  1. That's what we've heard. On the other hand...money talks and everything else walks, right?
  2. Levine was just on with Salisbury and Rosenbloom. Rosenbloom was trying to rip the Cubs for only improving what he implied was an already strong offense (moron), and he went on to ask why the Cubs weren't interested in Zito or Schmidt. Levine said the Cubs felt Zito would be overpaid (probably by the Mets), but that they certainly are interested in Schmidt and suggested that they're going to try to get something done with Schmidt now that Soriano is done. Said there's a "good possibility" that we'll wind up with him. Just thought I'd pass on what I heard on the way in to work. EDIT - Forgot to mention that he said they'd like to work out something in the 3 year range with Schmidt.
  3. It's been confirmed for a while. Muskat first said they were coming back a few months ago. Bleh. At least, we don't have Nomar or Grudz anymore. That looked really, REALLY stupid. Not as stupid as PIERRE would look on the back of a jersey this year. Sooo freakin true...
  4. Is there any word on whether the Cubs still have (or ever did, for that matter) an offer on the table for Drew?
  5. Uh, I'm pretty sure it is...
  6. So..... the Red Sox will be needing a starting SS?
  7. On the other hand, while Drew is a very good, very productive hitter, Manny is and has been significantly more productive at the plate.
  8. I'm thinking there might be something to the whole theory that MacPhail was holding back our spending in the past because of the whole responsible spending in baseball idea that he was pushing... I guess we'll see in the next few weeks.
  9. In another thread--maybe the rotoworld rumors thread, not sure--there was talk about Murton possibly being used in drawing Westbrook from Cleveland. If they're shopping Murton as trade bait, then we'll likely end up settling for Soriano/Drew/Jones. The problem with trading Murton is, he'll probably be undervalued on the market. I hope they don't wind up shipping him off, if that's the case, if only because we won't get a fair return. Oh well, I could live with Soriano, Drew, Jones.. :)
  10. Which, admittedly, probably bodes well for his future. If he really did make an adjustment that turned some things around for him, he could be one of those guys that got by on raw talent, but never really figured it out, and then turns it around in his early 30's, ala Sosa and his change in approach in 98 (possible steroid use aside). Holy long sentence. Anyway, I can hope, right?
  11. Wow... It looks like they're actively pursuing both Drew and Soriano at the same time. Doesn't seem like either is a backup plan to the other. The thought of a Murton/Drew/Soriano outfield makes me happy...
  12. Why are we just matching the offer? Outbid them, Jim. 3/48.. Do it, do it.
  13. Probably not a whole lot. They were willing to let him go for free off waivers a couple years ago.
  14. Planning to trade Jones? Apparently, the other night on Sports Central, Kaplan said not to expect Jacque to be on the team come opening day.
  15. How about between Drew and Soriano and Manny and Soriano? I think I'd have to go Manny because of his much better bat, although Drew's likely lower salary, younger age, and superiority in the field would make it a little harder of a decision than it seems.
  16. Manny and Drew woudl be a bigger one. :)
  17. I really like the sound of that. Stiff competition from the Cubs... Is this for real??!
  18. The Braves must have asked for Chris Young instead.
  19. Peavy's health is a concern. The padres value Chris Young more than they do with Peavy. Yes, but you need more than 1 good pitcher to win and I honestly doubt they value Young over Peavy. Who is the one being traded? That's some of the worst logic I've ever seen.  He's right. It's terrible logic. You can't say he's valued less than Young just because there are rumors that Peavy is about to be traded, aside from the fact that there are a million other factors at play.
  20. The human element is the players playing the game. I can't see why people would celebrate the failure of arrogant umps as "part of the game". My thoughts exactly.
  21. He got hurt doing cartwheels in the outfield before a game. Ranks right up there with the Sammy sneeze and Jose Cardenal not being able to play because the crickets were too loud the night before and he couldn't sleep. hahahhaha WFT? I've never heard that one.
  22. Depends. If he truly has turned the corner in his career, with his new stance and approach, he's definitely not mediocre. Not with the numbers he put up last year. If it was a fluke, yes, he's mediocre. Either way, paid too much for a guy who is at best going to put up an average Todd Walker year.
  23. Assuming for a second that what you said actually makes sense, what the hell does it mean? Hendry appears willing and ready to go out and pick up as much trash as possible. The first drop in the bag being DeRosa. DeRosa isn't exactly trash. Did we ovepay? Yes. "Trash", however, is a label best reserved for guys like Neifi Perez and Jose Macias.
  24. Um, no you didn't. A trade is not a signing. That too.
  25. Sorry, nobody is going to convince me that trading David Aardsma for Neal Cotts is anything above a "meh" move. Go ahead and try, .
