  1. Correct, Miggy lower in the order(especially against LHP) isn't new, but low enough that Russell passes him is a testament to Russell's hot streak and that it's Miggy's first game back(and against a LHP).
  2. Candelario appears to be on a mission to illustrate that Spring Training is meaningless in the most extreme way possible. He's trending towards a .600 OPS at Tennessee.
  3. at least the Pirates fans have the Locke v. Arrieta matchup to look forward to tomorrow
  4. [tweet]https://twitter.com/whygavs/status/731205105857531904[/tweet]
  5. Why does Orie getting charged with an error cost Wood a K? It doesn't impact any game state, the hitter is on base either way.
  6. none of this poor range nonsense, it was an error it was always an error and Kerry Wood has a no-hitter
  7. Prior to this year I had some hope that Ryan Williams and/or Markey would be the next version of Hendricks. Both have had crummy starts to their season to take a lot of the wind out of those sails. So he's not filler but you aren't going to see great velocity or killer secondary stuff either.
  8. That kind of explains the "last calendar year" bit. When he's healthy he hits. He's 36 and was slumping pretty hard for a month plus prior to the injury last year. Again, he's not a .700 OPS guy yet, but incredulity at the idea that he isn't considered an offensive machine isn't really well founded.
  9. I don't really think Holliday hitting in the middle of the order is a mistake, but it's an odd thing to plant a flag about. In the previous calendar year to that post he was hitting .236 /.332/.397, his offense declined from 2013 to 2014 to 2015, he's 36 and he missed time with injury last year to boot.
  10. Come on. He's got a .871 OPS with a .267 BABIP. Holliday [expletive] hits. At the time of that post he was hitting .235/.322/.431.
  11. Hammel definitely makes his offseason home in Eagleton.
  12. Russell has played 16 of 17 games, him not playing both games of a double header is fine. Optimizing playing time is more than plugging people in until their health meter says 'give them rest'.
  13. Is La Stella sick or nursing an injury? With a RH starting this game and a LH starting game 2, I figured he'd at least start this one.
  14. That's one way to get around decreased velocity, Ramirez. Throw exclusively sliders.
  15. North of 100 pitches, just gave up a baserunner (so pitching from the stretch), and the Padres best hitter due up who hadn't done poorly against Hendricks(1 for 3, no Ks). I like going to Strop there, I might have gone to a LHP for Wallace when it was clear Strop didn't have it, but that requires planning against Strop not getting either of the RHP out, and there's also still 11 more innings of baseball to play at least, so I get leaving him in.
  16. Did we conjure some sort of inverse monkey's paw that got passed from Fowler to Zobrist?
  17. We're still working on it, it doesn't make much sense to us either. We make sure to approve those all though so you don't have to worry about the posts not showing up. It just might take a few minutes until we can figure out what's going on.
  18. do these jokers think they're the Cubs or something?
  19. 2013 had the two best records and run differentials in the world series when Boston beat St. Louis.
  20. Hammel's gonna get his option picked up after all, isn't he
  21. It's been several years but I liked Sklarbro country when I listened to it. Definitely not as a baseball/sports podcast though, it was closer to a weird and funny version of Access Hollywood. I'm not much of a podcast listener, but I've had Effectively Wild recommended to me by someone who is(and is also a big baseball guy). TINO from the BP guys is another one that might be worthwhile though I can't personally speak to it.
  22. Not the Cubs, but I went to this Sox/Indians one in 2013 and it was one of my favorite live sporting event experiences: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA201306281.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA201306282.shtml 8 hours of baseball(plus a 30 minute rain delay on top of the break between games), 46 runs, it was awesome.
