  1. What he said. Name the last time Hendry traded the best prospect in the organization and got fleeced. (no, the Dontrelle trade does not qualify) Cruz for Pratt?
  2. Tavarez. He's like the Phantom of the Opera all over his face.
  3. I should have prefaced my "last I heard" by saying I don't hear much. This is from June when the injury first happened. ESPN Story I don't have a link, but there was a recent report that said that Dotel would be ready for ST.
  4. Should've been Fontenot, but I don't see it now with Neifi around.
  5. How old is Pierre? I thought they have done many studies on "speedster single hitters" and how their production falls after a certain age. Pierre turned 28 in August, and is a free agent after this season.
  6. I agree. I definitely think Hendry will try to pursue other options. I just think Bradley would be a perfect target and would make the perfect project to test Dusty's abilities as someone who can manage a clubhouse. IMO Bakers abilities to manage a clubhouse are to play the veterans. He can't control the players like Bonds, Kent or Bradley. Hmmn. You serious cuse? I thought Baker did a half-way decent job in SF from keeping Bonds and Kent from killing each other. Are there any other volatile personalities on the Cubs at the present time that could potentially send Bradley off ? I'm not aware of any. I think the Cubs would be a good situation for Bradley considering their star player and manager both share the same race. It would appear that it would make for a comfortable environment for him. Most of the regular Cubs appear to be either soft-spoken or good guys. Barrett, Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Ramirez, Lee, Murton, Dempster, Maddux, etc. The only person I could envision remotely having an issue with another teammate like that would be Walker. Even then I'd bet against that happening, and he's apparently likely to be dealt.
  7. Have you ever watched him play the outfield or are you just offering an uninformed opinion? According to BP, Mench was a little above average defensively last year. However, the previous 3 years(which cumulatively is a couple games more than he had this year) he was decidedly subpar defensively.
  8. I agree. Furcal wouldn't be my number one priority, but if he is Hendry's I'm glad he's being quick about it.
  9. From Foxsports.com: " Bob Howry joined the Indians' bullpen on June 29 following a slow recovery from surgery on his right elbow in 2003."
  10. Seriously, he has much more value than the Dodgers want for him.
  11. No way is he near enough an impact bat for RF. Career line: .269/.350/.426/.776 Sorry, but these numbers are worse than Burnitz career, and equal to Burnitz last year with a dozen more walks. Vance did make the disclaimer that he would have to return to his .900 OPS form.
  12. Huff: .321/.428/.749 Burnitz: .322/.435/.757 Near as I can tell, they are the same player. Burnitz is older; Huff is a whiner. My conclusion: stay away from both! Your conclusion might be right, but we are so short of outfielders I think it's worth the gamble on a Huff rebound. If he hits like he did last year we are no worse off. That's an okay mindset come January and February, but I don't think we can be settling for that type of production at the very beginning of the offseason.
  13. Cavaliers dominate Seattle tonight, 112-85. They shot 31-33 from the foul line.
  14. Walker and Dopirak for Crisp and Betancourt
  15. I thought the same thing. Seemed like they're paying him for what he hasn't done yet. While it certainly isn't unlikely he'll improve, it's probably premature to give him a big extension.
  16. Gomes please. Then you can use Murton in a Abreu deal.
  17. I'll take a wild guess that the labels idiot, stupid and moron have been used over 100 times in the this thread. There's no decorum today. Hmmmm guess it's just your typical Neifi/Dusty thread. ;) Since Neifi being signed was announced, Hendry was called an idiot, stupid, or a moron 5 times total, by a total of 4 posters. Maybe even 4 and 3 if you don't consider this: "If Neifi Perez is our starting shortstop or second basemen next year, I might just have to take a season off of watching baseball. Just, jesus, how can you be so stupid? " to be calling him stupid. Without looking it up, I would wager that there are more people are calling the signing stupid then there are calling Hendry stupid. Calling a decision stupid and calling the person that made that decision stupid are two completely different things. Exactly.
  18. I would like to go on record and say that if Furcal signs with the Cubs the ire on this board over his baseball performance will rival if not exceed that of Neifi F. Perez. I desagree with that. What aspect of his game do you think will draw the most ire? His offensive production, especially considering the amount of money he'll make.

  20. I could be wrong, but hadn't Cedeno broke into the starting lineup before his injury last year? Cedeno got consecutive starts twice last year. I don't consider that breaking into the everyday lineup.
  21. With the Trib, that should be the equivalent of you or I finding 86 cents in the couch cushion. The Trib puts up a top 5 payroll, they aren't to blame. Assuming that 40 mil is correct, that would put the payroll upwards of 110 million.
  22. Off the top of my head they're either going to have to sign those FA's for less than expected, or get some money for Abreu to be able to afford that. Those 5 are like 40 million.
  23. Yeah, too bad you couldn't be on base that often, Neifi. I like my sig better. I do too. But to be fair, you misquoted him. He didn't say he will be on base 2-3 times. He said he could be. And on certain days, that will certainly be true. I copied it directly from an article earlier. They either changed it or it's at a different link. EDIT: Fuzzy math
