  1. Wasn't that a concern when they drafted him? I mean, it's a concern with every pitcher, especially hard-throwing ones. I don't remember hearing anything specific about his motion that was a concern, though.
  2. Well this sucks. Mule to have Tommy John. https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2023/03/21/chicago-cubs-two-way-prospect-nazier-mule-reportedly-to-have-tommy-john-surgery/
  3. I guess what it comes down to is that I really don't see any particular benefit to having Tauchman on the roster. I'd rather give the at bats to Rios, Mastro, etc. For that matter, I'd rather just commit to playing Velazquez, Morel, Davis, etc. in the field every day for a few weeks than give the time to Tauchman. The 40 man implications are just a cherry on top of the primary motivation for me.
  4. It's got to be someone and they're short on true outfielders. Given how strongly they've signaled they want Davis, Morel, and Velazquez playing every day for development, that means you're left with Tauchman, Deluzio(different profile but same complaints you're making above apply), Mastrobuoni (not much of an OF), or Hill(also not on 40 man). An NRI like Tauchman that you can easily DFA when Seiya gets back(since after that point you're likely to be willing to bring up one of the 3 prospects) seems reasonable to me, and the beat writers seem to think Tauchman has an inside track on that spot. They've got an excess of guys on the 40 man for 3B/1B/DH, though. Wisdom and/or Mancini could man RF for a few weeks without needing to drop someone from the roster to add a guy like Tauchman. The defense is likely not as good with Wisdom out there (and definitely not as good with Mancini), but they're both going to give you more offense and it allows AB's to someone like Rios who is a much more likely long-term contributor.
  5. Are we sure that Tauchman is a lock or anything close to a lock? After a strong start, he's come back to earth quite a bit this spring. His numbers aren't bad, but they're also pretty much dead on his career 580 MLB at bats. RF can be covered by a bunch of guys on the roster until Seiya comes off the IL. Leaving Tauchman off the roster would make it much easier to add one of the relievers to the 40 man to cover things there.
  6. Does that mean you're not going to bet the under on 6.5 wins after saying this: I don't generally make bets. I find precise predictions to be overrated. There's no point in trying to pinpoint exactly what happens in the future, because even if you're exactly right it's probably mostly luck. I find talking about ranges of probability to be more accurate, and therefore more interesting. I don't really want to bet either, I was primarily just highlighting the somewhat ridiculous stance you initially took.
  7. Theoretically, that gets balanced out by the running teams being better at killing clock to hold onto leads at the end of the game.
  8. Does that mean you're not going to bet the under on 6.5 wins after saying this:
  9. Slight correction - Fields' accuracy on intermediate balls is fine (middle of pack). He just hasn't been throwing them.
  10. So you would definitely take the under on a 6.5 win season right now? I sense an opportunity to win an internet bet here.
  11. Yeah, he's putting together a fantastic read overall.
  12. It's really not.
  13. You could have started that at #7. There’s plenty of same looking rankings out there of low minors Cubs if that’s what yous guys are looking for! Don't get me wrong. I actually value the different point of view. Specifically around Gallardo, your fanboyism there has made me think about how much I value durability and innings at a young age, results vs scouting info, which elements of the underlying performance matter the most, etc. While I don't agree with your take on a lot of it, I don't mind seeing the different viewpoint. I think it is some of the repetitiveness and how the opinions are expressed that puts me off sometimes (and others, I assume).
  14. You could have started that at #7.
  15. That was hardly the only mistake. Losing Schwarber for nothing was dumb. I was specifically thinking of Bryant, Rizzo, Baez & Contreras. But essentially swapping Schwarber for Joc was indeed dumb.
  16. Also, on the last set of core players...the only mistake was not moving on from some of them sooner to get more value in return. I'm quite content to not have those contracts on the books. I miss the players as a fan. But the core already wasn't working from 2019-2021.
  17. Nope. Not this year when extending these guys would remove flexibility to add players at the deadline and stay under the cap. Not worth it. 1) extending Steele would be stupid considering his age, injury history, pitcher-ness, and non-elite underlying metrics. 2) Mervis would have to hit like Goldschmidt to cost anything as an FA in six years. You have to *really* buy into the breakout to even think about it. 3) Wesneski is somewhat interesting, but he wouldn't be a FA until his 30's, does not have elite velocity, is a pitcher, and will be at min cost for the next couple years 4) I love Morel. But there's a good chance he's athletic Bote. 5) Hoerner won't even be that expensive as an FA. How many defense-first 2B can you think of that make more than $10M? Why raise your cap hit when there's no need?
  18. Feels more like a possibility each day. But my current theory is they'll throw the Kittle extension at Kmet which had a massive frontloaded signing bonus and that will more or less carry them across the finish line (along with a few small signings) Paying Cole Kmet along the lines of Kittle would be the least value focused move Poles could dream of. He's not talking about the amount, just the structure.
  19. At this point, I'm really hoping one of Levis and Richardson make it to 9. With Carter bombing his pro day, there's nobody at that point in the draft that has clear separation from the guys at 15 to me. I'd love to trade down again and pick up another second rounder.
  20. I vote for team "stuff monster"
  21. Outshot 42-29, win 6-3
  22. I haven't seen any injury reports this spring other than updates on Canario and Howard. I don't think it's possible that all the pitchers showed up healthy and ready to go. Has anyone heard any updates in this area?
