  1. I said at one point in this thread that this was the year to decide on Mack. The alternatives to a trade were re-structure his deal and he'd basically spend all of the remaining years of his effectiveness as a Bear or to do nothing with his 30M cap hit and then he was almost certainly going to be cut after the 2022 season because they would have paid the bulk of his guaranteed money. Either way, Mack wasn't going to count 30M against the Bears cap this year. Granted, he still counts 24M to not be on the team, but they got something out of him instead of either of the other options where he'd walk with no compensation (not in comp pick formula if cut, not cut if restructured again). I'm guessing Quinn stays unless they get a very similar deal for him. But Hicks, Trevathan and Goldman better put their houses up for sale.
  2. Hell yeah, I'd trade Quinn for sure. See if anyone wants Jackson and Foles.
  3. Yeah, Eberflus chased pass rush the entire time in Indy. Drafted 2 DEs in the 2nd round of 1st draft (2018-Tyquan Lewis, Kemoko Turay), signed Justin Houston after that, drafted another pair with the 1st 2 picks last year. I thought for sure Eberflus would take the embarrassment of riches the Bears comparatively had at DE.
  4. So, my podcast I like was still available to watch on YouTube, which is great. The problem is they added Olin Kruetz to the cast, and I don't know how much I am going to like it anymore. I liked that the podcast was run by fans of the team, who aren't stupid and meatbally. Adding an ex-player is probably going to change the dynamic too much for my liking. One episode in and there have already been several Lovie Smith mentions. I do get it for this episode though because they were talking about the similarities to that regime and the current one (Eberflus a Marinelli disciple, strength coach was on the staff for Lovie, Poles an ex Bear). But Olin also cut off the other co-hosts and did the athlete thing where he doesn't really answer the question that's asked. He also kinda made fun of the guys for being WRs and such in highschool and not having the same level of experience as he does. So I imagine he's going to interject a lot from his experience and will potentially argue that his opinion is more valid because he played at the NFL level and with this very organization. And I don't really want the player perspective, because I'm not a player. I want the fan perspective because that's the one I can relate to, and it won't be meatbally like it most likely will be coming from Olin.
  5. The Chicago Audible podcast which I listen to on YouTube pretty faithfully is a part of this group now. IDK if I'll still have free access to it, but I would kinda miss it. But in general, I'm with you. Got rid of cable probably 10 years ago and the last 6-7 years had streaming services. Started with Netflix (who keeps raising their prices), then to Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+/Insider, Discovery+, Paramount, Amazon, Peacock, HBOMax, was doing Sling for live TV and with all the services we had + internet, it was costing us more than cable. So, changed my internet provider and added regular cable and dropped most of the streaming services (even Netflix). Saving us so much money. I'd be more apt to pay $56 and be done w/ it vs. another money nickel and dime that I gotta keep track of.
  6. Matt Ryan, I believe I read, has the highest cap hit in NFL history for 2022. It's like 48.6Mil. They could cut him, but they'd only get 8M in relief (paying him 40). They could June 1 cut him which leaves them on the hook for 25M toward the cap this coming year, but saves 23M. They are over the cap as a team somehow and have some solid FAs they probably want to re-sign. They'll probably trade Ridley, cut or trade Grady Jarrett, and then if they trade/cut Ryan after June 1, they'll have a solid chunk to spend. Probably best to get out of that Ryan deal now and start the rebuild. Mitch would be a good bridge QB there. Steelers fans are also talking themselves into Trubisky as well....which I guess kinda happens when your team comes out and says Mason Rudolph is their starter.
  7. Gallup also had surgery just like a week ago. There's apparently a thought that waiting 4-6 weeks after the injury makes for better healing of the ACL.
