to get a read on it from the Cubs as far as whether the money will be there and nobody can get an accurate read (I'd consider that uncertainty a good thing compared to the way it was being reported a month ago). Went on to say a bunch of stuff we know (i.e. Harper is interested in a big city and loves Chicago so they will always be considered players until they're not, and that that's also why the Sox might have a chance if he finds their young core attractive enough). As much of a moron as Levine seems to be about actual baseball, he has always seemed pretty plugged in to me, so I was glad he didn't shoot it down, at least.
  12. That was great reporting by Darnell Mayberry. GarPax should be out on their asses too, but the firing makes more sense now. What did the article say? listed a few examples of players (even bottom of the roster garbage guys) getting away with blatant insubordination in front of the team (like g league guys dropping f bombs on him). the players just had no respect for him whatsoever (or at least showed none).
  13. after nocode, wetbutt23, and purple fanta shirt guy, i'm not gonna entirely dismiss the idea that charles the cat might know someone that tells him stuff
  14. not saying he will (and it's a long time ago), but didn't he do exactly that with albert belle (and, for that matter, on an AAV basis, michael jordan)? either way, he's not going there.
  15. He's a real person, also a professional photographer. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there are a lot of real people who are professional whatevers who aren't verified. Where do you get the idea that he's verified?

  17. No, this interim coach is Jim Boylen, different from the Jim Boylan that was interim head coach 10 years ago. Is this the worst run organization in pro sports? 6 championships the last 28 years, best record in the league with Rose recently, got rid of Butler at the right time, drafted pretty well for where they were at, and have been at the top of league attendance total for years. Weren’t winning in the East with LeBron. The Bulls have a solid core right now too. yeah. i don't love paxson, but i think he's about replacement level, maybe even a little above. they've had some pretty good draft picks throughout his tenure. did a good job making the best of striking out on the big guys in 2010. etc. nothing you can really do about not being able to luck into a generational talent, and i firmly believe that that part of building an nba team is almost entirely luck driven. i'd rather have someone smarter and more analytically minded running the basketball operations, but i really don't see him as a disastrously bad executive like some are portraying him as. i know there've been some procedural missteps though and stuff like that. edit - somehow glossed over the 6 championship mention in the quoted post. that's silly.

  19. I can’t remember how it resolved, but I know at one point there was talk of selling the Cubs and Wrigley separately. Is that how it went down? No.
  20. I thought this was reported this morning and then walked back?
  21. tom loxas lol where's that big budweiser bottle sign (like the coke bottle at at&t park) that wrigley was supposed to get
  22. Googled "Chicago Bears bar Austin, Texas" which yielded https://www.yelp.com/biz/bufords-backyard-beer-garden-austin-2 and https://www.yelp.com/biz/thirsty-nickel-austin?q=bears
