  1. I'm pretty sure I said Strop's stuff was the best in the pen, even tho numbers say otherwise? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. My point was that in order to get a starter like Ross or Cashner, you're going to have to take Kimbrel. Kimbrel's getting the job done now, but he's lost a step - read a scouting report - actually not just one, read several. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. This should set up a trade for Kimbrel and one of: Ross, Kennedy, Cashner. Coupling Kimbrel with them is more appealing for Padres due his 10mil+/year salary and works out well Cubs too. Kimbrel scares me through 2017 however with his stuff not being as missed this year. People have hit him a lot harder this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Wait, just the other day I had 3 guys defending Motte telling me how good he is, how good he's been since May, and how he throws "so hard" and has regained his closer stuff.. Now he's the guy in the question.. Stop looking at numbers, start looking at stuff. Do they get hit hard? What's the batting average on balls in play? Do hitters look lost against him or is he having a lot of balls hit right at people? I'm not trying to be a jackass, I just feel like way too many people see numbers and not real stuff. Strop's "stuff" is probably the best in the pen, but you know what's funny? Most fans right now would say he's the worst pitcher in the pen. Rondon's stuff is above-average, but not amazing. Motte throws a good fastball, and that's it. Anyone in baseball can hit a fastball. Grimm's stuff is slightly above average. Soriano's stuff, he has nothing - he was signed on reputation alone. Ramirez hasn't been the guy he was last year and watch video to compare - his fastball is flat and his command is off. He has good stuff, but it hasn't been there this year. 5. Name one good reliever in the Cubs pen that is proven. K. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I'm seriously just laughing in my seat right now because the Cubs won - that makes me happy, and they won in a game that showed how bad their pen really is, forcing them to have to make a move or two to improve the pen. All the homers on here who ripped on me for dogging the Cubs pen the last 6 weeks before they imploded - you're forgiven. I accept your apology. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. People who blame Maddon for "misusing" the pen or putting Ross in with a 3 run lead are disregarded in my eyes. You want Grimm in? Look at what Grimm did in Cincinatti - Blew the game. Front office signed Soriano to help with late innings - he's a major league pitcher, if he can't get guys out, the Cubs shouldn't have signed him. Don't blame Maddon for having no choice but to use the pieces he's given. They are just really bad pieces. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. We do have a couple amazing wins against the Rockies in the last 10-12 years. 08 and then when Ricky Gutierez scored the winning run in that rundown with Girardi in the early 2000's.. That was my favorite Cub win of all time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Pulling Schwarber for Ross with a 3 run lead was not a bad move whatsoever. When you're leading, defense is more important than offense. I will hate when hate is due, but that wasn't a bad move. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. You can't blame Maddon for the bullpen. He's used them the same the last two months. It's been a matter of time before Motte imploded. Rondon has been better but there's a reason he's not the closer now: streaky. Strop's stuff is ok, but he's getting hit hard of late. Fact is, there's no one dependable. It's a HUGE weakness and people cling to numbers. Look at the numbers in high leverage situations - Strop, Motte and Rondon are so flipping bad. It's time to either tear down or make improvements. Improvements don't involve playing musical chairs with the relievers because they realize one person can't close because with what we have now: the next guy can't either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I've been calling this for months and got ridiculed for it. We don't have shutdown guys in our pen. Streaky is the word to describe them and having a streaky bullpen is a whole lot worse than a streaky lineup. All the geniuses would say "look at the numbers, they are good"... I say "look at their stuff, they aren't good." They aren't good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Where are all the infamous "our bullpen is good" enthusiasts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Hey Soler, run, don't jog after the ball anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. The Cubs youth is showing through A LOT of late. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. The hitting just needs to develop. It might not be this year, but regardless we knew that going into the season and we knew there would be growing pains. The pitching is where the Cubs haven't really invested. Where would you even upgrade on the Cubs offense? My best answer would be left field, but Coghlan has been one of the Cubs best on-base guys. Soler has been better since coming back. Unless you're talking about upgrading at shortstop, I'm not certain what improvements are even possible outside of possibly LF. You've gotta remember - the Cubs two most reliable hitters have been in a funk the last 20 games or so - that makes a big difference but you know those two will come around......and we can hope Castro does, but that one isn't as much of a certainty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Point being we have no one that is proven out there. If Motte is as close to proven as we have, we are in trouble, because we didn't even know if he would make the bullpen out of spring training. Great for him putting together a solid last 2 1/2 months, but as we've seen Rondon, Strop, and Motte all struggle this year - who is proven? How much has Chapman struggled this year? Rosenthal? Storen? Betances? Their stuff is that good that it is so extremely rare to have a series of bad outings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. So who is our shutdown guy? Who do we feel confident pitching the 9th inning in a 1 run game in that wild card game? Can you honestly say if Motte went out there, you'd say you feel good about it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I swear I'm like the only person on this forum that sees how not dominant the Cubs bullpen is. What pitcher in the pen comes in the game and you say "boom, game over." Because look at the Cardinals. I say that when Rosenthal comes in. Look at the Dodgers, I say that when Jansen comes in. Look at the Yankees, I say that when Betances or Miller come in, look at the Nationals, I say that when Storen comes in. We need shutdown guys, not guys who allow leadoff doubles and then pitching around them a lot of the time. We need a closer who surprises the crap out of us when he blows a save. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. TruffleShuffle - you are exactly what makes me laugh in this forum. Look beyond ERA. Look at numbers in high pressure/leverage situations, the Cubs bullpen is among the worst in the MLB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. That's like giving the bullpen credit for a team scoring 6 runs against Kershaw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. They were winning 3-2 in the 9th inning.. You're right, it's the offense's fault they blew the lead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. If the Cubs sit still at the deadline, they will fade these next two months. Their bullpen is garbage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. With the lead, you have to keep your defensive guys in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Castro, Ross, Herrera.. That's our plan of attack against their closer. A combined slugging percentage of -.300 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
