  1. Be careful- someone might point out the starting 3B, LF, DH, one starting pitcher and the closer all spent time on the DL last season. Depth is actually a good thing, keeps teams from using injuries (especially injuries to the same player over and over again) as excuses. He said a serious injury. Crede and Podsednik were both at 130 games last year, and the worst starter on the team(including his replacement) was the only one that didn't make 30 starts(but still made 22). Thomas maybe, but he plays the easiest possible position to replace, and wasn't exactly a force himself.

  3. Because his OBP is south of .280 - speed only helps if you actually get to first. sarcasm

  5. For the love of all that is good and holy, just let Rusch have an at bat, he's just as good as Neifi.
  6. :| THE EMOTICON MAKES IT OKAY
  7. It doesn't matter ONE IOTA whether Wood wanted to be shutdown. He's as much of a competitor as anyone out there. That's why Hendry is the GM. He has to make those decisions. No player is going to want to be shutdown, it's up to management to make the tough decisions. good luck resigning a guy when you give up so easily. Those quitters in New York aren't letting Zambrano pitch anymore this year, and they're in first place! Equating not letting Wood pitch to quitting is lunacy.
  8. Welcome! Always say how many teams are in the league, it's really tough to gauge otherwise.
  9. Detroit is looking dominant, again. (against a pretty good offensive team, to boot) 'Nother finals appearance? out of the 4 times Cleveland played Detroit this season, they were only close to 100 once and that was when they scored 97. That was also the only game they were able to beat Detroit in the regular season. They lost by double digits the other 3 games. Detroit's defense is real good. No team in the East is close to them. I'll be real surprised if Cleveland takes this series to 6. It's worth pointing out that the one game they won and scored points in was the only game the Cavaliers had Hughes for. Detroit's not going to shoot 70+% from three point land all series long, I'm looking forward to see how crunch time plays out when the deficit isn't as great.
  10. Emil Brown could make a nice platoon partner for Jones.
  11. While you're looking up stats, why don't you check his OBP? OBP is about the ONLY thing right now, Giles is good for. With his OBP hovering around .400 he SHOULD have more then 17 runs (in 31 games). Now you can't fault him for ONLY scoring 17 runs, you can fault those guys hitting behind him, but the proof is in the pudding. That OBP is an empty .400. At this stage of his career, if he can't slug around .450, then Giles should be a 2 hitter in the lineup. And for slightly under $8 mill per, Giles is so overpaid. Dare I say...Giles would have a BIGGER impact with St. Louis then he would in San Diego. An empty .400? He's in an offense that has been terrible, he's the only one with an OBP over .340. And that 17 figure is second on the team to Barfield's 18. Also, Giles' 3 year splits('03-'05) for April: .221/.372/.405/.777
  12. Agreed. For example, everything Farnsworth says in this one is better than anything in today's chat.
  13. It's not close to their best work, but I liked it.
  14. Nothing, both are just under 80% capacity at home, and draw a little under 60% on the road. The Cubs blow both out of the water at 94% and 72% respectively.
  15. The White Sox outdrew the Cubs as recently as 1995. What makes you think that such a thing won't happen again? It might not happen next year, but if the Sox continue to put a winning product on the field and the Cubs continue to lose, the Sox could be the dominant team ten years from now if not five. The Sox won the World Series last year and currently have the best record in baseball, yet they can't average more than 80% capacity and have similar attendance figures as the Padres. Olney said that they were "on the verge" of that, and in reality it's going to take quite a bit of time.
  16. I think Sickels underrates how big the age difference is. 3 years, especially when the performance is similar, is a pretty massive factor.
  17. People have been banned for much less. It's pretty clear he's been trolling for quite some time about the same tired topics.
