  1. Please tell me this is sarcasm. Um, no. This team has underachieved all season, and by clinging to the hope that the Cubs are only 4.5 games out of the WC, we're giving up the opportunity to trade retreads like Remlinger, Blanco, Garciaparra, Walker, and Burnitz to a real contender, and rebuild our farm system. Mark it down. This team is not going to the postseason. And wishing like hell for it to happen won't make it so. Burnitz is not a retread, Walker is one of the best 2B in the league this year, and our farm system is in the elite class in the game. However, what in the world does Ken Williams have to do with that?
  2. I think they're probably right with Yount or Molitor.
  3. I'll start worrying if he starts going off about hot dogs.
  4. Neither did I until yesterday. Family went to see the arch, me and my dad stayed and got tickets on the street.
  5. Wow, that's the most flukish run I've ever seen.
  6. I'm really looking forward to seeing some goofy swings on Hill's curve from Moises.
  7. Last night when Prior threw something like 6 no hit innings? :D First inning, O_O.
  8. On that note, did he throw a curve for a strike that inning?
  9. Hill's working 90-92 with his fastball. Last night, the Busch radar gun had Prior at 93-94.
  10. What was that you were saying about days off with the heat, Jon? No left handers. Not good news.
  11. I asked this before when Soriano was brought up. Is VORP park adjusted? I find it really hard to believe that someone who can't hit better than Neifi Perez away from a hitters park rates better than the majority of major league second basemen.
  12. So the Marlins ship out Burnett, Encarnacion, and Lowell and get Holla and Mitre in return? The Twins get Lowell for free?
  13. - Juan Cruz is "dominating" AAA? HE'S TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OLD! His ERA in oakland this year? 8.49 Cruz is 26 actually, 27 in October, but he does in fact totally suck. That ERA is in 20+ games too, so it's continual total sucking. He's also incredibly ugly. FYI, Hee Seop Choi sucks too. Do you have a couple hours to kill, or do you just love arguing that much?
  14. you gotta be kidding me. I know you some of you have an allegiance to billy beane, but this is a ridiculous series of implied conclusions. - Tim Hudson's career ERA+ is 138. He is an established pitcher who supplies a lot of quality innings at the top of a big-league rotation. - Juan Cruz is "dominating" AAA? HE'S TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OLD! His ERA in oakland this year? 8.49 - Dan Meyer is either injured or just not a good pitcher: 55 IP, 67 H, 27 BB, 12 HR to date I don't see how you can suggest Beane didn't get the worst of this deal. They'd give Cruz and Meyer back for Hudson in a heartbeat...but at this point I don't think they'd get anything more than a AAA reliever for either of these guys. I never said that Beane didn't get the worst of this deal. You're the one who said they "gave him away". Cruz has always been at least league average as a starter, and is doing very well in a hitters league. Meyer is struggling at AAA, but he's still a good prospect with a great track record. It's apparent that Beane got the worst end of this deal, but since he wasn't planning on keeping Hudson, Cruz and Meyer are closer to contributing, likely will have higher ceilings, and have a better performance background than the draft picks they would have received.
  15. Can I ask your source? Not because I doubt it's accuracy, but because I have been looking for a source of such numbers. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/stats2005/
  16. Dellucci credits his improvement to laser-eye surgery that has helped with his production increase. His AVG and SLG are pretty close to career norms, but his increased walk rate(again, credited to improved vision), make him more valuable than previously.
  17. I never said to stand pat, I even said to go after Dellucci in this thread. The fact is, Walker has been more productive than Soriano this year, despite having a lower OPS. That's why his low OBP is a problem. Is your proposition a suggestion to trade for Soriano? More productive?? Are you serious?? He's played 45 less games for starters. Runs Created/G, Second Baseman with at least 225 Plate Appearances. Roberts 9.1 Kent 8.1 Utley 8.1 Kennedy 7.4 Freel 7.1 Castillo 7.1 Walker 6.4 Biggio 6.1 Giles 6.0 Durham 6.0 Ellis 6.0 Figgins 6.0 Counsell 5.9 Aurilia 5.8 Soriano 5.5 That value is park adjusted, BTW
  18. I never said to stand pat, I even said to go after Dellucci in this thread. The fact is, Walker has been more productive than Soriano this year, despite having a lower OPS. That's why his low OBP is a problem. Is your proposition a suggestion to trade for Soriano?
  19. I like Delucci, but Soriano won't play anything other than 2B. Why does that matter. He has a great slugging percentage, 17th overall. They can just go w/ Hairston and Delucci 1-2 or Delucci and Nomar 1-2. As CPatt pointed out, Soriano's road OPS is bad. Factor that with the fact that he's not a severe upgrade over Walker, and he becomes much less attractive a player to have. I'd much rather have Delucci on his own. The prospect cost would be more reasonable, too. His slugging % is 50 points better than Walker's and he's alot faster. Some of you guys overvalue the walk and undervalue the home run. Not many walks are going to push Lee, Burnitz and ARam across the plate. Most likely it just gives Neifi and Barrett the chance to strand them. Also home runs are a sure run. The Cubs would be pretty dangerous w/ three 35+ homer guys. 18 of Soriano's 24 Home Runs are at home. He's been horrible away from home this year, and he wasn't very good away from home last year. I really doubt he'd hit 35 HR as a Cub, not that any particular benchmark like 35 HR is especially important. Walker has 7 homers all year. What's he been?? I'll put more faith in the more durable guy. Got bitten too many times this year already. Walker's been very consistent home and on the road. There's no guarantee that Soriano will be better than Walker. In fact, it's probably quite likely he will be worse than Walker, and we would have to give up players to get him, likely valuable ones.
