  1. Sam Fuld is a better option for LF than Jake Fox.
  2. well, i guess i just disagree with this. and i'm not a huge derosa fan by any means. hope i'm wrong. Oh I know you've said that for a while, I'm just saying that going in to the season you were pretty alone in that sentiment, as there was both popular opinions and projections that said otherwise.
  3. I saw these 4 games brought up as close calls to pick. What do you guys think? Alabama v. Virginia Tech in Atlanta Oregon at Boise State Mizzou v. Illinois in St. Louis Georgia at Oklahoma State I'd go VTech, Oregon, Mizzou, and OSU.
  4. You thought he would hit .226/.299/.382 in a platoon situation?
  5. He's not getting nearly enough. He put this crap show together. And the media is focused on Bradley's personality. When you have a bunch of 30+ year olds with injury histories you can't blame a season on flukey injuries. They've had 2 guys underperform reasonable expectations. You have to assume some guys are going to struggle. What you can't do is pay superstar money to non-superstars and expect to cruise. He's spent a ton of money on this team and it's been a big waste. Fontenot, Miles, Gregg, Marmol, Soriano, Soto, Bradley, and that's without touching injuries. Soriano and Soto have performed below reasonable expectations, but you can't go into a season assuming you can avoid such things. And you can't touch the injuries because guys who gets injured a lot and are old got injured. Ramirez may have missed more time than expected, but Bradley played more than you could expect. If you insist on building the team as inefficiently as Hendry has done, you have to live with the consequences. You can't just say "well when these guys are all on the team is great". Gregg has done what he's usually done. Bradley has done what any reasonable person would hav expected. Marmol has been ridiculously wild and hard to hit, same as always. Miles sucks ass and never should have been signed. Soriano was a disaster waiting to happen, it just happened earlier than expected. If you talk in generalities it's easier to make it sound that way, but Hendry built a better team than this. The problem going in was that it wasn't going to be able to withstand injuries/underperformance as much as past teams, but still should've earned a playoff spot. Then this year happened and they got hammered with both injuries and underperformance on a large scale. Hendry didn't have a very good offseason, but with the way 2009 played out the Cubs simply weren't going to be great, and the only move going much further back than that is Soriano, so it's difficult to claim this is a situation of Hendry's moves catching up to himself.

  7. Is Oswaldo Sanchez his idol or something? What a tool, I'm glad the Sounders won after that and all the pregame grandstanding from the two teams.
  8. He walked on the 22nd. He's 1 for 25 with a .231 OPS since coming off the DL.
  9. Fukudome took a pretty big step forward. And Dempster wasn't nearly as bad as he could have been. Dempster's ERA Plus is worse than Z's. I am so tired of him getting a pass from people. Fangraphs has him with a 4.13 FIP before today, worth 10.6 million by WAR.
  10. OU is going to beat BYU by roughly 150 points. Gresham being hurt maybe drops it down to 145.
  11. I see them covering the spread, but I'd be a lot more inclined to pick an upset if the game weren't in South Bend. Still, Nevada can score points, I really hope they pull it off.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/geovany-sotos-sophomore-jinx/ In summary: Soto's batted balls aren't much different, he's actually been better with plate discipline, but he's been about 70 points of BABIP unlucky.
  13. Gameday scored it a 2B and FC for what it's worth.
  14. I swear Nagel starts for Boise like every other game. Coleman had a very nice outing for Tennessee, good to see him get 5 K's in 6 IP.
  15. Because Fontenot and Miles both tanked hard. If Fontenot had OPSed .750-.800 against RHP and Miles .600-.650 against LHP they would've been the same or better as DeRosa this year when you include defense. That's far from an unrealistic expectation in December. And the bullpen prospects that you're trying to talk down in value stand a good chance of making up 1/3 of the pen next year, and will provide a lot of value for cheap. And Archer isn't a reliever, he's more of a right handed Rich Hill in the low minors at this point.
  16. That's not even close to true. It's absolutely the truth and it still cracks me up that people deny this fact. Or they were trying to save money since there was speculation throughout that stretch that they were able to add Peavy if they could afford him. With the ownership situation what it was, every little bit counts. And beyond that, the idea that because Hendry misidentified DeRosa's replacement has any bearing on how good an idea it was to trade DeRosa is silly. Hendry got quite a good return for DeRosa, especially with the benefit of seeing how they've all performed this year.
  17. That's not even close to true.
  18. I don't want to start a new thread, but since my interest in fantasy football prior to this draft was at an all-time low, I'd appreciate some feedback. Some weird rules, 6 points per passing TD, and they accidentally added another starting spot at QB and TE. 12 teams. QB - Brady QB - Cutler RB - Chris Johnson RB - Lynch WR - Colston WR - A. Gonzalez WR - Coles/Ginn Flex - Larry Johnson TE - Cooley TE - Keller K - Folk DEF - New Orleans Bench QB - M. Sanchez RB - Rice RB - Mendenhall WR - Ginn/Coles WR - Henry TE - Scaife The WR are a little thin at the top, but I sacrificed that to get depth at RB and two strong QBs.
  19. Down 4 runs in the 6th = "right back in it" Down 5 runs in the 5th = probably hopeless?
  20. This serves as a reminder that picking a good GM is a pretty big crapshoot. Moore was very well regarded by smart and successful people alike, but he's been really bad in Kansas City.
  21. That is some really terrible logic. The DeRosa trade went from an okay one to a pretty good one given the performance of all 3 guys this season.
  22. Both those guys have strong numbers, but I don't think I'd rather have them than the chance of keeping Harden or getting 2 picks for him.
  23. I do not care, because I do not like AVG w/RISP. I do not like them in a house. I do not like them with a mouse. I do not like them here or there. I do not like them anywhere. He has played in 2 weeks worth of games. Like I said, if you think he's hurting, fine, let him rest up. Otherwise, let him hit through the slump.
  24. Soto was horrible for the first 6 weeks of the year. Like, I can't believe this is physically possible to hit this bad horrible. This is mostly due to what I'm going to call the worst luck on balls in play in the history of the world. Since then he's hit .235/.333/.454/.787. If you want to bench him because the Cubs are done and you think his body will wear down in the next couple weeks, fine. But if you want to bench him because you want to "send a message", or actually prefer Hill get the at bats down the stretch, then this is a really, really dumb decision.
