  1. Why do you think that is? There have been plenty of teams with 2 hitters like Cedeno and Izturis that have made the playoffs even in the last 5 years-the trick is what you surround hitters like that with. That's the rub. The rest of the lineup isn't close enough to being that good that it would take quite a retooling to bring it to that level. Much easier to get an offensively competent middle infielder.
  2. Well, that was just a rough lineup and Pie would be there eventually, but right now Pagan is a better player. Pie could use one more year at Iowa. Better to fill the position cheaply with Pagan than paying 6-7 million per year to bring Pierre back. Agreed that Pagan would be better than Pierre. IMO, I don't think it'd be necessary to give Pie another year in Iowa, but if we have another CF like Pierre on opening day, I'd prefer Pie in AAA rather than the Major League bench.
  3. Nicely done Cesar. He did the same thing in the first AB but it was right at Bay.
  4. A couple things: 1) Izturis leading off would be a nightmare 2) I'd rather just put Pie in CF than put Pagan there.
  5. Kanye West hates walks. Jesus Walks. I bet Jesus' OBP is through the roof! hahahahaha
  6. Can you explain IsoP to me? Thanks IsoP = SLG - AVG Basically a ratio extra bases per at bat. For example, if a guy goes 11 for 30 with 3 doubles, then he'll have a .367 AVG and a .467 SLG. If another guy goes 8 for 30 with 3 doubles and a home run, he'll have a .267 AVG and a .467 SLG. Even though it's obvious the second player hit for more power, they have identical SLG. However, if you look at IsoP, you can see the first player (.100 IsoP) is less powerful than the second (.200).
  7. I really don't know much about Kanye West besides the fact that he's a rap artist....the comparison didn't seem too bad to me. It didn't, but I'd kill to see the thought process that brought Jeff Francoeur to mind as he was at a Kanye West concert. On second thought, I'd just like to see Bob Brenly at a Kanye West concert. Ronnie, the comarison was they were both local boys that came home. Kanye a Chicago native playing at Lollapalooza, Francoeur an Atlanta native who made the Braves.
  8. In the first inning I saw a 91 and another low 90's fastball on that gun, FWIW.
  9. Restovich has earned a chance to be up with the Cubs, but with Dusty and company they would never play him. He would just rot on the bench as he did for his short period he was up in the beginning of the season. But then again he's not even on the 40 man roster. He could have it back if he could beat Negron or Bynum in the 50 yard dash.
  10. In case you aren't paying attention, Brenly just equated Kanye West to Jeff Francoeur.
  11. That's pretty impressive considering how much season is left. Maybe because there haven't been any hurricanes rolling through?
  12. If you ask me Murton can put up the same kind of numbers Catalanotto can. They are very similar players. Both players will have a high OBP, hit around .300, and they both will hit for the same kind of power numbers. Why not let Murton have the LF job? Dosent make sense to sign a player the Cubs already have. Because in all likelihood he won't put up numbers as good as Catalanotto. EDIT: Furthermore, getting that production virtually guaranteed (while Murton is more likely to vary) also goes a long way in building the rest of the line.
  13. Hamilton will have to repeat his dominance at Low A to be something, he turned 22 a week ago. Roth is a 23 year old that dominated Low A, not that high of an accomplishment.
  14. But going 2 for 3 with a homer, walk, and 2 RBI is enough to get Pagan benched?
  15. Power is more than home runs. Murton hasn't shown the ability to hit for a very high IsoP at any point in his minor league career. Therefore it's probably asking a bit too much that he suddenly develop more power, considering he was a college draftee that wasn't young for his levels
  16. I get what your saying. And I side with you on the occassions in 2003 when Baker could have taken Prior out of games sooner. Is that what your getting at? Or would you had rather him shut him down? There would have been a meltdown if they would have shelved Prior in late 2003. They didn't have to not pitch him at all, just not throw him 120+ pitches at every opportunity.
  17. Understandable, but sometimes players make dumb decisions. Especially considering it's the first time he's played 2B in quite some time, I'm not going to indict Ronny for making a mistake.
