  1. Conveniently both his free agent contract years. So did he conveniently get plunked last year? Interpret as you wish, this guy can turn it on or off like a light switch. He's that talented. I don't believe in clutch, but this guy's as non-clutch as ARod's portrayed to be. His knees are damaged goods. I don't see him even coming close to 3/4 of a season if he plays centerfield. I think the reason he wants to play CF is because it's easier on the body.
  2. He throws hard, has good stuff and put up pretty good numbers this year. I agree that he's not one of the top 5 pitching prospects in the minors, but he was probably the Tigers' best trading chip this offseason. He's certainly more valuabe than Wuertz He put up good numbers in AA, but he was 23, and he was mediocre when he got promoted. McKamey's prospect book says he has a decent fastball that runs 88-92 mph, with a similar caliber curve and lesser change. BA had a more optimistic report on his stuff, but added he had sketchy mechanics at times and his conditioning was an issue. He may have been the Tigers' best trading chip, but he doesn't seem like that fantastic a prospect. Similar to Nolasco last offseason, actually.
  3. I'm not seeing what's so great about Sanchez. He's the top prospect they gave up?
  4. I am surprised not too many are mentioning this. Because it's not particularly true, especially since he's left St. Louis.
  5. They need it, they're way down this year. Tom Izzo is still their coach, they will be fine. I'm sure they won't humiliate themselves(mainly due to Izzo), but they really need the influx of talent their '07 class will get them, unless Morgan is a lot better than I thought. When Drew Neitzel is expected to carry the scoring load... Tom Izzo = Overrated. There are at least 3 coaches better than him in the Big 10. Bruce Weber, Thad Matta, and Bo Ryan are all better than Izzo. It wasn't hard for him to win when he had so much talent there in the past. Now that the talent level at MSU is more on par with other teams in the Big 10 we will see how good of a coach he is. Bringing in the talent is half the job. Every player Izzo's ever recruited that didn't go pro early has made the Final 4. The last couple years all the early entries caught up to him, especially the stupid and unexpected ones like Taylor and Lorbek. Like I said, I don't expect big things this year, but teams probably need to get their shots in now with the '07 class he brought in.
  6. He takes some very esoteric routes to flyballs out there in right... He's the worst defensive outfielder in the game.
  7. Or we could just keep Pie and play him in RF if we need to play Drew in CF. Get a 2B and be done with the offense for the winter.
  8. So what is Boras's position then? Why does he think he can get Matsuzaka back on the market at age 29 for the real payday? Because you're guaranteed at least similar money in arbitration, and if Matsuzaka has success he may parlay it into a longer, even more lucrative contract than the one he'll be negotiating now. And to answer Tree, I'm pretty sure you can put a clause to make someone an early free agent, although I'm not 100% sure. I think I remember hearing about an instance of that happening though.
  9. They may pay it if Matsuzaka agrees to a low-ball contract. Many people were predicting a 5/50 deal for Matsuzaka with a 20 million posting fee. In essence, 5/70 or 14 million a season for him. The Red Sox may have bid 45 million, but only plan to offer him a 5/25 contract or a 5/30 contract. The total cost would roughly be the same. They may feel it's worth the risk. I have heard a few times Boras is going to want 3 years max on the contract. So a $45 million posting fee is more difficult to justify when the agent's position and starting point is known to be 3 years. Remember, whoever wins the bidding has Matsuzaka's rights for 6 years, regardless of the contract he signs.
  10. I think that's partially a function of the Cavs having a really good night shooting. LeBron's so good that you have to collapse when he gets penetration, and letting Gooden and Ilgauskas take 20 footers is a shot you'll take the majority of the time. Unfortunately for the Bulls, Ilgauskas, Gooden, and even Varejao were knocking down those shots even when a man closed out on them, so there wasn't much they could do.
  11. The blue alternates are fine, I think we should use the BP Navy Blue as a Sunday jersey too.
  12. That's the same thing from last night, and it's still Sullivan. My bad, didn't see it. No sweat, it wasn't released until late last night. Re-reading the post, my tone was too harsh. Stupid Sullivan.
  13. That's the same thing from last night, and it's still Sullivan.
  14. Soriano Zito Schmidt Lee Mats :pukel: I have no idea what this is. It's the board of FA's that the BBTN guys put up on Sportscenter. I wasn't even really paying attention and about 5 times I stopped and thought "hey, what he just said is completely false". That's what I get for not flipping over after the Rutgers-Louisville game.
  15. I have a hard time buying Michigan as the consensus #2, especially if OSU handles them. eh, their only loss would be to the #1 team in the country. Same with Texas. If USC beats Notre Dame, then the two teams have similar best wins(Notre Dame v. Oklahoma) too.
  16. I have a hard time buying Michigan as the consensus #2, especially if OSU handles them.
  17. Can we get a preemptive split? The pitching wins stuff isn't related to Drew.
  18. Drew, Durham, Daisuke, and another SP. Too bad none of them start their names with D.
  19. Link. Hendry is an incompetent, idiotic, unqualified colossal failure of a general manager who has done less with more than any GM in Cub history. To say you have no plans to meet with the agent of the most important player you may or may not sign this winter is ignorant and foolish. We will never win a world series with Jim Hendry as GM. It's Sullivan.
  20. Nomar 2004 81 games played 2005 62 2006 122 Drew 2004 145 2005 72 2006 146 And like was mentioned, Drew's injury in '05 was a broken bone in his hand, that doesn't exactly lend itself to future problems. Compare that to Nomar, who ripped his groin away from the bone.
  21. could be, which would be a shame. If that happened, I would hope for a total clusterhump in the SEC plus Cal beating USC, USC beating ND, and Texas losing the Big XII game. Then you'l have a bunch of TWO loss teams to sort through (or open the door for Boise St., though they'll never get love from the pollsters) In order for that you need OSU or Michigan to lose this week and in their matchup.
  22. West Virginia is gonna beat Rutgers.
  23. haha, kid sprinting off the field loses his hat, runs back for it, then continues high-tailing it off the field
  24. haha, Ito points to the sky cam
  25. I know. This is why we need a Mizzou game at night on ESPN. I'm convinced our fans suck. Even if we had a game like this, we for some reason beyond explanation would probably not sell out and at least half the crowd would be extremely apathetic during the game. Man our fans just suck. I'm sick of the excuses too from the idiots on Tigerboard. I think it might be fun if we had a game start after noon. Maybe.
