  1. I mentioned this in another thread, but think Lester money, maybe a bit more. I think he gets closer to Cueto’s deal than Lester’s deal. When you account for the value of Cueto having an opt-out, they aren't terribly dissimilar.
  2. I mentioned this in another thread, but think Lester money, maybe a bit more. I don't think he'll get that high unless there's been more inflation than I am factoring in. He has more of an arm health and durability question than Lester did. For what it's worth, he definitely won't have Lester's reputation for big game pitching, either. It's 3 years later, and a weaker SP market.
  3. I mentioned this in another thread, but think Lester money, maybe a bit more.
  4. I want the Astros to win, but I have to admit both pitchers getting bombed in the first 2 innings is the funniest possible outcome
  5. I have to think Davis is an option if only because he's the most surefire FA option(along with the validation that the FO traded for him and he had a great year). The last 18 months or so have illustrated the value they place in having a lockdown closer at the end of the pen, and while there are paths to that outcome that don't include huge outlays, I don't think they're going to gamble on depth surfacing a great option. The stakes are too high for this group to leave that to chance if they can help it. They've already traded for that guy once and they could again(I mentioned Hand, but there's other options of varying quality like Robertson, Herrera, Colome, maybe Britton/Brach) so Davis isn't even the most likely option, but I have to think he's very seriously being considered.
  6. yeah, at this point I would put decent money on a FA like Cobb, a trade for a starter that doesn't have a huge salary, a decent commitment to a closer(this could be trading for Hand, signing Davis, etc), and a short term commitment to at least one other reliever. If they luck into Otani they can be more aggressive on some other fronts(closer, OF stalwart).
  7. I like Shark just fine, but I don't know if I really like him any better than several FA options that are likely to have the same/less cost.
  8. Pre-arb position players are plenty valuable relative to prospects. Different teams will have different incentives, and in the case of the Marlins they would definitely be interested in what can be presented as a here and now solution compared to a someday solution of prospects. If they're slashing 40 million off a modest payroll already, they're going to at least want to offer some fruits of that labor today, lest attendance somehow regress even further.
  9. Yes, thank you. Team options would have been normal, but 3 straight player options and those amounts for Chen are just insane.
  10. As an aside, who negotiated Chen's contract? Three consecutive player options for 10, 20, and 22 million, what in the world?
  11. The winter olympics: Races on skates/skis, curling, hockey, and 50 arbitrarily judged competitions
  12. Playing/leading one of the best MLS teams ever doesn't hurt either.
  13. Lackey would pick the costume with built in teeth
  14. So this version of the playoffs assumes the home games will all be in Texas, southern California, or Florida. It doesn't go any later in the year than the current format. It gets away with that by eliminating 2 playoff teams per conference.
  15. 1) why would the Giants consider Shark a toxic asset 2) those deals put you around 10 million from the luxury tax and still needing a SP(preferably a good one), at least one RP, and maybe a starting CF
  16. I think there were dust clouds coming off Ethier's shoulder on that throw
  17. audibly gasped at that foul ball
  18. also Seager now has enough service time that he's a free agent before game 7
  19. have to think the odds of this inning ending with Puig gunning the runner at the plate are about 90%
  20. Jansen what is your deal, you throw one pitch throw it
  21. trying to think of something in this game that would actually surprise me maybe Altuve walking off Jansen and then cutting him open to sleep in, tauntaun style
  22. [tweet]https://twitter.com/_rallycap/status/924834626236858368[/tweet]
  23. let's have some fun, warm up Giles
