    People keep saying this, but how can you trade Stroman and say with a straight face that you’re still trying to compete when you’re already using an opener every fifth day? Unless they immediately turn around and trade for another starter, I don’t see it, even given Stro’s recent struggles.

    They have been winning at a nearly .600 clip since the start of June. 24 of their remaining 58 games are against bad teams. Of the remaining 34, 9 are against Atlanta and Toronto who are, I think, clearly superior.. The other 25 are against teams like Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Arizona, and San Francisco that the Cubs should consider themselves on equal footing with. There’s every reason to believe they can/should play above .500 the rest of the way.

    He’s pitched 3 out of the last 4 days, though, and threw 23 pitches last night. If I’m David Ross, I’m doing everything possible to avoid using him tonight.

    It’s still taking some getting used to hearing North Side Baseball referenced by other media outlets. Last week BN referenced one of Matt’s articles. Right now they’re discussing this Mariners idea on the Score. It took a couple decades, but this place is finally earning some credibility around town!

    Oh God, I can’t stand Benetti. He’s so annoying. ETA: that goes for college hoops too. When him and Dakich were paired together a few years ago I couldn’t stand to watch the Illinois games they called.
