  1. Then what do you base your opinon on, their astrological signs? I knew I'd get a smarmy remark in about 15 seconds. I apologize for not basing my entire baseball opinion on numbers. So does every manager and coach in professional sports. BTW, when did I attack anyone in this thread previous to your reply? What DO you base your opinion off of then? State your case instead of just saying "Numbers, I don't like them". And tangentially, which is going to be more flawed, a defensive metric, or your recollection of all 30 teams defense/individual defensive reputation?
  2. Yep. Oh, and yes - our defense is crappy. There's Lee...and...that's about it. Can't follow you there. We were 6th in defensive efficiency in '06, and 13th in '05 and '04.
  3. Because Helton is very good at baseball.
  4. I doubt this will make any difference whatsoever. Its not so much on when they choose their gameplan, but what they gameplan their plays to be. And we'll see their ability to execute on Sunday. I suppose. Wasn't there a player who never showed for the actual game last time the Super Bowl was in Miami? I'll always worry about that kind of stuff. Young guys, on top of the world---temptation can derail someone double quick. Barrett Robbins. He had a very serious mental illness.
  5. Just quickly glancing at this, it seems like he looks at who has super-prospects close to the majors and judges entire systems based on that. Who does KC have besides Gordon and Butler? Who do the Yankees have besides Hughes? Both these systems, while strong at the top, are quite thin in terms of depth Luke Hochevar Chris Lubanski Zach Greinke Mitch Maier Justin Huber Tyler Lumsden Billy Buckner KC has a much better farm system than we do Hochevar hasn't pitched above A ball, Greinke's no longer a prospect, and Lumsden, Buckner, and Maier are all varying levels of meh. Lubanski looks like a solid prospect and Huber can rake(though I think he's been a hot prospect for about 31 years) though. Hochevar pitched in the AA playoffs. Was great one game and meh the other, that said we all think Jeff ND is a great prospect and in all reality he isn't anywhere near what Luke is. Agreed, I was speaking in the "near the major leagues" context of the previous posts when talking about Hochevar.

  7. Big game for Mizzou too. Pulling out a win in Manhattan and beating Nebraska at home gets us back to .500 and probably in the top half of the conference standings. If nothing else I hope the rematch has more flow, the near 60 foul, ~75 free throw fest was painful to watch.
  8. How many dunks are UNC and Arizona going to get in the half court? That's at least 5 in the first 9 minutes, and I've been watching IU-Michigan mostly. Speaking of IU-UM, Indiana is blowing them out.
  9. I thought the exact same thing. They just added a bit of bulk to some left over Jafar figurines.
  10. Michigan's a paper tiger, that game won't be in doubt. MSU goes to Columbus today, hopefully they can make a game of it.
  11. It's also mind numbingly boring to not compete against an opponent all year.
  12. I hate hate hate hate hate hate this argument.
  13. haha, wasted wolf still pulls out a Big Lebowski reference
  14. First of 3 consecutive sellouts at the Arena. Should be a fun atmosphere, hopefully Mizzou plays for a full 40 minutes at home.
  15. That might be mitigated by 55+ starts of Zambrano and Marquis though. zambrano's home runs are nice, but somewhat mitigated by the fact that he hit .151 and drew one walk last season. plus marquis hit 179/210/256 last year. i dont think they're mitigating much. Based on their careers, both of them should be significantly better at the plate next year than they were last year. career lines z=212/223/355 marquis marq= 223/241/316 I'm not saying that both of them are .700 OPS locks, but if I'm not mistaken even those lines are a good bit better than the average SP.
  16. I'm not a statistics expert, but don't trend lines need to have the same amount of data points on either side of them? That would mean the trend line leads straight through the 79 win season, sloping upward.
  17. You wouldn't want to experiment with him playing QB, but the Super Bowl is as good a game as any to throw a player like Hester into an offensive play or two. William Perry endorses this message That's not the same. Perry had already been used on offense several times during the regular season, so it's not like they were experimenting in the Super Bowl. Hester has been used on offense this season too. When? I know at least in the Tampa game(I only remember because Barber jumped his slant route and almost got a pick). That might've been the only game though, since I don't think he got any actual touches against TB.
  18. Gotta be Izturis. He's awful, he plays everyday, there's no clear cut person to replace him if/when he performs awfully. Oh, and he's making ~5 million too.

  20. Wood is so pissed about potentially being a relief pitcher that he signed a contract with a bunch of bonuses based on games finished. That'll show 'em, they make me a reliever, I'll take more of their money!
  21. That might be mitigated by 55+ starts of Zambrano and Marquis though.
  22. I will lose my mind if Wuertz doesn't start the year in Chicago. The Cubs are nowhere near good enough to go about sending their best reliever to AAA just for giggles.
  23. Thanks Bruce. Any news on if the Cubs are eating the remainder of his contract or if there is some settlement on the matter?
