  1. Interesting thought: what about James Shields? Padres are crumbling right before our eyes after making some terrible offseason moves.. I doubt they'd want much to move him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Doesn't it seem fitting that the Cubs won the first 2 games in games that the matchups were largely not in their favor and they'll probably lose tonight's game that when you look at the matchup you say "the Cubs have a pretty good chance to win that one." That's baseball for ya! However, if the Cubs can manage to pull off a 4 game sweep - that would be HUGE. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. I hadn't realized how poor Almora was playing in the minors. Yikes. I take back my hope for him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Castro

10 years ago before the heavy sabermetric movement, a majority of the GMs would look past the stats the even us as fans can dissect easily now. All fans used to focus on was AVG, HR, RBI and maybe OBP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Castro

Uh, my point was if he was putting up those numbers CONSISTENTLY it wouldn't be that big of a deal but he's very inconsistent. The fact that he's a heavy singles hitter and the fact that hurts his value. For the record, the way Castro has been swinging these last few games, he looks like he's making better contact and not trying to be a player he's not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. I know the Bucholz idea is out of left field and might not even be a possibility but I do like guys like that - sometimes when they are playing so inconsistently all they need is a change of scenery and that motivates them and sparks that fire they need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Castro

I did the numbers myself a couple weeks ago - at one point for the season - Castro had 53 hits and I believe 44 of them were singles. Couple that with minimal walk rate.. His average might look OK at the end of the season, but he really struggles driving the ball to the gaps. Lots of seeing eye singles. If his OBP was .340-.350, it'd be whatever, but that is unheard of for Mr. Castro Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Just moved in last weekend.. Loving it. Lake on one side, city on the other.. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/22/0e614055d7fbe084e7994ceddee70e5f.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Yea weather doesn't look bad at all. Might have one more cell coming through but it doesn't look too damaging. I'm looking over on the lake right now and people are out there so it must not be too bad! Normally I'd hate the Wada/Kershaw matchup but if we can find a silver lining - Dodgers played a west coast 7 PM game last night, probably didn't get into Chicago until the early morning hours.. So maybe lack of rest/jet lag is on our side? We can hope. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I loved the Rondell White trade at the time.....and then he pulled, strained and tore every muscle imaginable. Oh steroids :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I wish Rondon could locate his pitches. Control isn't a huge concern but command is. If Rondon could figure his [expletive] out and Strop can develop into his potential.. Ramirez, Rondon, Strop would be nasty 7,8,9 with Grimm being the stand-in for any of them. If I had to pick a closer on the current roster, I'd have to go with Strop. He seems to fit the role best. 17. That's like saying since Melky Cabrera went 5 for 5 today, we can ignore how bad he's been all year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. There still isn't a guy in that pen that Maddon can give the ball to and I can say "yup, it's gonna be a shutdown inning." Grimm is the closest to it. I used to think it was Strop but he's been so up and down. He reminded me of the good Marmol days. I loved what we saw from Ramirez last year especially the first 3/4 of the year, but coming off injury he's far from a sure thing. All the other guys you mentioned are also far from sure things and when they come up, we won't be able to afford to just throw them in tough spots - not to mention change their roles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Almora is the guy the Cubs see in center for the future and they love his glove. If the Cubs are going to trade a prospect, I have to imagine Almora's name has to come up a lot. They are shying away from trading their big time prospects and while Almora is good, he doesn't project to be the hitters that Bryant, Schwarber, Russell, and Baez do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I know Ramirez is coming back, Soriano is working to be MLB ready, but I'd like to still see 1-2 bullpen arms added. I'd rather be over prepared there than anywhere else. One arm would make us really good at full strength, 2 arms added would make us ridiculous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Let's bring back Joe Carter for TV. Much like being a baseball player doesn't necessarily make you a good coach - the same can be said for broadcasting. Dave Otto is OK - not great, but has decent insight. Hollandsworth is ok when he's not studdering. Dan Plesac was solid - bummed we lost him to MLB Network. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Was it Ed Lynch or Andy MacPhail? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I wouldn't mind if Edwin Jackson started one of the doubleheader games against the Cards in a couple weeks or if something comes up - even sooner. He's been pitching pretty well of late and could be a weapon in the 2nd half if he can find himself. It'd be one thing if his velocity was down or was prone to injury but the guy has just been flat out bad with the Cubs. Might be worth one last try. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Pirates and Cards both losing.. Good day to pull a bit closer to both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. They've had 12 seasons dating back to 1997 where they've won 86+ games. I'd say that's pretty solid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