  8. Also a very good reason to not have a 1st round pick, a QB better than any QB you could have gotten this year or by staying put last year. I do wonder who the Bears would pick if they somehow had Fields already, but also had a 1st rounder. I love the top of this draft at edge rusher (especially 4-3 DEs now that the Bears are in that front) and offensive tackle. But DE is literally the best position on the roster. OT could obviously use a top 10 pick, but would likely require moving one of last year's picks to guard or Borom to the bench. I'm guessing they'd go OT and just have an bunch of young talent there and let it sort itself out. Linderbaum would probably be worth the 7th pick at C. He's really good. Top CB with Booth and Stingley would be an option, though I don't think that position is top 10 pick important in the Eberflus defense. No 3-techs that elite. Could maybe take one of the top LBs at 7, but be a reach.
  9. It's been like 3 different coaches, completely different teams, but like clockwork they lose all February long which always include a couple blown 2nd half leads, a Wisconsin loss, and somehow always a loss to a bad Northwestern, Rutgers or Nebraska team. Thought they were going to win last night, defensively they're very good, offense is just a mess. Xavier Johnson sure, he's fearless but, he also can't shoot, his terrible shot selection is basically a turn over. When Wisconsin packed it in why couldn't Stewart or Thompson get a nice open look? You'd sure feel better about your chances with those guys shooting than Johnson trying to create or shooting a three. Russell Westbrook, in that he wants to put the team on his back but isn't capable and doesn't let that fact stop him. I don't like the makeup of a team with a star player who isn't even an option outside of the paint. Love TJD, but he doesn't elevate the team. It's not his fault, but is what it is.
  10. Oh yeah, Rutgers is legit this year. I meant in a typical year. IU will certainly lose to one of those 3 teams when they are next to last in the conference and it usually sets off a tailspin that leads to watching in March.

  12. Not playoff related, but this Carson Wentz stuff is interesting. Colts ready to move on, after giving up a 1st round pick + for him. Can't help but feeling bad for Wentz. MVP level player in his 2nd year, before ACL tear. Came back the next year and was really good, then got hurt again. His backup wins the Superbowl. He was basically back at 2019 level of play this year, putting the disasterous 2020 behind him. He's not a terrible QB, and it feels like the Colts were in denial of what he actually was to give up a 1st for him and then to be so quickly disappointed in his performance.
  13. There isn’t a list of defensive GOATS that doesn’t include LT. Reggie White was incredible but LT was on his own planet. Personally, I’d put Donald there with Reggie White, Ray Lewis and Mean Joe. I can’t speak at all to Page, Butkus, Nitchke, etc. LT, Reggie and Ray Lewis were the biggest personalities on great defenses. I am not saying they suck or arent great, but I think they all get a bit more credit because of that LT changed the 3-4 OLB position. He more or less invented the swipe at the QBs throwing arm from the blindside to create fumbles. I think LT is truly the best defensive player I've seen. Reggie was the most unstoppable force. He'd throw linemen (literally pick them up off the ground) with 1 hand. Ray Lewis probably gets more credit that he should, but he kind of willed his team to a championship and was the best at his position, which was loaded with talent, when he played.
  14. This is the worst, fun season ever.
  15. I'm worried about getting to the point of players coming back, but now with burnt out superstars (LaVine, DeRozan) and rust with the guys getting back into the swing of things. Teams around the top of the conference with the Bulls can more afford to fall to a 5 or 6 seed because they are good and playoff tested.
  16. I think Seth is a huge get for Brooklyn in this deal. Ben driving and kicking with his size advantage to KD, Mills, Harris and Curry is tough...if Harris gets healthy
  17. It's funny...we've seen 4 player acquisition periods from AKME. In 2 of them they did absolutely nothing and the other 2 they went balls to the wall lol. Very all or nothing FO. I think we're also all assuming that buyout guys will definitely come here. Players motivations for signing with teams after being waived can vary wildly. Take Tristan Thompson for example. Would be a solid candidate. But his priorities are said to be 1) Winning another championship, 2) playing in an enjoyable market before he retires. For both of those qualifications the Bulls would be like 7th in the pecking order. Our biggest advantage is we have a role and minutes to give a guy but that isn't always the biggest priority for guys who are just going to be FA in a couple months anyways. IDK, Chicago has to be top 3 in number of hoes for him to cheat on Khloe Kardashian with.
