  1. I want a rotation with five guys with reasonable expectations of FIPs below 4 I just don't like him very much. Edwin Jackson or McCarthy, please. I'd love Edwin Jackson. Garza/Samardzija/Jackson/Feldman/Baker is solid, and as Vanilla said above, even if we trade a couple the rotation could add Wood/Vizcaino and would still remain pretty good. This would be infinitely better than last year watching Rusin, Germano and Raley get shelled. ETA: Also a big fan of McCarthy but Jackson is more durable and that is very important.
  2. Well Cubs' brass doesn't do our prospect rankings. We can disagree with them. Not saying we should, but I don't think it's crazy to think Appel over either Almora or Soler.
  3. I wouldn't mind that. Where would you slot Appel into our current top 10? 2 or 3? Can't imagine he would be lower than 4th. Alright well I can imagine it if someone really loved Vizcaino, but my guess is he would be top 3.
  4. Injury risk being considered, I would think Almora wins easily. If we assume that Vizcaino comes back as the pitcher he was and the injuries are behind him then I would put him ahead of Almora. Arodys has dominant ace potential if he's healthy and sticks in the rotation. I historically lean towards potential upside, so I am going with Vizcaino. ETA: Almora has a high ceiling as well, I just think a dominant starter is more valuable than an All-Star CF (I guess that depends, but I think that's at least true in the playoffs). At the same time, depending on how you look at prospect lists, Almora could be our #1 prospect. I like Almora, and depending on how this year goes for him I could end up loving him.
  5. Agreed. What is he going for? One shot to win it all? ETA: not that I have a problem with building from the farm. I like the general direction we are heading with Theo. Yes it's frustrating having to wait multiple seasons for it to come together, but if it pays off then it was worth it. I don't get it from his point of view though if he's ditching after 5 years. I agree it's probably just speculation and shouldn't be read into too much, but it still makes me a little worried. TR seems to really love Theo. I would be surprised if he didn't want Theo back after the contract unless some sort of worst case scenario becomes a reality.
  6. On my phone so I'm not sure if anyone posted this before, but reading at PSD has left me feeling a bit unsettled in regards to Theo. Then a poster (actually I think it was Kyle) said that reading that made him feel as if Theo is planning on ditching after the contract, and not stick around for the "10-year plan" Both quotes are from ABTY7. Sorry again if that's been discussed. It worries me though. Why is he thinking about going back to Boston? Why is he deciding not to stick around here?
  7. LOL @ Ben Cherington. Glad we weren't stuck with him. ETA: I'm sure Kyle will say Theo is just as bad though.
  8. I think that person is wrong. Guess so. I was just repeating what I saw.
  9. Someone on PSD said that it was a typo. It's 3 years $30 million, not $38 million.
  10. I would be disappointed, but he really looked close to worthless last week anyway.
  11. That's what we thought last year about Joe Mather. All it takes is two hot weeks in March and you're stuck with the guy all season. Then let's hope that's not the case here.
  12. I've liked what I've seen of Jeffery while he's been on the field. Forgot about Alshon. Yeah, he could end up being really good. So 2 wins, rest bleh. Shea doesn't stink, but he does as our 1st round pick.
  13. Emery did well with getting Marshall. Everything else he's done has kind of sucked. That's a huge win (BM), but way too much suck.
  14. Which user? lol Also, ABTY7 thinks Cubs are interested in Dave Murphy It says right there - Ty (ABTY7) Uh... I see "(TY, 12/4)" Right. TY is the source (short for ABTY7), 12/4 is the date...
  15. Which user? lol Also, ABTY7 thinks Cubs are interested in Dave Murphy It says right there - Ty (ABTY7)
  16. I went with Soler for the upside and the fact that Almora only drew 2 walks all year. I could make a case for either, but Soler is my choice for now.
  17. Bourn would not be one of the trade chips. If they sign him, he's likely a long term asset.
  18. Just to plays devil's advocate, some will say this is just this offseason's version of being in on Pujols/Darvish in order to keep up the appearance that we aren't throwing away seasons. I don't feel that way, I think they are legitimately interested and to me that's a pretty exciting thing to consider. A Cubs team with at least a chance to compete in the next couple years is exciting because I have set myself up with the lowest possible expectations to prevent disappointment. We will find out soon, hopefully. They really need some impact moves before the end of the offseason.
  19. Javier Baez
  20. If we're assuming Clemons' first year on the juice was 1997 and Bonds' was 2000, then I'm not sure i agree with his premise in Clemons' case. That would have been a pretty Albert Belle-like peak and flame out. But regardless, there's a major flaw in his reasoning - There's no proof whatsoever that Sosa was on roids from 1998 to 2001. There's also no proof whatsoever that Bonds wasn't on roids prior to 2000. It's all guess work. @ the Clemens stuf....what in the world? He won an MVP, 3 Cy Youngs, had 2590 Ks, 100 CG, 38 Shut outs, through age 33. Six 8-win seasons, eight 6-win seasons, plus another 5 win and 4+ win season (from 84-96). Pretty much a no doubt HOFer. ETA: How does someone flame out when their last season over the sample you are looking at had a 7.6 WAR (1996).
  21. Latest in a long line of meathead ex-players who don't belong in the HOF who piss and moan until they're let in. Leave Santo out of this. Wow...Santo had 4 seasons of 8.5 WAR or higher...with 3 of them being above 9.1, and one of them being 10.2. 9 seasons over 5 WAR. 8 seasons over 6 WAR. Career 79.3 WAR... Santo is an overwhelming Hall of Famer. It's pathetic it took so long for him to get in. 8th highest career WAR for a 3rd basemen ever. Only Alex Rodriguez and Mike Schmidt had equally or more impressive top 3 WAR seasons. If Santo doesn't have his career cut short by health, he easily could have gone up to at least 4th best ever for a 3B. Terrible comparison.
  22. Can you imagine the reaction we could get if you ever made a post worth reading?
