  1. Good to see Cashner stay effective even with all those walks.
  2. Why would Scutaro come cheap? He's got an .824 OPS and is playing a good defensive SS.
  3. I heard that Seattle got Wilson and Snell for prospects on the radio, and thought that was pretty shrewd. Now that I see the haul I like it a lot less for Seattle, but it's a really interesting idea that Jack Z is implementing. I hope he sells off Washburn to see what the return will be.
  4. Why do you think Seattle leads the AL in ERA? I'm guessing people didn't suggest Morgan because we have each outfield spot locked into an 8 figure contract at the moment. He's also not all that young, so there's probably nowhere to really go but down. Doesn't change what he's done this year, but it affects whether or not he's worth pursuing in trade.
  5. Mark Teahen is about as viable a 2B option as Jake Fox.
  6. There's no way he doesn't improve upon that .266 BABIP against RHP.
  7. Or Towers is putting the blame on Hendry for making a sane decision after it came out Towers wanted three dozen players for Peavy.
  8. I can't read it(ESPN Insider), but a summary I've read says Gammons is reporting that MLB is threatening to take away the All-Star Game from Kansas City if they don't withdraw their offers to 2009 draftees Aaron Crow and Chris Dwyer, because they are (apparently significantly) over slot. If that's true, that is a pretty disgusting move on MLB's part.
  9. Gregg has less knee trouble when he comes in at some point after warming up. If it's better for his knee to throw 5 pitches at the end, I have no problem with it.
  10. Now there's a Boston Globe article that says the Indians were the ones who turned down Martinez for Buchholz.
  11. Umm, why? 5.48 ERA 1.40 Whip 134 hits in 112 innings. BAA of .300 Right hand hitters OPS'ing almost .900 against him. He sucks http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/potential-trade-deadline-bargain-carl-pavano He's got an over 4 K/BB, but he's been unlucky with BABIP and home runs.
  12. no, you just dont understand value very well lol @ nyjer being worth 3 times as much as dunn this season and him being worth 22 million. hilarious I don't think you're understanding what's trying to be said with those dollar figures.
  13. Whitenack has been a big disappointment so far. I was expecting much better from him at lower levels like Boise since he's supposed to have a very good out pitch.
  14. UK, did you mean Fleita when you typed Minaya, or were you talking about the Mets? And I have a hard time grouping Watkins in with guys like Cliff Andersen when he's got a 1:1 K/BB ratio as a pro and is hitting .336/.401/.408 in Boise as an 18 year old.
  15. Whoa I dunno about that. I don't think I've ever seen an outfielder drop more routine flies or misplay as many balls as Soriano. How many routine fly balls have you seen Soriano drop?
  16. I'm not completely opposed to trading Bradley and his contract, but to turn around and add another big contract, for a player like Dunn who only adds value one way now and has old man skills, that is not a good idea. Now is the time to make the next Michael Barrett/Aramis Ramirez deal. Find someone about to break out and gamble on him, because you haven't lost anything over the current RF production if he flops, and he won't be a contract anchor. Someone like Hermida or Schierholtz or maybe even Clete Thomas.
  17. Even if you heavily regress UZR so that Dunn's like -10 and Morgan is +10, they have been close in overall value. For me, if you're looking for an UZR outlier that's being overlooked for his overall value, go with Franklin Gutierrez. Outstanding defense in CF and a .350 wOBA.
  18. I'd settle for Piniero realizing that he hasn't bought Brandon Webb's sinker on the voodoo market.
  19. I'm surprised they made that move with Jon Jay clogging things up.
  20. Duncan wasn't even on the MLB roster when he was dealt, trading him didn't open up any space in the outfield or even on the roster. I'm also really amused that the Nationals scout was at Tuesday's Memphis game, a rainout.
  21. Hawk's call of the last out is the funniest thing I've heard in quite a while.
  22. Probably Lake. Lee and Castro have pretty much been used exclusively at SS this season, but Lake's been all around the infield. Plus, when I saw him it looked like he still had some growing/filling out to do, which could merit a move to 2B or 3B full-time. To be fair, Lake is the only one who has played on a team with another guy who deserves some time at shortstop in Flaherty. Watkins is probably a legitimate shortstop.
  23. Things I didn't know before today: Victor Martinez turns 31 this offseason. I'm not too surprised. Martinez isn't great for a 1B, and if that's where he's headed then it's not a good idea to give up a premium arm like Buccholz when you can give up nothing and get the same thing from LaRoche/Lowell.
  24. He's 24 in AA and has a .785 OPS with pretty much zero power. I'm not sure how he is defensively, but if he's great as a CF then maybe he's a 5th OF.
