  1. I highly doubt there exists no evidence that supports the inference that getting a runner over to third from second with nobody out (one out after the bunt) increases a team's chance of scoring the runner that was on second. No Sully is correct. I don't know the exact numbers but the chances of scoreing with a runner on first and no outs is higher than scoreing a run with a runner on second and one out. Outs are precious and should be treated as such. That wasn't my scenario though. What about a runner on second with nobody out vs. a runner on third with one out? I don't have the numbers offhand, but I'm pretty sure the same holds true. Here's my problem with the expected runs calculations though. All the runner on second, no outs situations are going to include the runner on third, 1 out via sac bunt situations. I'd like to see what the "Runner on 2nd, 0 outs and no sac bunts afterwards" v. "runner on 3rd, 1 out" expectancy is, although I reckon it's nigh impossible to isolate.
  2. Relax, the point wasn't to insult, just to do something a little different. The point remains that it's impossible to find someone that's unquestionably clean.
  3. By year: Year Level IP 2001 NCAA 72 2002 NCAA 85 2003 NCAA 86 2003 A- 73 2003 A 7 2003 TOTAL 166 2004 A 48 2004 AA 29 2004 TOTAL 77 2005 A+ 69 2005 AA 25 2005 TOTAL 94
  4. Bob isn't very good, but sometimes he adds something interesting that we don't know about the catching position, and he's pretty easy to tune out, at least for me.
  5. Marshall's last 3 starts: 19.1 IP 3 ER 8 H 6 BB 16 K 1.39 ERA 0.72 WHIP 7.44 K/9 2.67 K/BB Thas good.
  6. I wouldn't want Jason on the Cubs...because his season will never again go unquestion. You have to constantly put up :-s about his season. I want players who unquestionably clean, not players who you have doubts about. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/cubsfan_05/headline.jpg
  7. Oops thats what I meant. The Cubs have left the least number of runners on base in baseball. can't have runners if no one gets on. Actually I thought they had a pretty high AVG w/ Runners in scoring position... can anyone verify? .299/.380/.514 for a .894 OPS, third only to the Yankees and White Sox.
  8. Did the ball ricochet off the pitcher or something? Pitcher decided Jack Wilson should throw it to first.
  9. That's a darn good point. Pena's OBP is consistently 90 - 100 points over his BA. If you could get the guy to hit just .275, he'd likely have nos as good or better than Clark's, and he's 10 yrs younger. The problem with Pena, is that the Cubs have too MANY lefty handed bats off the bench. They NEED a RH pop off the bench, hence the reason why the momentum is toward acquiring Clark, and not Pena. Clark is much better as a LH hitter though. Not really. I just look at his career numbers, and they are close. He has more pop from the left side, but he has solid pop from the right side. Clark knows that his role would be, and is willing to accept it. Carlos is still young enough to believe he can start, which he wouldn't get with the Cubs in less then 2 months. It's no question...I prefer Clark (and give up Wuertz, or some decent arm, ONE arm that's it) to Pena. His career numbers are pretty irrelevant at this stage of his career compared to the last 3 years. Last 3 years as a lefty: .255/.323/.569/.892 as a righty: .264/.334/.464/.798 He's not bad as a RH hitter, but significantly better from the left hand side.
  10. It is not a good call if Marshall goes out and gives up a run. The Cubs don't need to eat two innings here, they need to get a win. And Marshall has been pretty much cruising, there's 4 bad hitters coming up, and he's only at 75 pitches. I like the move, he's as good a bet as any to put up a good inning.

  12. You mean like last year when he was an offensive wasteland?
  13. Not in a tie game, late. Dusty has to pinch hit for Marshall. I'd rather have Marshall hit than Bynum, Neifi, or Blanco. That's murderer's row. Agreed. Especially with Dusty so concerned about overworking his pen.
  14. Shouldn't matter, the fielder has the right to be in the basepath to field the ball, and even if that happens the runner doesn't have the right to leave the basepath.
  15. Funny you should mention it, they're actually kinda similar. Hill started out with 2 good starts then got rocked in 2, Marshall the opposite.
  16. 8.5 He didn't look to 3rd at all, he watched the ball the whole time. That's not his call, it's Speier's. On a fly ball to LF? That's what he's supposed to do.
  17. on a scale of 1-10, a mole. I don't have video either
