  1. Jones v. RHP: .310/.357/.528/.884 Murton v. LHP: .302/.383/.457/.840 There's nothing being sacrificed with that platoon, only production gained. I don't like it in RF though, I'd prefer Jones moved to LF rather than Murton coming to RF.

  10. There was certainly a correlation last year - Beltran got off to a terrible start and ended up having a mediocre (for him) season. He also played with an injury through a great portion of the season.
  11. I take it you were up in arms when Sosa beat McGwire for the MVP in 1998, then? I was 11, so I don't think I really had much of an educated opinion.
  12. If it were harder, then we'd probably see marked differences in performance when players go from one to the other. I think you do see that. Look at the stats of Edgar Renteria where he had 30 errors with Boston and only 11 so far this year. AROD in NY has how many errors at 3rd base. You can't tell me the fans getting on him isn't pressure? What City other then NY would boo AROD as much as they have? Cory Patterson feeling the heat last year? So Renteria was impacted by the pressure but he's not anymore? What about Beltran going from KC to NY? There's no correlation there for performance.
  13. They might not pick up the option, but considering their pitching situation I have a hard time believing they won't make any attempt to bring him back. Mussina seems to be the anti-Maddux. Two years running he's put up great first halves and then gone to crap after the All-Star break.

  20. The thing that upsets me about the new clock rules is the inconsistency. If you punt the ball out of bounds, then the clock still starts up when the offense takes the field. Completely contrary to all other situations. I don't have a problem with it on returned punts/kickoffs/interceptions/fumble recoveries, or even fair catches. But when the ball goes out of bounds, the clock stops, it's a simple concept.

  22. What makes Pierre's hot streak a sign of things to come and his stretch of terrible play the aberration? What makes what he's doing sustainable? It appears to me he's not doing anything differently, just a hot streak where he hits for a higher average. That's what happens to players like Pierre, their value is so tied to average that they are prone to extreme swings in either direction. Pierre has shown with his total performance through his career that he's going to be poor offensively on the whole.
