  1. gathright is pretty much worthless. yeah, i said it. worthless. pierre is a cut above him. btw, this article seems to contradict your knowledgeable assement of gathright's baseball ability. i wont bother to post the one about pierre that does the same because it has already been done in another thread. http://www.minorleaguenews.com/baseball/features/articles2004/fab50/062204.12.html That is a very big overranking of Gathright and I bet even that site won't have him anywhere near that high going into 2006.
  2. I try to avoid it too. (except when NSBB is down) I just happened to read that one thread there and someone said the same thing. But tim avoids it to such a level that he created an entire website so he didn't have to go there. Obviously Tim has more resources available to him than I do. :) The first iteration of the site cost me $100 for the year. Of course, I outgrew that location before the end of the year!
  3. The tax differences between the states will help make up a certain amount of the gap, too. Either someone has been reading cubs.com or vise versa. I avoid cubs.com like the plague. Did they say the same thing?

  5. But in your example, the mistake wouldn't be not getting Castillo. It would be trading Walker for .75 on the 1.00 and going with a MIF that includes Neifi. ....when Castillo was an option. I haven't criticized him for not getting Castillo. I have criticized him for failing to improve the team for a couple years in a row and so far not doing a thing to improve the biggest hole on the team. But would moving from Walker to Castillo actually be an improvement to the offense? I'm fully behind criticizing Hendry for not knocking the socks off Giles to get him on board. But I cannot fault him for not making the change from Walker to Castillo. In my mind, the problem here is that he's planning on getting rid of Walker in the first place.
  6. Nobody's going to do anything with Lofton until after Philly declines arbitration. Nobody wants to give up a draft pick to get him on board.
  7. Yeah, it's not that big a deal, but, if/when they trade Walker for $0.75 on the $1.00 and platoon Neifi with Cedeno, or play a MI of Cedeno and Neifi, it'll just be another in a long line of missed opportunities. Most mistakes by Cubs management can be scoffed at as no big deal, but like overpaying Neifi/Rusch/Macias/Blanco and going with backup options in all 3 OF positions, they all add up. But in your example, the mistake wouldn't be not getting Castillo. It would be trading Walker for .75 on the 1.00 and going with a MIF that includes Neifi. I'm willing to criticize Hendry, but it should be for the right things.
  8. Based on the board performance today after the latest fix, I'm confident enough that I'm doubling the # of allowable sessions per user to eliminate one problem that people have been having lately.
  9. I don't see this as a big deal. The upgrade from Walker/Cedeno to Castillo wouldn't have been worth the price we would have had to pay in prospects. Since Castillo can't really run anymore, I don't think he's as good an offensive player as Walker. And I think Cedeno can be his equal defensively and will come somewhat close on offense. Given the salary differences involved, I'd say Hendry did the smart thing in staying away.

tewtWho are you calling a tewt? Apparently...myself. :-k
  11. Hmmm.... Instead of archiving old posts, I wonder if I could use google to fully index my site and then use that as a search engine for posts with a "search this site" option.... :-k Just thinking out loud here.
  12. Not so much. Is it a situation where you may have to archive old posts? Yep, that's precisely what it is coming to. I've been working with the ISP to try and tune mysql to handle the size of that one table, but it hasn't been working very well. Obviously. Any DBA's around?
  13. Intertia isn't a force I suspect 86% of the board won't understand this at all Is that because of the spelling error? :D
  14. Premium has that feature. Probably my favorite one too. Inside of a thread? How do you use it? Just click the orange note next to the thread title. non-premium kind of has that feature, but it takes you to the most recent post at the beginning of your session. Wow....I did not know that. oh, and for those of us who wind up using both premium and non-premium with firefox (no idea if anyone but me does that): it won't work with both. while it works fine on premium, non-premium will send me to the same post every time. In the regular UI, you have to shut down and open a new browser and it will take you to the most recent post as of when you began your latest session.
  15. Sorry about the downtime lately and the rough edges today as things were getting patched. At least I have found the penultimate problem and have a patch solution in place. NSBB has grown to the point where there are close to 800,000 posts, 480,000 words used and 54,000,000 combinations of words and posts stored in the database. As new posts were added or as people were doing searches, it was completely hosing up the system. Basically, I found the limits of mysql as it is installed on my server. I have temporarily disabled the search function and edited out the portions of code that search the wordlist and matchlist when posts are entered. That should take care of the short term problem, but not the longer term issue as we can't live without a search function forever. I'm working on alternatives and hope to implement something this weekend. Once again, sorry about the inconveniences lately and thanks for your patience.

  23. I'm a huge backer of Farnsy, as I've pretty well documented over time. I think giving him a $5M / yr contract is pretty laughable, though it has nothing to do with believing him to be a "choker" or gutless, or whatever.
  24. I believe there are 5 (Tim, BigbadB, rawaction, California Raisin, and myself). And, of course, Poudre himself is a mod in this forum.
