  1. He didn't look too good when FSN midwest was interviewing him today either.
  2. Are you really going to nit-pick him about the team's worst pitcher? Can't we be happy that the team is off to a good start and Dusty has managed decent enough? Geez. Wuertz isn't the team's worst pitcher. In fact, if we let him pitch he may be our best or second best reliever that we have for cheap for a long time, which is part of the frustration. Secondly, for a long time now we've been going with a 12 man staff, and continually have had someone that goes extended periods of time without use, and then doesn't do well when they do pitch. Wuertz appears to be that guy this year, which really isn't deserved considering his abilities and past performance. Add in that the other pitchers in similar roles(Williamson and Howry) have a combined 6 outings in 4 days, and it illustrates that Wuertz is getting ignored. Finally, I didn't post this just to find something that was wrong with Baker to complain about. I've mentioned it in several game threads, talked about it in today's flashchat, etc. It really bugs me that we're setting up a talented reliever to fail. My purpose wasn't to try to ignore what Dusty's done well, but rather to put the topic out there since there hasn't been much discussion about it. This happened to be the first thread after the game where it was applicable.
  3. 2 more hits for Montanez, now just turn some of them into XBH's!
  4. You're matched up with another team, and you compete over the 12 categories. The numbers next to the matchup are how many categories you are winning. That's why they go up and down during the week.
  5. The second error was a bad throw, on the home plate side of first. Replay looked like Lee held the bag to make an amazing play, but they ruled he pulled. I don't remember the first error off hand.
  6. 2 triples? Crimeny.
  7. It's actually .077, not .417. i meant against ponson. either way, its not good. #-o
  8. Now was not the game to use him though. Probably, but today wasn't the only opportunity he had to use Wuertz.
  9. Cabrera will be lucky to get half that. Why? He put up big stats last year, about a notch below DLee and you think he's only worth $6 mil a year? I probably estimated high on the 12-15 mil per year but if DLee is negoitiating a contract worth 12-13 mil a year, you don't think Cabrera, who is 22 not 30, isn't worth 10 mil a year? Furcal got 13 mil from the Dodgers. Like Seth said, service time. Cabrera will only be a first year arbitration player, like Willis(who's only making 4.35M this year) was this past year. If he gets 6 million, I believe that would set the record for first year arbitration. Fair enough. Can you completely explain arbitration for me? I know a little about it but not that much. Thanks. When a player is on the 25 man roster during the season, he accrues service time. Until a player reaches 3 years of service time, the team can basically set the player's salary for him. That's why young guys all make around 300k during these years, some make more to help foster goodwill for when they hit arbitration and free agency. After a player reaches 3 years of service time, they are eligible for arbitration until they reach 6 years of service time. When this happens, if the player and team can't come to an agreement, then the two teams swap figures on what they think the player should get. If they can't come to an agreement still, then it goes before an arbitrator, who picks one figure or the other to be the player's salary. After a player reaches 6 years of service time, they are a free agent. There are a couple other things involved in the process(Super 2's for example), but that's the basic concept.

  12. I think it's been every year since 1991. Seriously though, the Reds always get off to hot starts.
  13. It's now been 8 days since Wuertz got game action.
  14. I don't think the people who posed the question are the same ones who give Corey "unlimited slack". Also, some of the reason that people would prefer Corey over Jones isn't over performance, it's about age and contract. But at the same time Jacque has had a couple good seasons in the majors while Corey had half of a good season. I understand your point but at least Jacque has proven to be a decent player. He's 30, going on 31 while Corey is 26 so I see your point on that matter as well as Jones' 3 yr contract. Here's hoping Jones turns it around. Corey had a good season in '04. .266/.320./.452 with 168 strikeouts is a good season? That's a bit generous, don't you think? He was very good the first half of 2003. I do remember a couple times in 2004 where he looked like he was putting it together, but it was always a fleeting moment and he returned to the same old Corey. A .772 OPS is pretty decent for a CF. That's the other difference between the two. Patterson when he's done well has been serviceable to good for a CF. Jones is well below average for a corner OF.

  16. Hawkins and Jones were both free agents.
  17. 2 walks in 4 games!
  18. Looks like he shaved a muppet and glued it on.
  19. rare mental mistake by Rolen, had had time to stop and plant
