  1. I honestly keep wondering if we're destined to deal with the Rays. Something has to give on their glut of starters. Would something like Soler, Jeimer and one of Sands/Stinnett/Kellogg be not enough for Colome and one of Odorizzi/Smyly/Andriese? I suggested Soler/Candelario/Clifton for Odorizzi and Colome a while ago. I think that's quite fair. Ken Giles alone netted Velasquez, Oberholtzer, Eshelman, Mark Appel, and Harold Arauz I think people are vastly underestimating the market for Colome.
  2. Question: Assuming it meant bringing back Dex so that Zobrist could slide back to 2nd base, how would people feel about Soler + Baez + Candelario + Cease + De La Cruz for Archer + Colome? Colome on his own would probably bring back a Ken Giles type of return. Archer will also bring back a ridiculous return. I don't think the offer I listed above would even come close to getting it done. But I don't know that I could go higher than that, either.
  3. Assuming health, the Rays will have Archer, Smyly, Cobb, Snell, Andriese, Odorizzi, and Erasmo Ramirez, with Schultz, Guerrieri, and Honeywell knocking on the door. Also Smyly did make 30 starts this year. I'd be very interested in Archer, obviously. - Cobb doesn't make sense as he'd only be here for one year. - I loved Smyly after 2015, but he has a lot of questions after this past year. If he could be had cheaply, it would be great. But nothing from Tampa ever comes cheaply. - Odorizzi would be okay, but I don't love him. So many home runs. Everyone else is either meh or still at a point where the Rays won't let them go.
  4. What makes anyone think Smyly will be reliably healthy?
  5. Could be for the visitors clubhouse? Or is that not until next offseason. i believe it's going to be among the very last things done, but maybe i'm wrong. Plus, I believe they are doing that shopping at Ikea.
  6. i want him to pitch so well next year that there's no chance in hell he signs a team-friendly extension. what I meant to imply is that unless he signs a team-friendly extension *before* the season begins, I hope they wear his arm down to a nub and then turn him loose.
  7. while I'm also guilty of discussing politics here, let's take that to the politics thread and talk about Jake the baseball player here. Frankly, as an impending FA, I'm still kind of hoping they work his arm down to a nub and then set him loose and take the compensation pick. Unless they can sign him to a team friendly extension, of course. Then be conservative with him once again.
  8. Are you saying it was just campaign bluster or that those aren't things to be concerned about? Bluster. Especially about Roe v. Wade. Good. I only have to wonder which of us is hopelessly naive rather than be appalled at your lack of concern.
  9. Is this a serious post? You're not sure how people's rights might be in danger when Trump ran on a platform that included reinstating stop and frisk in the inner cities, overturning Roe V. Wade, denying Muslims admission into the country, rolling back equal rights for LBGT, etc? Much ado about nothing. Waste your time being concerned if you want. Are you saying it was just campaign bluster or that those aren't things to be concerned about?
  10. Same. Those are three pretty good prospects, I think, pending De la Cruz's health. After that, we'll see. I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody, and I've got some in wrong order. But just a quick listing: Maybe Steele could still fit in there somewhere; maybe finesse Morrison. I guess rostered Rosario. Zastrysny Hatch Albertos Clark Paulino Hudson Kellogg Rivero Moreno Torrez Pierce Johnson Underwood Hedges Leal McNeil Is Ryan Williams dead?
  11. A couple days later, I still like my Houston trade idea. But I still want Jansen on top of that.
  12. You think it's shameful that people joke about leaving the country if a person who has literally stated he will trample civil rights gets elected president? That's really dumb of you. You should look up the definition of shame. Yes. I think it's funny that people getting involved in a democratic election can't handle that they lost fair and square, so much that they are (falsely) claiming that they are going to literally renounce their citizenship. This happens literally every election and it doesn't get less stupid over time. I feel like I should copy the post I made about my daughter's day here, but I don't want to further sully the baseball forums.
  13. Seriously. No takebacks. so 17M and the loss of a first round pick for a guy who is going to throw 65 innings. Yeah, not even remotely interested. I'd much rather the farm be used, outside of Eloy, to grab a young closer. Save the excessive spending for Otani or whoever else they need to fill the rotation in 2018. A year ago I felt the exact same way. After seeing the revolution in post-season reliever usage this year...I'm good with the investment.
  14. Seriously. No takebacks.
  15. I had some level of hope for Acevedo when we acquired him. Oh well.
  16. How the hell did we get Montgomery for Vogelbach?
  17. Is there a right time? There are different shades of wrong. Only selected times will lead to you sleeping outside naked.
  18. The game 7 thread is now closed at 108 pages, with the final post from Fred's account. As it should be. :flythew:
  19. nevermind. :(
  20. I love Dan Haren's twitter.
  21. I'd reinstate HCCF before the Bum. And I'll never reinstate HCCF.
  22. Well looks like they will offer the QO, but the perception last year was that hurt his offers. Either he improved his standing enough that the QO will be meaningless to his suitors, or there is some interest in bringing him back. Last year's OF market was way better too: Heyward, Upton, Cespedes, Gordon, even Span to go along with Fowler. This year it's Cespedes, Fowler, Desmond, and I guess Reddick. I'm guessing Houston won't offer the QO to Rasmus again, not that it matters much.
  23. btw - I have faith that the front office has a plan, but I'm thinking they must feel pretty confident about finding some competition for that 5th starter role.
  24. Wait, what? You think we turned down the 12 mill option on Hammel, to give him a 17.2 mill QO? #-o Ummmm...no. Oops.
  25. I'm pretty sure we stick Hammel with the QO. I'm not as sure about Fowler. If they had a handshake agreement not to do it this time around, I'm sure they'll honor that.
