One of the reasons Wrigley is such a great place is that when you get to your seat, you just see baseball. No ads(signs by the bleacher entrance or behind home plate don't really affect this), no jumbotrons, just the field. Now they're making Wrigley a parody of itself. This sucks. At least it's just the simple logo painted on. -

I was always a fan of Ryu, but he's not going to be significantly better than Marquis. Because he has a deep repetoire he might have some initial success, but his stuff isn't dynamic enough anymore to maintain it. What did PECOTA/CHONE/etc project for the rookies from last year?

that loss could hurt k-state. Nebraska? Barring another upset loss, they're still on track for 10 conference wins in all likelihood. Unless they get bounced in the B12 tourney or mess up the ISU, Colorado, or Oklahoma games(possible, but also possible for them to beat KU or OSU) they should be in decent shape. EDIT: I can't believe Maric went for 40 on KSU.

Welcome to the Big 12. 3 games today with the underdog winning all of them, including Tech winning @ aTm on a Jackson game-winner. Mizzou hosts Baylor tomorrow, I'm sure they'll lose in some inexplicable fashion.

He's an ace. If you're trying to get in the playoffs and win a championship, any responsible GM should try and get a pitcher of Zambrano's caliber if he is available and you have the resources to do so. Did the Cubs NEED maddux after 2003? No, but Hendry felt he would put us over the top. Maddux only cost money. Zambrano will cost money(probably twice as much as Maddux did) and several other players of significant value.

Drafted in the 8th round because of LBSU commitment, signed for 3rd round money "Not only did he hit .325 in his pro debut, but he also raked against older pitchers during instructional league, where he reminded veteran scouts of Magglio Ordonez." "Lopez has a line-drive stroke and quick wrists that should allow him to clear fences consistently in the future. He tends to get a bit upright in his stance at the plate, and while he has a good eye he can do a better job of making contact. While his baserunning ability is fringe average, he has good range and plus arm strength in right field."

And who is going to give the Cubs that type of package for only one year of Zambrano? Someone confident enough that they could resign him. So someone with loadsof cash... Yankees, Boston, Mets Problem is that none of those 3 teams really have that package, and even then they aren't going to part with it without an extension in hand. Teams will just wait out the situation and bid extravagantly in November. The time when it was feasible to trade Zambrano has come and gone.

How do you know this? That would be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to ST. Hopefully we'll see Gooz dominate and move into the big league rotation. To emphasize, Oneri said during the convention that Guzman's curveball is back. They gushed about him and seemed to believe the stuff he had pre-injury was returning. And yet they signed Jason Marquis for the next three years. Lest they repeat the history of "If Prior is healthy/if Guzman's stuff is really back". -

Why? Have you ever done it? I think it is careless to dismiss it as a minor issue. The role of the catcher is very important to the whole process of pitching. They serve a larger purpose than just somebody to catch the ball. Rothschild does not call the pitches. Pre-game meetings and gameplans are important, but the P and C are pretty much on their own once the game begins. I never said to dismiss it, but it's way over emphasized. I think it's even more careless to insinuate that the P and C are on an island during the game, especially if the tandem isn't having success.

I've seen every Cub catcher since Rothschild has been around look to the dugout with regularity. And even beyond that, Rothschild is the one who develops the plan(albeit in conjunction with the players) for how they want to pitch each hitter. The ability to "call a game" is overblown.

Rereading this thread for the IU/Illinois talk and saw this for the first time. My eyes lit up. Surely he's got to be done for the season, right? Why in the hell would you subject yourself to that? Well, I'm kinda on the fence with how I feel about cancer, so I thought it might help me decide.

Nope. Worse, actually. If you say so. I will give you the fact he was bad with the bat, but his defensive abilities and the way he called a game is one of the reason the cubs made the playoffs that year. I dont consider him to be that bad of a player. Rothschild calls the game.

I had that game on but wasn't paying that close attention, and I heard the crowd not being pleased at all with the way things went at the end of the first half. It seemed to be no-calls that were getting people upset, I'd rather have that than a foul more than once a minute.
