  1. They don't really have any room to talk since they've NEVER won the WS. Can anyone actually prove the Cubs have ever won a world series? I mean...there is probably nobody alive that remembers it, and I know they didn't have video back then. :? When I was in Chicago in June at Wrigley, I sat next to a man who said he was there for the last Cubs WS game against the Tigers in 1945. That's not exactly the last time they won one, but I did think it was pretty cool. Just out of curiosity...weren't you sitting next to Fred?
  2. It'll be more Soriano-like than anything I'd suppose. I'm not so sure about that...Soriano still has a career .280 average while Dunn's career average is only .248. Harvey's OPS would probably be slightly lower than both of them because he doesn't have the kind of contact skills that Soriano has, and I don't think he'll draw as many walks as Dunn. So I guess a combo of both...Soriano's walk totals with Dunn's average, power, and K's.
  3. If I'm counting right the Hawks are now up 4-1 thanks to a Clevenger solo homer, Camp single, Matulia walk, Colvin 2RBI double, and an RBI double for Canzler.
  4. If Harvey ever makes it to the majors, I think his production will be very Dunn-like. He'll produce quite a bit and he'll probably have a pretty good OPS, but his average is going to suck.
  5. I'm off my game tonight! At least I didn't overlook Fox in my update. Who cares about Fox when you've got DOPE! I'm still waiting for the Dope Slaps but it's nice to see him making contact again.
  6. I'm hoping it's just a strained muscle from him trying to pitch like he usually does even though he doesn't quite have the stamina yet after that long break.
  7. How about trying to get Chad Spann away from them? He's only 22 playing at the hot corner in AA and putting up a .310/.374/.502/.876 line. He doesn't appear to have alot of power but he seems like a solid contract guy with decent speed. The 18 errors is a bit of a problem but I believe Moore already has more than that this year.
  8. I'd like to punch him in the babymaker. I wouldn't want my hand near it...but that's just me. I'd rather just "accidentally" push him into the Grand Canyon.
  9. Nice to see Marmol battle back with that 3-pitch K after the 4-pitch walk to Biggio. A DP ball would be really nice here, I don't want to bullpen to screw Marmol out of a nice outing.
  10. I like your willingness to think outside the box but up-the-middle defense is incredibly important to a championship team, so Zambrano playing 2nd probably isn't a good idea. He might be good for a few more runs than Neifi on offense, but Neifi is a gold-glover and probably saved the Cubs from losing 25 or 26 games last year. You're either drunk or not conveying sarcasm well. Sorry. I need to use this  more often. I laughed out loud when Neifi got thrown out stealing second by a mile --- on a one-hop throw. I can just pitcher him slidding into second holding onto his balls....... Could you let us in on how you do that exactly?
  11. That's what steroids do to you...he's afraid he's gonna lose his jewels if he takes his hands off of them.
  12. Let's go Ronny, please let Marmol get to the dish this inning.
  13. is anyone here???? lol Never even heard of it. I enjoy watching and playing sports, but reading sports-related books doesn't interest me much.
  14. Marmol's a pretty good one lol OUR PITCHERS have to do the hitting? I wouldn't mind if they pinch-hit Zambrano in for Neifi and kept him at 2nd for the rest of the game. He's tall enough that he just needs to fall on the ball in any direction to reach it and it's nothing but short throws anyway.
  15. I guess this is a true pitchers duel because they're the only ones getting anything done out there.
  16. I think you mean Walters....Gilbert is a LF and from what I can tell he hasn't thrown in a game all year. EDIT: One thing I also just noticed in the Mesa box score is that Vanderhook threw out 3-4 would-be basestealers today. It'd be nice to have a catcher with an arm like that in the system.
  17. Especially in the low minors the starter/reliever stuff really doesn't matter much since they throw so few innings at a time. I believe Pawelek has have a few relief appearances this year for example, it's all just what they want the pitcher to work on. Since Parker has been doing some starting, I think it may be that they're trying to work out some sort of mechanical issues or pitch grip/location issues ala Aardsma when he first came into our system. I'm not talking about his time in Pro ball. Even though they had 2 freshman get significant starts, Parker didn't crack the rotation at Mizzou. He wasn't amazing statistically and he doesn't have great stuff. He's organizational filler. Yeah, I tend to agree, but by those standards Jeremy Papelbon would also be organizational filler, wouldn't he? Perhaps he is. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know a lot about him. To my knowledge, he was no great shakes in college either. He is 23, way too old for the league he is currently dominating, was drafted in the 19th round (only two rounds higher than Parker) and has an increasingly famous brother. Yet, he has a bit of a buzz around him right now on this board. How much of that do you think is due to the fact that his brother is blowing up right now? I think the buzz he's making is by his performance. Anytime you're 3-0 with 2 saves in 6 games with no starts you'll get buzz. The fact that he's only allowed 4 hits and not even an unearned run in 17 IP to go along with 19/4 K/BB ratio doesn't hurt either.
  18. I believe Petrick is going today, so Happy Petrick Day to everyone...lets keep it rolling Billy!
  19. He'll get a total of $4.25 million this year, and he signed an extension in March which will pay him $5.5 million in 07 and 08.
  20. You should've included Z's steal of 2nd from the other day too but otherwise it's an awesome video.
  21. Williams did a decent job tonight, his final line was 5IP 7H 3R/2ER 3/2 K/BB 1HR 5/5 GO/FO 84 pitches/50 strikes.
  22. He hasn't been active in awhile but I wouldn't mind seeing Rick Aguilera coming back to our pen.
  23. I'm sort of hoping that we don't move Pierre but that we offer him arbitration at the end of the year and steal some else's draft pick for a change. With his hot streak lately I'll bet he'll be a Class A FA and get us a 1st or 2nd rounder.

He wasn't amazing statistically and he doesn't have great stuff. He's organizational filler. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the college game and I'm not real familiar with it; did he come to Mizzou as a starter or do all pitchers get a shot at starting? I was figuring that he's just a career reliever but I've only seen one of his outing I believe.
  25. Nice to see that they're finally mentioning the right names except Perez. If we could move them and get some decent you players in return I'd be pretty happy. There's also a blurb about the Cubs and Marlins being interested in Willy Tavarez right above that. LINK
