Agreed, I can't see the Browns granting a lateral move. What would you think of the duo Dan Roushar (NIU alum NIU/Illini coach) and Brendan Nugent (Former Bears coach) from the Saints? I don't know much about either. Seems like a package duo at NO who work together on the run game. I'd gladly take some Saints OL guys, though.

I would say Gretzky had the best career of any athlete in team sports. But Brady's is the most impressive considering football is the most team driven of the team sports and he proved last year that he's the biggest needle mover in the game's history.

IDK how the Browns just let Callahan go, but I hope they do. Also, Mike Munchak is currently unemployed, so he could be a nice fallback option if Callahan doesn't work out.

I'm actually rooting for this. We've seen MLB and NBA coaches essentially go from playing to coaching. I'd like to see how this works out in the NFL. McCown could hire coordinators that run that side of the ball. I'm sure he could probably call plays too. But I'd suspect he'd trust guys with those jobs while essentially being the QB coach and leading the team, which he has done from on the field before. It probably only happens with long-time vet QBs, maybe a LB like Ray Lewis was, an inspirational team leader type, but this would be fun to see how this works out.

Think I saw that Alan Williams, currently Indys DB coach will interview. Spent 2 years under Marinelli so knows the scheme. Brings great knowledge of the Seattle cover 3 scheme and has spent the last year under Allen in NO who's obviously done great work. Could bring a nice mix of experiences to meld into the Bears own unique style with Flus. Williams was DC for 2 years in Minnesota (under Leslie Frazier). He had a middle of the pack D his first year (14th points, 16th yards allowed) and then was dead last in D the following year. Richard would be an experienced guy they could definitely look at. Doesn't look like they are going after much experience in coordinators, which I'm guessing is because Eberflus will run that side anyway.

Have we really heard anything even about a potential DC. I thought Borgonzi might be DC, but sounds like he's going to stay an LB coach. We heard Marinelli's name, but I've read they're looking for him more as DL coach, which makes sense since he's 72. It probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme who is the DC, as Flus will call the defense so I can't imagine it will be a huge name. But it almost certainly won't be Desai, who is a 3-4 guy and Flus a 4-3.

Yeah I think playcalling is one of the more overrated aspects that fans complain about. Like I don't think Nagy's issue was play calling, it was that his philosophies sucked. It doesn't matter what plays you call if you have a crappy playbook that you stink at teaching and doesn't fit what the players are able to execute. Nobody is knocking down the door for an Anthony Lynn offense and he churned out a historic rookie season for Herbert as the playcaller. The credit is rightfully going to the guy that developed Herbert.

I've seen some arguments for the Philly guy. A lot of tape watchers saying their WR are being schemed open well and any issues are more about Hurts accuracy, but they felt he maximizes passing scheme. Yeah, I'm sure he's good at what he does. My concerns with him are more of the unknown. IDK how good he is because Philly's passing offense is a mess because of the QB and bad WR drafting. And with no playcalling, I'd rather go for a guy that has worked closely with Shanahan, McVay, LaFleur or has demonstrated QB success like Pep.

His brother, Mike, is KC's football operations guy. He's had a few GM interviews in the past I believe. So has ties to obviously both Eberflus and Poles.

I didn't know Pittsburgh had a USFL team now or ever. If they actually do play games, I may check one out just because it's football. Edit: nevermind, all games will be played in 1 location (Birmingham) but just have the historic team names.

Shane Day makes a LOT of sense. Forgot about him in my list yesterday of Shanahan tree candidates. Does have a little playcalling experience. Called games for 3 games at UConn a few years ago and it was the best 3-game offensive stretch in school history. Why did he go from 49ers QB coach to Chargers QB coach? Lateral move on the surface? Was he passed over for OC when McDaniel took the job? I'm guessing it was a McVay recommendation. Obviously Staley was McVay's DC. Day doesn't really have any ties to Chargers OC, Lombardi. But Day has worked more closely with McVay than he did with Shanahan. Day/Shanahan didn't overlap at Washington, while Day/McVay did. I think for Day being #2 offensively in LA was more beneficial than being #3 in SF.

You gotta remember the Broncos and Packers had talks last offseason. The Broncos already have a package together that the Packers would accept for Rodgers (per Ben Allbright). I think if Rodgers wanted to leave last year, he'd probably be in Denver already. I think they 100% are trying to lure Rodgers and get him to hop on the other side of that fence he was supposedly on all last offseason. I honestly think it's more likely to happen than not at this point. Green Bay just doesn't have the money. They'd have to cut several players, restructure Rodgers and Bahktiari among others, just to bring Adams back. And they still couldn't afford to replace anyone they cut and all their other WRs are FAs except Amari Rodgers, who Packers fans think should have been cut this year, the same year he was drafted.

I mean technically, it is Mike's tree. Kubiak has a kid coaching one of these teams as well. I think something on defense for the Packers? Vikings OC He has 3. Klint is Vikings OC (or was?), Klay is the one I was thinking of he's a D assistant in SF. Klein is something for Denver or Dallas.

Is experience calling plays overrated? Yes.

Eberflus was one of my top 5 in this process. I don't know a whole lot about him, but much like has been said about Poles, I think he's a guy that has a lot of support around the NFL and there's confidence that he can lead a team. Really surprised the Bears didn't go with experience at either GM/HC spot. I hope they go experience at OC.

Bears hire a guy named Matt as Head coach and a guy named Ryan as GM for the 2nd time in a row. And the GM was actually college roommates with.....MATT RYAN!

My interpretation is George has been 100% honest and transparent about this stuff. I really don't think a hot candidate would agree to a GM job if it came with the caveat that he had to hire an elder statesmen as HC. I think it's entirely possible that Poles likes Caldwell, and don't believe George is forcing him, or any other coach, on him. Yeah, especially when it sounds like he had the Vikings job on the table as well. Would have just gone where he wasn't forced on a HC, unless he really hates Kirk Cousins.....which who would blame him?

Bills clearly collapsed allowing a score in 13 seconds. There has never been a more "back and forth" game in NFL history. YOu could just as well say the Chiefs collapsed by letting the Bills score a TD in a minute. Or that the Bills "collapsed" by letting Hill score a 70 yard TD with less than 2 minutes remaining. But more to the point, I don't give a FLYING horsefeathers HOW they got to overtime. Make overtime not be a luck-sack let down. Obviously, you can't have different rules depending on how it gets to OT. Just saying that "just win the game" is more than a playground argument considering the Bills knew the likely consequences of allowing a FG in 13 seconds and losing the coin toss. If 49ers/Packers went to OT then "just win the game" would be more playground-ish. Semantics, I know.
