  1. He was 6-4 with a 3.89 ERA post all star break last year. How in the world is that "really bad"? He was coming off a broken freaking elbow, and came back as good as any reasonable person could expect. That's not really bad. It's about No.3/4 starter quality. He's probably just frustrated that in addition to that, Prior had a 4.02 ERA the year before. That's cause for concern for a guy who was once one of the better pitchers in the league. Number of NL starters with an ERA below 3.89 last year: 24 That must be quite the pitching staff for it to be 3/4 starter quality.
  2. Not sure what you mean by the latter comment, NJ had the 3 seed already by virtue of winning the Atlantic. I know about NJ winning their division, it's just ridiculous that the Cavs(or any other team) are precluded from getting the 2 or 3 seed just because they have the best team in basketball. They finished with a better record, they deserve the seed. If NJ had something to play for its last week, I doubt they would've sat their starters and lost to Philly and NY to end the season. I completely agree that the seeding system needs to change, but the Mavs got screwed by it, not the Cavs. By the same token, the Cavs had nothing to play for for even longer with the gap between them and the 5 seed, but yeah, I don't get why they can't have a second place team at the 2 or 3.
  3. Please no AAAA jokes. And yes, Wilson would be a fantastic addition.
  4. If you had used stats to prove your hypothetical, it would have been even more out there. Now you're asking me to use stats to "prove" mine? Use your common sense. The Cubs are 61 years out from their last World Series. Yet you believe *THIS* ballclub, with Prior & Wood on the shelf, would have gone to the World Series last year where all others have failed? Come on. Who are you trying to kid? So your logic that it's impossible for the Cubs to make the World Series this year because they haven't done it in 61 years? I'm not sure I agree with Raw but his comparison makes sense. Your disbelief with nothing else behind it isn't exactly a valid argument.
  5. At the moment I don't have the time to go into detail, but I don't think Clemens puts the Stros over the top. The rotation after Clemens and Oswalt isn't very good, and Berkman and Ensberg are the only players that are hitting. Not to say that I think they'll finish in 4th place, but I don't think Rajah puts them head and shoulders above the pack.

  7. We have riff raff like Bynum on the 40 man, so we can afford to do so.
  8. Wilson would outproduce Walker and can play RF too. Both are FA's after the year. If you were able to guarantee that Wilson would take RF after Lee returns it would definitely be worth it straight up. That said, there's no reason in the world for the Pirates to trade for Walker, especially giving up Wilson, and especially with Castillo being hot out of the gate.
  9. The word is White Sox fans are begging for a larger fan base, they will accept you with open arms. Uncalled for.
  10. With Cedeno looking like a viable option for cheap for a while at SS, there are more efficient ways to replace Lee's production than trading for Tejada. Miggy's value is very much tied into positional scarcity, and in the context of replacing Lee it's easier to do without trading/supplanting Cedeno's production so far.
  11. Pierre Cedeno Ramirez Barrett Walker Murton Jones Hairston
  12. First line of "Don't Panic" by Coldplay Bones, sinking like stones, All that we fought for, Weird.
  13. Cuban had a hand in making and promoting the movie Godsend, which is mostly the reason I got it from the Wal-Mart $5 bin last weekend. It's a pretty crappy movie.
  14. petagine pls the same one who didn't play for 7 years, is 34, and aside from 5 at bats this season, has never put up impressive numbers? Petagine He went to Japan for those years. He's not a stud, but we could do worse for a stopgap. All depends on what it takes to get him.
  15. Players on that list who have matched Prior's '03: Santana Peavy Well, whaddaya know.....
  16. That's crazy. Did he even play baseball at Georgetown? I meant Sweeney. Too hard for me to pass up.

  18. We need to have a "Dugout" intervention for you TT.... NEVER! We may have found Soccer10k's true identity though.
  19. I can't wait for Farnsworth to blow a couple games. First off, it will probably lead SportsCenter because it's the Yankees. Second, the New York media will be all over him. Third, I can't wait for Steinbrenner to rip into him. It's only a matter of time, you know it's going to happen. that's it /breaks bad
  20. Neifi hit .371/.400/.548/.948 for us in '04(67 PA's)
  21. Haha...good one It'll be intersting to see if DLEE is out for a period of time if the Cubs try to get Choi from Boston? If I remember right didn't Choi have a good glove? No, not really. He projected to be a pretty good defender in the minors, but never really developed that part of his game. BP has him slightly above average for his career, so does PMR(2005 season).
  22. It's pretty much always a bad idea to run with Aramis.
