yay for Micah! couldnt believe they started him in AA again this year. I can understand why the Cubs sent down Adam. He will be the better player of the 2, but he needs ABs to continue to develop. He wasnt getting those at Iowa, so it was wise to send him back to play every day.
Lineups: Washington Soriano, LF Byrd, CF Vidro, 2b Johnson, 1b Guillen, RF Zimmerman, 3b Gonzalez, C Jackson, SS Day, P Cubs Pierre, CF Murton RF Walker 1b Barrett C Ramirez 3b Jones RF Hairston 2b Cedeno SS Marshall P
i went with Tropicana. Can remember too many playoff games in KC, especially George Brett. I guess that makes me real old, lol cause they may never make it again. The waterfall is a unique feature of that park, and i will always remember the sloping outside hillside above the outfield walls that led to a very pretty interstate. i also disagree with the people who said Yankee Stadium was most overrated. The Valley of Heroes makes that park very special. Too many memories for all of baseball there. I think i would go with the Cell as most overrated. I would almost rather go to a cell than the Cell.
Here are the 2003-2005 numbers straight from ESPN for Badger, ranked by OPS. These are the current MLB 3B numbers. (Tongue in Cheek: We will have to leave Zimm at the top. Even though he was a rookie, his numbers have to count for the last 3 years, because they mean something)

I will find the AL numbers and put them up next. My next question, if ARamirez isnt one of the elite 3b in baseball, why are we trying to carry 2 corner OFs with low slugging %s. Again another cause of concern. Turns out ARam comes in 8th amongst 3b in OPS the last 3 years, which is the back-end of the top 25 percentile, not as high as i thought either. Something else i discovered, the AL Central 3b really really stink.
Not trying to be disengenuous here badger. When i compare ARam to Scott Rolen for instance, i dont discount Rolen's numbers or ARams. Now Rolen struggled in 1996 and only played 37 games being a rookie, but his numbers stayed in. Last year, he was hurt and had an awful season. But those numbers stayed in. Another example about the same age as ARam is Ensberg. He had bad OPS seasons in trying to find his stroke in 2000, 2002, and 2004. He has also only played one season above 145. But his lifetime OPS is still higher than ARams. You do it for ease of comparison. Now if you want to break it down for say the last 3 years, you can flip that option at ESPN on. I will go find that info and bring it over for ya, just to say i can. I also love the fact that you didnt post ARams OPS #s in 2002. That made me laugh. And quit being so snotty. I am a) not a troll, b) do not have it "in for" ARam. I am trying to have a rational discussion on his numbers. Debate is what made America great. I would expect more from your education and background, cause i have the same one.
Well Badger i am sorry. First the "arbitrary" 145 number if you do the math is exactly 89.5% or 90% rounded up. When i sign someone to a multi million, multi year deal, they sure as heck better play 90% of the time for me. That is where that number came from. Not sure what you are talking about manipulating numbers on ARam. You can find any of the splits above at Yahoo sports or ESPN if you would like to go and see for yourself. I was just saving everyone the time from having to dig them out and put them together in order so that everyone could see the trend for themselves. And i will make sure i send in a request to Baseball Almanac on your behalf to delete any baseball records for when people didnt start a game or werent a full time starter. I dont know what i was thinking when i included his whole entire career stats. Must not have been aware that some stats are good and some are bad and you only get to count the ones that are good. But i will make sure they are aware of it.
Dont look now, but his numbers are just obscene this year. Last year is a distant memory. If he keeps this up, he may live through the Big Apple experience in one piece. 9 HRs 23 RBIs .263/.405/.596/1.001 with 25 BBs and 5 SBs in 99 ABs. 24 runs in 27 games just by himself. And a 9.07 RC27. Wow. 1 error and 2 assists in 224 innings in the field. Ya, i am soooo happy Hendry didnt get him. :x
Read the Springer article over at ESPN. ESPN Barry apparently hit a HR off of him in 2001. So the next 3 times that he has faced him? Yep, plunk city. Guess dude knows how to carry a grudge. I dont think he was in for the shenanigans tonight. He has left the team to be with his wife who is undergoing a medical procedure in Louisiana tomorrow. But it was great. Hack a Shaq, baseball style. I say everyone just drill him as often as you can. Eventually the punk will get the idea and retire. The way he treated that Gulf veteran the other night was the very last straw for me. This gibroni needs to have some sense knocked into his thick skull. I look forward to bean balls flying for us on Thursday and this weekend. Good times. We need a good brawl or 2.
and yet again we disagree. I applaud Springer for his effort. Not really sure if it was intentional or he was just wild like usual, but he was definitely throwing inside to Barry. If Barry doesnt like it, i am sure he can arrange for more body armor and complain about getting pitched inside. The Giants have already said they will retaliate tomorrow nite, so it should be fun in the umps pre-game meeting with both clubs. It is Matty Mo, pitching for the Giants tomorrow nite. So you know it is going to get dirty. See Also Vizquel-Mesa. Matty Mo was the plunker in that case.
Glendon Rusch Jerome Williams Angel Guzman Rich Hill Carlos Zambrano (only the beginning of the year) Cub Starters are 9-16 with a stellar 5.19 ERA this season. Good for 3rd worst in the NL and 24th in the MLB. But in fairness to Hendry, he didnt think Prior was going to be gone for this long into the season. The whole Rusch thing was an unmitigated disaster though and he does deserve to be punished for that. Cub bullpen is 15th in MLB and 8th in the NL with a 6-6 4.26 ERA.
i msut have missed the 2004 in season stuff. will have to go back and get that. But Rey Rey was .246/.289, but for the 2 months with the Cubs, .164/.190. Youch!
i wanted to see who he was targeting to fill holes. Hendry looks like he will trade for starters, but wants to use FA for bench people. The exceptions to that were Walker, Jones, and Burnitz. And it is our bench that is really really killing us this year. Lee trade from Marlins Walker FA Cedeno Minors Ramirez trade from Pirates Barrrett trade from Oakland Murton trade from Red Sox Pierre trade from Marlins Jones FA
Jim took office right around July 4th of 2002. I have put together a list of the players he has signed from then to now. See if you can spot a trend. I will reward the winner with a cookie. And i apologize if i forgot anyone, i almost didnt get Neifi.
Troy O'Leary .274/.332
Ramon Martinez .269/.329
Tom Goodwin .268/.332
Lenny Harris .269/.318
Trinidad Hubbard .257/.333
Mark Grudz .287/.330
THolla .275/.332
TWalk .290/.348
Calvin Murray .231/.315
Henry Blanco .219/.288
Jeremy Burnitz .255/.348
DJackson .245/.325
Neifury .270/.301
John Mabry .268/.324
Jacque Jones .279/.326
Now just adding those up and dividing those avgs i get .264/.325. Sure i know that isnt the right way to calculate it, but it is a lot of work to make this simple point. Sure FA shouldnt be used to make a team (unless you are the Yankees), but you have to fill any holes with people who can do the job. Given the fact that the League OBP % for the last 4 years have been 330, 333, 332, 331, i think Hendry is just trying to skate by with average to below average and hope he picks a diamond in the rough. But the sad fact is our bench stinks. The injuries highlight this fact, and it is little wonder why we are at 3.53 on the RC27 which is even .40 behind the lowly Pirates. Winning needs to start at the top. Why not go after someone like a Catalanatto for a change? .297/.359
