  1. Brandon Phillips is the dumbest hitter alive. 9 straight balls and he swings at a bad pitch to fly out.
  2. Agreed. This ain't Matt Karchner people. CC would clearly make the Cubs the favorites to win the World Series. Whether they make it or not is besides the point. The Cubs didn't have a realistic shot to win it all last year. With CC they would. You have to do what it takes to get that. Same here. I was a little apprehensive because I hadn't seen that monthly split, but now I'm definitely sold. Do what it takes, Pie, Hill, Gallagher, whatever.
  3. Against LHP, the biggest bat is either Blanco or Cedeno. There's not a huge difference between them, not enough to outweigh the benefit of resting Soto's legs at least, especially considering Cedeno's reverse split.
  4. Sure you can, it's not like if the one gets hurt you can't move the other there. You lose the DH in that case. Look up.
  5. Sure you can, it's not like if the one gets hurt you can't move the other there. You can, but it doesn't make sense. Sure it does. You rest Soto's legs to keep him fresh. The downside is you deal with Blanco's bat(although over a couple games there's not a super difference between him and Cedeno), and if by some tragedy Blanco is hurt, you move Soto to catcher. Considering that Starting pitchers only hit about 2-3 times a game before being removed for pinch hitters, the risk is that in the unlikely occasion that Blanco gets hurt, you may have to deal with hitting with your pitcher a couple ABs. That's far from a terrible situation, especially considering one of our starters is OPSing nearly .900 while another leads the league in sacrifices, and definitely worth the benefit of keeping Soto from wearing down.

  7. I thought he sprained his finger. Is it much worse than earlier reports? The initial reports were that it might be ruptured, then it came out that he sprained it, which is very vague. Will Carroll seemed to indicate that it's ruptured, and even if it's not, I read the best case scenario is he's out for a month
  8. Yeah, that extra player is a big difference. Maybe moving the champion up to the top of the draft order?
  9. Ludwick's OPS has dropped nearly 175 points in the last 2 weeks. Wellemeyer got hurt just as he went past an IP threshold he hasn't seen since the Lugnuts were a Cub affiliate. Lohse faded in May, Looper was and continues to be terrible, and Piniero is hurt. And now their only legitimate starter is probably done for the season. I guess Jaime Garcia could come up and be good, but the odds are decidedly against that happening right away.
  10. Stop going to WSI. Don't you like yourself?
  11. There had been some discussion as to whether we should go to 4 keepers, or maybe let the champion keep a 4th player, although not much consensus. What do we think? I don't really have a preference, although like IMB brought up when he pitched the idea, having some motivation to be the champion seems like a good idea.
  12. It is. How? They will just bring someone else up that will pitch just as well. And if he doesn't becuase Wainwright is their only legit starter, the rest of the team will still fluke their way into winning ball games. Net effect on the Cubs: 0 It would've been easier if you had said something irrational like "the Cardinals are going to win 100 games no matter who's on the roster" to begin with.
  13. The most practical solution would be Patterson. He's on the 40(Kroeger's not), he's hitting well(Pie's not), he's left handed(Murton's not), he's healthy(Ward's not), and he's eligible to be called up(Hoffpauir's not).
  14. Edmonds has a .265/.321/.449/.770 line as a Cub.
  15. ha ha ha ha
  16. He's having a down year, I'm hoping he picks up his K rate. His usage has been pretty erratic too. Just recently he had 1 outing in 7 days, then was used 4 straight games, and now has had 6 days off. Maybe giving him a more "routine" role could help jumpstart him, especially since we have Lieber and Hart right now to pitch in long relief.
  17. BR.com Preview Amazing what a couple losses and an off day can do to rest the pen. Hart, Lieber, and Eyre all have 3 days rest, and Wuertz hasn't pitched since the Truman administration. How's about we bring back the extra bat now instead of waiting for the DH to get here?
  18. Duncan's defense in LF leaves you to wonder if he's facing the plate or the bleachers when the pitch comes in.
  19. Jim Edmonds as The Todd was an angle I had not considered before.
  20. Sweden has a decent shot at advancing. Spain is the class of that group, but any of the remaining three could take the 2nd spot. Here are the rosters for the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 AC Milan teams. Maybe Shevchenko?
  21. Nice, Coleman was one that might've been a tricky sign.
  22. He left his last start with a finger injury. Rumor now is that it's similar to what Joel Zumaya had, a ruptured tendon. Zumaya needed surgery and missed 4 months, so if it's the same for Wainwright, he'd be done for the year.
  23. If you're equating Mike Wuertz to Rafael Betancourt, you're a fool. Tyler Colvin will not be missed, yet another Cubs 1st round bust. Wilken needs to go. They're not so different that it's worth trading one for the other and us adding one of the few commodities we have in the lower levels of the farm system right now. Our bullpen isn't in that bad of shape. Betancourt could be damaged goods anyways, it looks like that career high workload last year has worn him down.
