  1. Scherzer and Strasburg pitched 21.2 of the 44 innings in this series, with a 1.26 ERA, and they still lost.
  2. I resisted the urge to pay for Wifi(which only would've stressed me out no matter what) and watched downloaded episodes of Narcos.
  3. I turned my phone off on the runway after the Baez rbi k, landed to watch the bottom of the 9th on gameday and I'm still exhausted after missing all that in between
  4. Oh you know what, I forgot about Martin. It's a lot easier to pinch hit Schwarber/Happ for Almora when you still have another defensive OF for later.
  5. Russell? I was gonna go with a slow pitch outfield, but sure I'll indulge your theory. EDIT: More seriously, so Russell 6th, Javy 7th, and Happ/Almora/Heyward 8th would seem like a decent guess.
  6. Jay, Bryant, Rizzo, Contreras, Zobrist seems like a lock for the top 5, for better or worse. None of them are getting yanked with a pitching change. Happ, Javy, and Almora seem like logical starts, but I'm not sure what order to put them in. Happ is the worst of the 3 against LHP but the one you are likely to leave in at the plate given that he's a better hitter from the left side. He's also the most likely to get pulled defensively. Almora has strong defense and kills lefties, but do you want him 6th when he might only get 1 shot at Gio?
  7. Playoff Joe makes decisions that are logical and designed to get the best people in the game for every situation. I don't always agree, but I appreciate that approach and thought process. Playoff Dusty makes decisions based on antiquated assumptions about what roles are supposed to be on a baseball team. They may end up working out but I will let Playoff Joe manage circles around Playoff Dusty any day. Eh; I think they're more like Two-Face's coin. Correct, one side is functional and the other is burned beyond recognition and useless.

  9. 5.3 IP/start is like 10th percentile for qualified starters, 5.6 IP/start is like 50th. And again, Kyle Hendricks' 2015 also looks like a guy who belongs at the end of a rotation. The fact that Hendricks took a stratospheric leap forward is not a positive thing for Montgomery, who lacks Hendricks' super-elite command(which leads to his soft contact and HR suppression that Montgomery has never demonstrated at any level). If you're talking about Torres, you can look back through 3 years of the minor league forum of me talking up Torres as overrated. He's probably not a shortstop, and he doesn't have a great hit tool, game power, or plate discipline. Just like Montgomery he's probably going to be a perfectly cromulent player, but those types of players are the ones that are freely available on the market every year. It's great when you can have them for cheap like the Yankees do and the Cubs do with say, Happ, but they are not pillars of future pennant winners.
  10. Don't use Q. Hendricks and Montgomery(and I guess Lackey) can get you 6 innings.
  11. Hendricks put up 3.5 in 180 IP at 25 y/o J Montgomery put up 2.7 in 150 IP at 24 He only had 150 IP because he averaged like 3 innings per start. Montgomery isn't garbage, but he's not Kyle Hendricks(who is an outlier of outliers). He's a guy you hope you don't need to start Game 4 of a playoff series.
  12. I land in Phoenix right around first pitch, and will get to watch for 60-90 minutes before getting on a flight home for the rest of the game. Please win Cubs, and especially don't take a lead while I can watch and then blow it while I can't.
  13. Gary Sanchez as a first baseman would have been tied for 11th among qualifying first basemen in wRC+ Greg Bird is a worse hitter than that and is definitely a first baseman Torres is going to be the definition of just another guy Frazier is ginger Almora Jordan Montgomery has more in common with Mike Montgomery than any core Cubs player you want to compare him to
  14. Strasburg in Game 1 First 2 trips through the order: 0 for 17, 9 K, BB Third: 3 for 8, 1 K
  15. Yeah he sucks, but I think he was kind of the perfect guy to bat there with Jake's control issues. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk In a world where the Nats have a competent manager you'd be facing Harper, who has plenty of patience but also the ability to hit.
  16. Even if it mattered, which it doesn't, what are the odds that is statistically correct? In one sense it is, that was the everyday lineup during the first half when they were killing the ball. Of course, it's the same 8 guys he's been playing, so he's implying that they'll be more productive with Werth getting more PA's for some reason.
  17. I don't mind the look at the entirety of US Soccer(because honestly what else is there to do), but I feel like there's a bit of an insinuation that missing the world cup was because of some talent problem and therefore we need to deepen the pool, make high level soccer more accessible, etc. Those are all noble goals that should be pursued, but they aren't why the US didn't qualify. Our back line, probably the weakest part of the team, has multiple starters from the EPL, Bundesliga, and Liga MX in the pool. They have the talent to qualify with relative ease while missing half their best 11.
  18. we had dustys dugout dice, they get dustys fixeroo elixir http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/22700000/This-is-piss-sweeney-todd-22705790-500-247.gif
  19. Ecuador with a 1st minute goal against Argentina. EDIT: And it's already 2-1 Argentina.
  20. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/04/07/gall.wax1.gi.jpg
  21. In more normal circumstances I would say yes, but given that our 4 starters are as interchangable as any playoff rotation I can remember, I'd stay the course and use the day to make Lester a multi-inning weapon in Game 4/5 if needed.
