  1. Kenny Williams has 6 guys getting paid 8 figures as part of a long term deal, and 4 of them have no-trade protection. And most of them are not very good.
  2. Jackson is 1 for 2 with a SB, and LeMahieu is 2 for 2 with a SB thus far. Searle had nice K/BB and GO-FO numbers, but got hit pretty hard in 4 IP. Carpenter's 1st: K, 3-1 GO, PO-6
  3. Richmond McGee is just an awesome name. I'd hire a Richmond McGee without an interview.
  4. Okay, okay, I'll shoot Jersey and Keener.
  5. Where would you have played him? Probably wouldn't be worth what it would take to get him to make him just a PH. I don't know anything about Thompson, but it doesn't seem like much especially considering the Nats are paying his salary. Johnson would likely be much better than Hoffpauir for the rest of the season, and we'd have the inside track on bringing him back in free agency if we wanted.
  6. Yeah something tells me Chuck Wasserstom isn't the one with the biggest input into Cubs decision making. Okay? Just to review: Most anyone looking at Gorzelanny statistically would agree he's a pretty good buy low option. Someone with the knowledge of UK suggesting Gorzelanny's stuff is as good as it was in '07(his best MLB year), as well as saying that Gorzelanny and Rothschild are a good fit. Littlefield, who has a worthy reputation as a talent evaluator, drafted Gorzelanny, and recommended him after seeing him pitch recently. All of those mesh together. If you're afraid because of Littlefield's evaluation then you have to question all of those evaluations, and that's irrational.
  7. You play him like 50 games each at C/1B/DH, giving days off for the legit guys at those spots, and also spelling Lowell by moving Youkilis to 3B when they're both on the infield. Not sure if that's worth Buchholz, but it's how you'd maximize his value at this point.
  8. Yes. He has a body of work showing he's not some "good baseball man" who got by on reputation. And again, Littlefield's recommendation isn't going counter to any statistical evidence, or other scouting information available.
  9. Like I said, a label you can acquire and hold on to for life. The Peter Principle doesn't say that once you get promoted above your level of expertise and fail, you can then go back to the previous level and be a master. Hendry played a big part in building the Cubs farm system from nothing. But I wouldn't trust him in a million years to go back to that job. I think that's irrational or an attempt to be negative minded on your part. "He might not be good at it anymore" is a flimsy reason to be afraid of Littlefield's involvement, especially when we've got statistical indicators that Gorzelanny is a good pickup, plus someone like UK reporting that he has the same stuff he had in '07.
  10. The Peter principle. Littlefield wasn't good at balancing the information available to him to make decisions, and he wasn't the one watching the players. As a scout, he's the one evaluating the player in person, something he's much better at doing.
  11. Littlefield's involvement, which was obvious and unavoidable considering his history and current position, is probably the scariest part. Littlefield is a very good scout. Seems like a label you can just acquire and then hang onto the rest of your life as long as you stay in the business. He helped build the Expos of the early to mid-90s, and I believe the Marlins of the late 90s. He's shown he's not good at making the decisions, but he's good at helping those in charge with those decisions.
  12. Littlefield's involvement, which was obvious and unavoidable considering his history and current position, is probably the scariest part. Littlefield is a very good scout.
  13. I don't think the Cubs get anything for Grabow unless he gets signed before the arbitration deadline. He'd get like 3 million in arbitration, and that's too big a risk for the Cubs to take, or at least I hope they think so too.
  14. No, those 3 are actually not very different in what you can expect going forward.
  15. Alderson's only 20, and he's doing very well at AA already(no walks, no HR, not a ton of hits). If he can raise his K rate as he matures he'll be a very attractive player.
  16. Just think, not a single one of those guys was playing full season ball in May of last year. Now, 2 are at AA, 2 are at A+, and another should be at AA.
  17. Jackson is pitching like a man angry he got demoted: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 6/1 K/BB, HBP
  18. I don't think most of the people who would want to sell high on Wells is thinking so because they fear Rich Hill redux. If you think Wells is likely to regress, then you can capitalize on his value since you have several options who are decent options to be as good as future Wells(Marshall, Gorzelanny, even Samardzija/Cashner/Jackson). Problem is there's not many places on the roster to upgrade, so unless Wells goes in some package for Utley or something, there's not much risk of him getting dealt.
  19. If they let Gorzelanny have a shot that's fine too, either way I think it means more opportunities for Marshall since Lou won't be afraid to use him with another LH option in the pen. As good a pitcher as Marshall is, that's a plus for the staff.
  20. This is what I was hoping to hear. Gorzelanny is a guy whose MLB numbers should've been better given his minor league history, and hearing that his velocity/stuff is where it was during his best season(also the only season he showed some of the control he had in the minors) is encouraging as well. I like him very much as rotation depth going forward. Grabow when looking beyond a small sample seems to be reasonably effective against LH hitters, which is all I really need since Marshall will be upgrading the rotation and the rest of our pen is good enough to face all but the most platoony LH hitters. Grabow is also on track to be Type A, although he makes a bit too much to possibly risk getting stuck with him in arbitration.
  21. Carpenter to Tennessee according to Muskat. That's twice Muskat has been pretty early reporting a promotion this year. I recommend becoming a fan of the Cubs on Facebook, that's how I first learned about both the Vitters and Carpenter promotion.
  22. LeMahieu is older and has more experience at a high level than Watkins or Lee.
  23. Boise gets a run in the first on back-to-back-to-back bunt singles from Lee, Watkins, and Jackson, followed by a run scoring DP from Bour. Bizarre.