  18. Broncos have 40Mil in cap space. That's enough to sign Adams. If they trade for Rodgers, he'd almost certainly be willing to restructure to make that work. I heard a Green Bay reporter say that his expectation is that the Packers franchise Adams and then trade him and Rodgers to Denver for 3 firsts, two seconds and Jerry Jeudy I could see Denver doing it with their defense pretty good as is... Honestly, I can see both teams going for that. Denver instantly becomes a contender, though that division would be fun as hell. They have enough young talent and they should be competitive at least until they have picks again in 2-3 years. For the Packers, it allows them to rebuild their talent pretty quickly.
  19. Yeah, couldn't agree more. Some of these guys have gotten rave reviews from their former teams (WR coach, OC, QB coach). The assistant position coaches being promoted have come without much fanfare. This staff will be a test of the hiring process the organization used. And I think if they made the right choice at the top (Poles) then the rest will fall in line. I do like the fact that the offensive staff is an eclectic group. Given that they hired a defensive HC and are very Colts centric on that side of the ball, I think it's good that they aren't trying to simply replicate another team's offense. I don't know that it will work, but I do know they won't be as rigid as the last regime was of doing things a certain way. I think they will truly make this about Fields and getting input on what he likes and is good at.
  20. I don't think it is anything like Brady/Gronk. Gronk was a retired dude falling apart physically. Nobody was looking to sign him until Brady went to Tampa. Adams is the best of the best free agents. He'll go where the money goes, not where just where daddy goes. Yeah, I can't imagine Rodgers would want to go somewhere where they aren't already a playoff caliber team. Are there any playoff caliber teams that need a QB and can also afford $30m for Rodgers and $30 for Adams? The rumors I've read is that Adams wants $35m. Doubt anyone gives him that. But, if he really wants money like that, some crappy team with money to burn just might give him a ridiculous contract. Jacksonville? Broncos have 40Mil in cap space. That's enough to sign Adams. If they trade for Rodgers, he'd almost certainly be willing to restructure to make that work.
  21. They also have a guy named AJ Brown, who would have probably been top 3 in receiving yards this year if he stayed healthy. Rodgers + Henry + Adams + Brown
  22. I actually don't think he will. I think the new staff wants all the weapons it can get, and I think they keep him as a true gadget player, especially if they can't re-sign Jakeem Grant. is he even a weapon at this point? Maybe, maybe not. But only 2Mil savings if they cut him. That's not a difference making amount. Might as well see if he is healthy this summer. If not, cut him then, no harm, no foul. But he's only 27 and was a dynamic player as recently as Sept 2020.
  23. 100% what it is. Texans owner has been accused of being racist on many occasions. They obviously weren't going to hire Flores, who has too much heat surrounding him right now. But they hired a black coach so he they have a leg to stand on against racist allegations. Of course, it all makes no sense when they fired Culley after 1 year, just to hire his DC and retain Pep Hamilton as OC. They are likely bringing back most of the staff outside of the head coach.

  25. Bisacchia's ST also routinely rank in the 20s. Literally his only value was that he was a HC for half the year this year. Deciding correctly on Grant, O'Donnell, and Scales will have more of an impact on ST than the coach. I'd probably look for a new punter. O'Donnell isn't special. If he stays on cheap 1 year deals, then whatever but new blood would be nice. I'd definitely look for a new long snapper. Scales kinda sucks and had some iffy snaps last year. I'd probably keep Grant, moreso for his speed and gadget play ability than returning. Bears have no shortage of return guys (Herbert, Newsome, healthy Cohen), they don't have much speed or WR help.
