He was in the top 10 in OPS last year for the NL and had a batting average almost 40 points lower than the next worst player. Any sort of good/lucky year BABIP-wise is going to put him among the best hitters in the game easily(since he's already right there).
Dunn ahead of Bay? Why? The last 2 years their production is nearly identical, Dunn is a year younger, and Dunn has shown he can put up those numbers without ridiculous BABIP numbers. Maybe Bay is an exception and will be able to consistently put up a .360 BABIP, but if he can't then his numbers are going to drop.
Wasn't that a hit and run? With our 3-4 hitters up I really don't want Pierre trying to steal 3rd. More often than not they are going to drive him in, and the risk of him getting taken off the bases isn't worth the benefit of having a sac fly opportunity.
It's a good point, we get an extra 10 wins added on in the standings when we have the all-time leader in pitching W's, so maybe we should keep him around.
Man, I want this win tonight! Give us some momentum going into the dreaded Card Series... Winning 2 out of 3 on the road is important. Especially with the Cards coming up. Hell just winning any game is important this time of the year! I'm thinking the rest of the month like this after a win tonight: 1/3 Cards 2/3 Florida 2/3 Milwaukee. For a April of 14-10 Not bad! 14-9 actually
Add Peralta to that list, and Felipe Lopez was very close. Peralta, Young, Lopez and Tejada combined don't make what Jeter makes. You can disagree if you wish, but Jeter is my choice for most overpaid player in baseball. Jeter is overpaid but he's still a valuable player, unlike Beltre, who has turned into a useless pile of puke. If you needed a big hit at the end of the game, who else on the Yankees would you want batting other than Jeter? What about in the league, with the exception of David Ortiz? Jeter ALWAYS comes through for his team. Career regular season: 314/.386/.461/.847 Career playoffs: .306/.376/.462/.838 3 year splits: Overall: .307/.377/.458/.835 Bases empty: .304/.370/.474/.844 w/ RISP: .288/.380/.405/.785 Close and Late: .249/.352/.392/.744
Then it becomes a matter of degrees. Wood's contract isn't that big a deal cause we can afford to overpay a couple guys and still be fine, Kendall's contract becomes the hands down worst because Oakland never has any money, etc.
Positional scarcity should be a factor. A SS with an .800 OPS is worth a lot more than a LF with an .800 OPS. On the other hand, how many SS make even half as much as Jeter? Tejada and maybe Furcal?
You're not ignoring. What does that make you? I didn't call anybody anything. I'm not the one who made the rules that definte one as a "prick". All I was saying is that you should be careful about playing by those rules, because it could backfire. Honestly, no one in the world believes that post was anything but a shot at Vance.
